What was ESSENTIAL Post-op - Comfort and Food wise
carmen74 replied to pmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as food goes it all depends on what your doctor allows you to have...for the 1st week my doctor put me on Clear liquids, ex. Water, crystal light, sf Jello, ff broth, and a mandatory 1/2 bottle of Isopure Protein water/drink daily Comfort wise: For sleeping, if you can try sleeping in a recliner, I've been propping myself up in bed and getting out of bed is a little painful. It feels like I've done about a billion & 2 crunches! One thing that I saw a lot of people recommend that I didn't do but wish I had was get slip on shoes! Good Luck!! :wink2: -
I was allowed 5 shakes & 2 bars a day, I'll be honest and say that most days I didn't get in the 5 shakes. I didn't work out. I lost 14 lbs in 12 days. Oh...and on the #2 end (lol) I was the complete opposite of Btrieger! :wink2:

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
carmen74 replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I became a resident of Bandville yesterday, 2-23-2010! I was scheduled for 730am, so we got to the hospital for 6am. I was in the preop area for a bit, nurses & doctors kept coming in & asking the same questions (name DOB what I was there for etc etc) I had been sick with a cold & cough for 2 weeks so the anesthesiologist quizzed me for awhile about that but he gave me the green light! The bariatric PA Becky was awesome, so down to earth & straighforward. I wish she was in my surgeons office so she could do my fills! They brought me into the OR everyone was nice, chatting with me etc. They gave me some happy juice then some happy gas and it was lights out! Next thing I know the recovery room nurses were telling me it was time to wake up! I was very hoarse all day yesterday from the breathing tube. By 1130 they still didn't bring me to my room, my bf asked why and they said because of my (mild) sleep apnea I had to stay in recovery for FOUR hours. Which nobody had told me about, I was kinda upset about that but it wasn't that big of a deal. I finally got to my room about 1pm, to find out I was sharing a room with an 85 year old heart patient who had no idea where she was. I was lead to believe that there was a seperate bariatric ward, another thing to be upset about. The nurses were nice, but my roommate had an alarm on her bed that went off everytime she got up. So last night consisted of it going off every hour. I felt bad for the woman, but I was so frustrated about not being able to sleep. The nurses were going to move me but no beds were open. My pain is very minimal, after the recovery room I declined any more pain meds until late last night and then it was because I was hoping they would knock me out! I have very little gas pain in my shoulder, last night it was mostly in my chest. Today I took liquid Tylenol a few times and that seems to help with the pain I'm feeling which feels mostly muscular near the port. All in all I feel pretty good! Oh just some things that I didn't do that I wish I had done: definitely slide on shoes for the ride home! if you can I suggest sleeping in a recliner, today getting in & out of bed is a chore! Sorry this is so long!! -
Last time to post in pre op section!
carmen74 replied to beedo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine done yesterday...my pain is minimal. Mostly muscular on my right side and where the port is. I have very little gas pain. I haven't taken the liquid pain med they gave me, liquid Tylenol seems to work fine. -
2 days before surgery and having diarrhea?
carmen74 replied to Payne0707's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yeahhhh....I've been on a liquid diet for 2 weeks now and it's been nothing but diarrhea. Bleh. PLUS I was on some monster antibiotics last week (to get rid of my cold/cough!) and that was NOT fun. BUT 14 lbs in 2 weeks? I'll deal with the diarrhea!! Just think...liquid in means liquid out LOL :frown: -
Good luck to all the people being banded this last week of February!!!! I look forward to hearing everyone's stories!!
-
By Tuesday?!?! I've been coughing for over a week & antibiotics & Robitussin aren't making it go away!! The surgeon said it shouldn't effect the surgery but that it will be up to the anesthesiologist on the day of surgery (TUESDAY!) So does anyone have any home remedies to get rid of it?? Thanks!

Pre-op diet question...
carmen74 replied to Jenpen32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is 12 days of Optifast (5 shakes & 2 bars a day) then the 2 days before surgery is nothing but clear liquids. Yeah it sucks, but seeing the scale move is worth it. The weakness & sluggishness goes away. It's definitely worth it, just one step to get what you want!! -
I got laid off in November, 5 months into my planning for the surgery. I took the COBRA, and my surgery is in 6 days!! It is the exact same coverage that you had, just you are paying the whole thing instead of your company picking up whatever percentage they were. The subsidy is still in effect right? That was definitley the saving grace for me!

whoo hooo!!

Good luck Reshee!! Keep us posted!!

2 week pre op diet - I'm starving!
carmen74 replied to dnunzo51's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear ya, I'm on my 8th day and it's been very difficult!! But I too am down 9 lbs so that makes it a little better! :-) For Daytona I was around the best tacos in the world and resisted, I "cheated" with some lettuce lol Broth definitley has been my saving grace, I was dying for something that wasn't sweet! The 2 main things that keep me from cheating is 1) that it just the 1st step in my journey to not being fat :-) 2) i do NOT want to be one of those people who wake up in recovery without the band because my liver was too fatty -
I'm following you now :-) I'm with the band...

Anyone just starting???? - I'm in Feb 2010
carmen74 replied to CSinTX's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Most pre-op bandsters are in the "Pre-Op" forum all the way at the top :-) There are specific monthly threads, but I think they only go to March right now. I'm getting banded on 2-23-10!! My insurance required a 6 month "medically supervised weight loss attempt" basically I visiited my PCP every month, got weighed, and we talked about food & diet. -
Negative Reactions...from other WLS patients???
carmen74 replied to ChicagoWinter's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
my bf had the bypass done a few years ago and when i talk about the band he just brushes me off...with his surgery he didn't have to do ANYTHING i had to. he went to a seminar, found a surgeon, scheduled the surgery, the night before a Fleet "flush", and the morning of he had bloodwork done. THAT'S IT. when i talk about all the stuff i had/have to do he says that my doctor must be "scamming" me because it is "ridiculous" that i have to do all that "stuff" lol i guess that is why he's gained back 75lbs, because he didn't do that "stuff"!! -
Worried Im to big for airline seat? Please help!
carmen74 replied to ChantayMarie71's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm 5'8" and 289 and a size 26/28, I flew on Southwest not that long ago and definitely needed the extender & to lift the arm rest. The flight out was fine because it was only 1/2 full and the seat next to me was empty. But the return was packed, I was seated next to a guy in a suit, I squeezed in without lifting the arm, but it raised on it's own a little bit due to my chunk underneath it. The guy made a big show of requesting to move to the only other empty seat on the plane. And the flight attendant on that flight made another big show of giving me the extender, the first flight was fine. I would definitely sit near the window with the child in the seat next to you. There shouldn't be a problem that way. Google Kevin Smith & Southwest, he got kicked off a flight just a few days ago apparently because of his weight. -
bleh that stinks!! hopefully you get a new date soon!

For Valentine's day in addition to flowers your BF gives you: 6 boxes of SF Jello cans of vegetable broth boxes of chicken and beef broth LOL

Feb 25th! pre-op diet questions...
carmen74 replied to harliquinn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my diet is 5 Optifast shakes & 2 Optifast bars a day and yes I am allowed SF Jello along with SF popsicles (no fruit chunks) and FF broth -
What kind of help do you need? I started mine on Tuesday...yeah it's rough but I look at it as a means to an end! :-) I'm on 5 shakes & 2 bars a day, I must admit I am having a little trouble getting them all down! I had some chicken broth today, so nice to have something not sweet!! (I am a savory craver not into sweets!) My scale finally moved today so that made me feel better!
