So I got my first fill!!!
destin2fly19 replied to soocalchic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats SoCal! I'm glad everything is working out. Have you lost 80 lbs. in a month? It seems pretty impossible, but that's what your ticker says, so I thought I'd ask. I got my first fill this past week too (the 22nd). I was ready for it. I've had one stuck incident since and that was due to not paying attention and distractions while eating. I swallowed peas whole. I was upset that it happened at first, but now I'm glad. I regurgitated it up and learned a lesson. PAY ATTENTION! I had my surgery 11/25 in La Jolla and was starting to feel like my old self again. I didn't want to feel like my old self and never want to again, so I was ready for my fill. I'm ready to spark my weight loss again and continue on this journey. Before my fill I was almost able to eat like I could pre-op. Not good. I have 3 cc's in my 10 cc band and I'm already looking forward a month to my next fill. -
I posted this question in the General Forum, but discovered that it might be more appropriate here. How do you do it? I'm worried that after I get the band it's going to be hard for me to get enough Water during/after exercise and I'm afraid of dehydrating myself (which I am prone to). I generally guzzle a bottle of water following a workout, but have heard that that won't be possible with the band. I'll have to try to take sips during my work out. The thing is, I'm planning on training for the Rock n' Roll Marathon which will happen in June in San Diego, CA. Do you think I'll be able to keep myself hydrated enough to run 27 miles? Help please... Thanks in advance!

PLEaSE SOMEONE TELL ME ??????
destin2fly19 replied to NouraShuman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There is a chance that you are going to have loose skin and that is something that a lot of people that get to their goal weight after being obese, have to face. There is a plastic surgery section on this site where such issues are disscused. My thing is don't let the possibility of loose skin keep you from getting banded. This is not like gastric bypass, so you won't lose the weight so fast that your skin can't keep up (odds are). I'm sure I'm going to have droopy breasts, saggy arms, and loose skin around my tummy and I'm 25 years old, but the goal is to get thin and healthy. If you lose weight with or without the band, loose skin is possible. *Make sure to include exercise as a part of your life because it will help to keep the skin taught. Also, stay hydrated. -
Whoa! You are able to have bread already! I'm not allowed to have bread or Pasta until six weeks out or later. I'll barely be on solid foods by week three. I'm glad it went down ok. By the way, the sandwich and chips may sound bad because you will eat less once you're at your sweet spot, but a 6" Subway sandwich (which I'm guessing you had) is not bad if you chose a low calorie option. I lost quite of bit of weight a while before surgery by exercising and eating the low cal sub sandwiches. Don't be yourself up over this misstep. I'd stay away from the chips though. :wink2:

Will I ever eat like a normal person?
destin2fly19 replied to dragonflylover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Excited - Who is your surgeon? I also live in SD and was banded by Dr. Bhoyrul in La Jolla. I saw him and my nutritionist today and was told that I could start mushies and I was banded 11/25. I'll only have to do mushies through the weekend and can start soft foods, like fish, on Monday. I would definitely double check if I were you, but of course your doctor's orders are what's best for you. -
November 09 Knockouts! Check in here POST surgery! :)
destin2fly19 replied to PrincipalsOffice's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm defiitely not having enough, but I'm trying. I think a lot of it's in my head and I'm trying not to overindulge (ridiculous, right?), but I also have a problem drinking in general. Before getting banded I didn't drink much and would often get sick and dehydrated. I passed on at the beach on Labor Day because of it. My doctor knows all about my issue and I see my him and my nutritionist tomorrow. So, since I have never been a big drinker due to my lack of a thirsty sense, it's difficult to make myself drink now. I'm working on it big time today cause I feel like crap and have to go back to work next week. Thanks for the advice though. I'll try and continue sipping. -
November 09 Knockouts! Check in here POST surgery! :)

I was banded 11/25 and am experiencing port pain like the rest of you. I expected it since I have been reading posts on this site for well over a month now, but it still sucks. I started a liquid diet 9 days before my surgery, even though my surgeon only asked me to start 5 days prior, because I wanted to make sure to shrink my liver as well as possible. I will be on full liquids after this Friday (hopefully) when I see my nutritionist and surgeon. I don't expect solids for another 3 weeks or so. I'm feel pretty down and lack any energy because I can't get a lot of liquid down. I know I need more protien (at least 60 grams) and I'm getting around 20 a day. I proabably have around 200 calories a day. I'm looking forward to mushies to say the least. Check out my blog (by clicking on the link below) for more info on my pre and post surgery journey. -
100 pounds down! Never going back again!
destin2fly19 replied to ValJean's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
10 months! I want to be you when I grow up. LOL! You look great and I'm sure you feel the same. Congratulations! You're an inspiration. -
I 2nd the therapist idea. I have been seeing a therapist since before I got banded as well, and it has been a big help. She's banded as well so that's nice, but the biggest help is being able to figure out why I do the things I do (i.e. overeat). I know that when I start doing well I sabotage myself and it sounds like you do the same. I firmly believe that talking it out is the only way to figure it out. The band is not a cure all (as you know). You have to figure out what makes you eat and why you're overweight in order to keep from defeating the band or not being all in on this process. I know you can do this! Just be patient and talk it out.

I was banded 11/25 and know exactky how you're feeling. We are definitely November Bandsters and on our way to achieving successful and lasting weight loss. Wow! Just typing that was a bit surreal. I'll say good luck even though it sounds like you're in control and don't really need it. Enjoy your liquids! I know I am. LOL!

Help please with soup selection
destin2fly19 replied to ChrisW123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist and surgeon have me on clear liquids only for the first week or so. I'm six days out right now. My mom is helping me out with my Soups by heating my broth on the stove and adding carrots, onion, celery, green pepper, and seasoning. She strains everything out before serving it, but it adds a lot of flavor. I was also told to have protien shakes, so I'm having those along with sugar free popsicles, sugar free JELL-O, Water and Crystal Light (all also ok). Try not to do anything that your doctor doesn't recommend. Remember that you're healing and you don't want to do anything that will hurt you. We'll be healed and chewing food in no time. -
Time between your first visit to surgery date?
destin2fly19 replied to hlubag's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My first consult was 9/25 and I'm getting banded 11/25. My initial surgery date was 11/11, but I was supposed to go to NY for vacation in the beginning of November, so I pushed it back. I have Anthem BCBS. -
I just have to say that you have great style and you really know how to use a belt. Love it! You look so good and have definitely made me feel better about my journey. I'm excited and ready, but I started my pre-op liquid diet and am feeling a little down. Seeing you looking the way that you made me smile and reminded me why I am doing this. :w00t:

any lapbanders have a facebook?
destin2fly19 replied to fatgirlnomore7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There is a really great group on fb called Lap Band Divas and some of those women and men also use lbt. I would check out the group. It has been a great resource for me. I'm not going public with this process so it's a great way for me to have facebook friends that share in my experience without actually making them friends that may make comments that reveal my journey. :w00t: -
I think people are still not getting the point of this post and unfortunately are too busy defending their responses. I believe you just wanted to share that your feelings were hurt by a rude server. I'm truely sorry about that. No one deserves disrespect. Personally I don't see anything wrong with asking. How do you know if you don't ask. AND if you want to tell people that you had WLS that's YOUR choice. Wave a flag if you want to cause it's your life and your surgery. I am pretty quite about my plan to get the surgery, but I support people that are comfortable being vocal. All I know is that you weren't asking to be supported in asking for a reduced price, you were hurt and asking for support from fellow bandsters. I feel ya, and I'm sorry. Sometimes people do need a kick in the ass, but not right after they were humiliated in a Subway. C'mon people. Be a little more sensitive.

You have all been amazingly helpful. I'll keep in mind that cold Water is a problem to some and try to drink before and during my workouts (that's always been a challenge). The water backpack sounds pretty cool too. Thanks for the encouragement ladies!

-Yes, you should wear it all of the time (except while sleeping and in water) in order to get an accurate reflection of what you burn in a day. The point is to track how many calories you consume versus burn. It helps to know how much you've truly burned. I suggest wearing it at least one night while you sleep and just add that everyday instead of wearing it to sleep. That's what my 24 Hour Fitness Personal Trainer suggested when I had him. -I found the expected weight loss to be accurate. I wore it for 6+ months (I haven't worn it in close to a year because it didn't fit into my budget). You'll of course have to account for bloating and such on some weeks. -When I was wearing it and training 2x a week with a trainer and 2-3 times on my own, I burned 1,800 - 2,000 calories without working out and 2,800 - 3,100 when working out. I was 23 years old , 5' 7 1/2", and female. I can't say how accurate 1,600 calories is because it depends on your metabolism. If you exercise frequently you probably burn more when you don't exercise than if you didn;t have an exercise regimine. I hope this helps. Oh, and I loved the Body Bugg. I hope to get the new version next year.

Will You Be or Have You Had The H1N1 Shot
destin2fly19 replied to GraciesMom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The seaonal flu vaccine changes all of the time because there are so many different strains of the flu. Yes, this is a new vaccine, but often people are getting "new" vaccines and don't even realize it. I'm having surgery on 11/25 and I am going to ask my surgeon what he recommends. -
Hi Kate. I was just reading your post on one of the message boards and noticed in your signature that you had your surgery by Dr. Bhoyrul. He's my surgeon as well, but I won't be banded until the end of November. He seems amazing, but how do you like him? How was the surgery?

Any November 2009 Bandsters??
destin2fly19 replied to 120inside's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is my first time posting, but I've been reading through LBT for a month or more. I was supposed to have my pre-op appointment yesterday, but it got rescheduled for Tuesday. While on the phone with the Bariatric Coordinator, she told me that she submitted my info to insurance and set a tentative surgery date for 11/11. I was ecstatic! I have only been going through this process for 2weeks today. Even though she had me down for the 11th, I rescheduled for 11/25 (the day before Thanksgiving) because I have a trip to NY scheduled from the 4th - 8th. I can't wait. It's less than 2 months away.
