I've been away for awhile but I have lost a total of 72 lbs since my surgery on 3/23/11. I am so glad that I had this surgery!!! I dont regret it one bit. Thank you Pittsburgh VA, you have given me my life back. 36 lbs to goal!!!!

I am nervous and excited at the same time because my surgery is on the 23rd. I have to be in Pittsburgh PA on the 22nd for some last minute meetings with the surgeon, anesthesologist, etc. I have waited so long for this moment and it's basicly finally here! How great is that!!! See yall on the loser's bench!!!

As long as your husband is behind you (and to me that doesnt matter either) tell your sister and mom on this subject, they can kick rocks! I just dont understand why folks need validation from other people (and that includes family members) to do something that is for you! This benefits you and the struggles that you have had before hand and will have afterwards will not be theirs so dont worry about what ANYONE thinks! -
Got weighed in yesterday for Optifast pre-op. Down 20 lbs since 02/01/11. Not bad. Now to get my sholder surgery done on Friday which means real food on Thursday!!! Yippy Skippy!! Can't disobey the Orthopedic Surgeon....What should I eat??? No matter what I eat, I am going to make it count on the flavor chart!!!!

You are so lucky that you only have to do for 3 weeks. I am into week 2 of a 7 week pre-op diet. -
I am scheduled for surgery on March 23rd. My doctor requires the Optifast diet as the pre-op diet. My question is has anyone had to do any type of pre-op diet for 7 weeks??? This is my 3rd day and I am sooo hungry. Folks in my office are teasing me (lovingly) about how loud my stomach is growling. I am so hungry I can't concentrate on any task for very long. I am thinking of incorperating a garden salad at lunch or dinner (with a tablespoon or two of low calorie dressing) just to keep the hunger at bay. 7 weeks is a long, long time to be hungry. Anyone have any thoughts and/or suggestions? I'm desparate. I dont want to be non-compliant (they dont want you to have ANY food whatsoever) but I cant live like this. HELP!!!!

I am from PA (central) but I am getting my surgery done through the Pittsburgh VA, Dr. George Eid. -
I don't get sleeved until March 23 but I have already started my Optifast pre-op liquid diet which I am to do until 2 days before my surgery. We won't even talk about how a sista is starvin!!! lol I, like a lot of folks here, are concerned about hair loss. I keep a perm I have a short cut. Does anyone know wigs, braids, and/or sewn-in weaves will affect the hair loss? I just want to be prepared. Even on the days when I look "a hot mess" clothing wise, the hair and nails are always "sharp" LOL.

Thank you Dr. That explanation cleared up a lot for me but I just wish I wouldnt have to do for 7 weeks. I'm weak and very very hungry.

I have been trying to find information that is just for us. I've been especially wondering about hair loss and how it would effect a woman of color especially when one's hair is permed.

I will be getting my surgery done at theVA in Pittsburgh PA. Dr. Eid also does bariatric surgery at a civilian hospital in Pittsburg also. -
That's a good question seeing that I have to do the Optifast diet for basicly 7 weeks. Does anyone have the answer?

I have told people about my upcoming surgery. My co-workers are very supportive and I have used this opportunity to educate people. I also didnt want people to think that I was sick and want to do something for me for that reason (that's how my co-workers are. They will collect for you). Now for those who dont like what I'm doing, the can get the finger, the middle! I dont care what people think of me and if they come off wrong, heaven help them! I am going to do this for me and nobody else. You are either with me or against me..... -
