Hi everyone, my screenname is DiverJewel...I used to post on here alot! I live in Indiana. I have had the Band for 3 years August. I lost 100 lbs. 1 year ago, I became really sick with a Blood disorder I had and had to be on Steriods and have the band completely reversed. ( I am only 35) well.....I have gained back 35 lbs (I dont think that bad, I have heard of worse, right>?) but after 1 year finally my oncologist has given me the greenlight to have liquid put back into my band. I know now that I can not do this without the support of other "banders" no one I know understands. so I am back. looking forward to hearing all your stories....by the way after you give up bread for 2 yrs....even when your band is no longer your secure tool.....your brain still wont let you eat it. I can not eat bread even now......sweets, Oh Yeah!!!!!!! but not bread. it makes me feel sick, funny huh? I thought you all would like to know...that your brain is changing, or for those of you who are yet to be banded....even if you dont realize your brain is changing what foods you want. it is.... thanks.....Jewel (Griffith Indiana) By the way has any one seen a person by the screen name Serendipity (Jaime) on here ever???? I missed her. she lives in my area I met her at the lap band classes.....would love to hear from her. Thanks everyone.....Good luck. and God Bless

Finally Banded after 3 years - A few problems
DiverJewel replied to Banded_7_17_08's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have not suffered shingles but I can give you some info that will be helpful ( I am a nurse also) I have been banded for 2 years (i posted 3 but I meant 2) I have a auto-immune blood disease that has been in remission for 12 years. thought I was done with it, unitl I was banded...after that...my immune system crashed (lowered) because I wasnt getting enough nutriants....which is common when you are banded if you do not pay attention to your proteins...(I didnt) so that is why you are valnurable to diseases you have never had, your immune system is low....I had the liquid removed 1 year ago, gained back some weight yes...but my blood disease has (fingers crossed) went back into remisson so far....I am having it filled back up, wiser. smarter....to manage my nutriants....and take my vitamins faithfully. hope this helps. Hi Serious my name is Jewel, I live in Indiana... I was banded on August on 8-17-06, it was hard, the lifestyle change is hard later on I think, not really in the beginning. It is all worth it though, keep that in mind. I was 252 lbs to start with now I am 195.....when I get discouraged and wish I didnt do it, I go slip on those size 12 jeans (from a size 24) and if that doesn't put me in check (it usually does) I go run for a Mile and half...you see before the surgery I couldn't run to my mail box! Its nice to feel active and apart of the outside thin world. active, healthy, nothing looks better than that! every wanna talk just email me....Jewel from Indiana

Hi, I am new..My name is Jewel, I just had my Lap band procedure today and it went wonderfully! I learned about this web site through a friend in my "LapBand Class" and I am so greatful for it and exciited to meet other people who have done it, I has so horrified today thought about not going through with it, I had been on a liquid diet for 2 weeks and a clear liquid for 3 days and was DYING of hunger so much that I almost didnt have the surgery. But I am glad I did, everything went so good I was home in a short time, I woke up with little pain, just sorness where my port is, did anyone else have that? not the band it self, just the port site...I didn't expect that. but feel great so far, no nausea or vomiting...I am very happy at this point, but I am also a surgical nurse and know the hard part might come in the morning....Well, its nice to have all of you and I am looking forward to being part of your Lap Band family! I am 34 yrs old, I live in Indiana (near Chicago) I was 250 lbs before my band but lost 20lbs when I started my liquids...so, I will keep ya all posted! Jewel

Hi Everyone, My name is Jewel, I had surgery Thursday August 17th, it's been more painful than I expected...and the pain is just in my port area, wow...hurts!!!! I did start having problems with vomiting, just a little bit, but that has passed, I am beginning to feel that"full" feeling everyone keeps telling me about. I am so very hungry all the time, I hope that feeling subsides.....SOON!! LOL My husband would always Joke with me saying by having the Lap Band it was pushing the "easy button" Well, I have news for him!!! I think he should get on here and read everyones posts, it isn't the easy button, it is just the opposite. I am glad I have all of you on here, I don't feel alone in all this. So nice to meet ya and Good luck in all the days to come. Love, Jewel Indiana

Thank you all so much for the encouraging words, I am so glad I found this site! Yesterday I felt great, but this morning I feel like I have been hit by a train, so much pain...but I know it will pass and the feeling of losing weight will be so worth it. I am not really feeling full when I drink my protein shakes, or anything else for that matter.....kind of feeling hungry all the time, is it supposed to feel like that? I thought I would feel full right away. Again, thanks for welcoming me.....I am very excited about following all of your stories through this, I feel less alone in this journey now......
