Are you a man, a woman or something else?
btrieger replied to btrieger's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Her intentions were not as innocent as they may appear. Her character is more obvious in this response from another thread: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f84/help-boss-announces-whole-staff-about-surgery-108319/#post1395573 It was not kstate that upset the hive, it was Mickey Mouse saying the "other" is offensive. -
Sabatoging my progress......
btrieger replied to deb12983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I should have qualified my statement with: In my opinion, an addiction is physical and a compulsion is mental. -
Should I bother using the phone coach? I have until March 1st.

There is no need to have surgery if you plan on joining the military. Trust me, they will take the extra pounds off of you in boot camp whether you like it or not!

Sabatoging my progress......
btrieger replied to deb12983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm with Betsy on this one. I have a problem with alcohol, gambling and food. None of these are addictions for me. They are compulsions. I hide behind them or use them to fill in voids in my life. Finding a non-destructive hobby will definitely curb all of the above. Calling it an addiction is just a way of justifying your actions to yourself and others. Deb, You did great for a couple of weeks but were you depriving yourself of the things you now crave? If so, that is where the problem lays. There are no bad foods when eaten in moderation. It sounds like you may have been trying a little too hard. Meet in the middle and eat at a rate where you will lose half as much as you were over the last couple of months. You'll still lose weight, yet you won't be depriving yourself as much. -
Falling off the "band" wagon before banding!
btrieger replied to outside*looking*in's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You have to forget about diets and start thinking about altering your eating habits for the rest of your life. Diets deprive you of certain foods and only make you crave them more. Diets also have end dates. You are in this for the rest of your life. Even after you are banded you will be able to shovel in tons of food until you have restriction and that could take a long time. Throw out the South Beach book and any other fad diet media you have laying around. Do not wait until Monday or another minute. The rest of your life starts now!!!! Start slow. Don't change a thing you are eating, just cut 1/4 of it off and throw it away. Then chew slower so it will take just as long to eat less. Try and eat only 3 meals a day and space them 4-5 hours apart. If you are hungry in between meals, grab a 100 calorie snack. Chips and cookies are fine in moderation. Do not eat out of boredom or convenience because you are walking by a vending machine or the refrigerator. Journal everything that passes your lips. You can do this on paper or online. Drink at least 64 ounces of water a day. This is very important. Try and walk at least 150 minutes a week. You can split this up any way you'd like. After you've done this stuff, then you can start thinking about replacing some of what you are eating with healthier alternatives. I have been doing everything I just listed and am dropping 3-5 pounds a week. I am not hungry, nor am I tempted to go to a buffet somewhere. I will be banded sometime next month so I will have a safety net. YOU CAN DO THIS!! -
6mo supervised weight loss - how much did you lose?
btrieger replied to LuuLuu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Only had to complete 3 months but I have dropped 68 pounds since my initial consultation on September 18th. I should have a date for surgery any day now. -
About to lose it... can't wait for fill!!
btrieger replied to SwanGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suggest you re-read it and try not to be defensive. He is giving you the facts, warning you of some of pitfalls and congratulating you on coming as far as you have. -
I want magic, I don't want to work, just give me a magic piece of plastic
btrieger replied to tarajim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read the original post as being facetious and showing frustration with those that keep posting about their bands not working like they should and those that respond with, "it will work after a fill or two" without ever delving into the fact that they have to change their lifestyle in order to make the band work. I can't figure out if they are being patronizing or are just plain ignorant as to what the band actually does. -
Admitting to people how much you weigh?
btrieger replied to PalmBayTish72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think men have much of a problem with this but you can always just brush them off and say you haven't weighed yourself in a while or change the topic slightly and start talking about how much healthier you are or how much better you feel. -
Is he prepared to make the sacrifices to work out with you and modify his eating habits along with you for the rest of your lives? Have you tried this with him? What is his reaction when you falter on your nutrition or don't feel like working out? Surgery should be a last resort and it isn't going away. You are young, take your time and work with him to make your decision. Although you are both thinking differently about it, it doesn't mean either of you is more right than the other but in the end, it is your life and you have the final say.

HB, Your bodies may be similar and you may have experienced some things that the OP is experiencing now but I "think" she may be looking for those that still have those experiences fresh in their mind as opposed to fuzzy memories. :w00t:

How many children did she raise to adulthood as compared to how many you raised to adulthood by 29? Also, she probably didn't have the modern appliances that you took for granted at 29 like a microwave oven, steam dryer, electric refrigerator, etc... She's also been through menopause. I doubt you went through that by 29. 29 is barely the beginning of life. If you think you've seen and lived it all, you are in for a rude awakening.

There is no "other" choice here because I didn't want to offend. I want to lose weight for all of the reasons I listed but my health is by far the most important reason.

$600 Program Fee? Ouch!
btrieger replied to stl2atl07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just don't eat at any fast food joints and put the money aside that you would have spent there. It will add up fast if you are anything like me. -
There are plenty of things you can eat while banded that will help you gain weight. You can wash all kinds of food down with Water or juice. Even easier is drinking the calories. I don't personally know anybody that is banded but I do know a few that had bypass. One of them is an alcoholic and after losing only about 50 pounds managed to pack that and more back on drinking beer. As for hurting when overeating; I'm not banded yet but I have eaten so much in one sitting that I was in pain for hours many times in the last 45 years. It never stopped me from doing it again and again.

I was being facetious. I am pretty blunt if you hadn't noticed. Aunt Flo would have noticed

I don't know why but I feel compelled to say, "the bubbles mean it's working." Just sing and whistle a lot and nobody else will hear it. Congrats!

How to Attach a Picture to a Post
btrieger replied to PhotoNut's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
I followed the instructions in the original post word for word and it worked. I did have to use the "QUOTE" option to get the paper clip to show up. Not my best picture but far from my worst. -
who supports right to choose
btrieger replied to 396power's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Bull!!! You actually exist and nobody is claiming that your mother was a virgin when she gave birth to you. -
I think she did and she gave a pretty good reply. There isn't a twenty-something alive that has the life experience of a sixty year old. You may have the stress; aches and pain but not the life experience.
