Global Warming: Real or hoax?
btrieger replied to serenity55's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Does it take a long period or is it soon? Make up your mind. It's a hoax, plain and simple. The Earth goes through cycles and whether man existed or not, the climates would gradually change. Haven't you read any of the articles that Jack has linked here? -
Still on the fence about getting lapband or gastric sleeve. Any advice?
btrieger replied to mom2four's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance won't do VSG but the main deciding factor for me between bypass and the band is the fact that the band does not make any permanent changes to my body. -
Question about exercise/calories consumed
btrieger replied to juliansmom2003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everybody's body DOES NOT lose differently. If you burn 3,500 calories more than you consume, you will lose a pound. If I burn 3,500 calories more than I consume, I will lose a pound. If Queen Elizabeth burns 3,500 calories more than she consumes, she will lose a pound. 100 calories of carbs is the same as 100 calories of fat is the same as 100 calories of protein when you are talking weight loss. Just as a ton of feathers is just as heavy as a ton of bricks. The advantage of eating proteins over carbohydrates is that proteins will fill you faster and contain nutrients which are necessary to keep our bodies strong. A lot of carbs, like those in processed food are empty calories without any nutritional value. Fats on the other hand can be both bad and good. Saturated fats are the ones we are warned against because they tend to clog our arteries. Unsaturated fats lower cholesterol and help our blood flow better. -
I think that is what I had to drink prior to my last colonoscopy. It will clean you right out.

Newbi,, need advice
btrieger replied to sweatinitout's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The paperwork doesn't usually get sent to the insurance company until you've done what is required by the doctor and insurance company. This is usually includes a 3 - 6 month supervised diet period. Did they just call your insurance company and were told that lapband surgery is not covered? Your BMI is high enough to get you surgery if they do cover it at all. If they don't cover it then you can pay for it in cash. -
Is anyone taking diet pills?

I think they weren't ready for WLS. You either diet or you modify your lifestyle. Doing both is counterproductive. -

Being converted to gastric bypass......
btrieger replied to ashleyb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The left nut controls thinking and the right nut controls motor skills. We don't need to know how to think. -
Is "Wheel of Fortune" about learning to read or "Deal or No Deal" about selecting luggage? It is a game show and the money is very important. I don't like the red team because they are lying and disrespectful to those that are trying to help them. It's not really the game play.

female OK. Kill me now and get it over with

Ditto.

I can't stand red either. No different from the blue chick last season. However, the kind of attitude that both green players have is like a cancer and can spread. It is good that one is gone.

BUZZZ!! Technical foul! You can't bring up something that happened almost 40 years ago. Some people in this debate weren't even reborn yet.

Parents I hope!

Get in contact with your surgeon immediately; get a fill and get some sort of therapy or counseling for your love of over eating. And forget about self-pity or self-loathing. It will only make matters worse. You made a small error is judgment. Try hypnotism or acupuncture if you aren't in the mood to sit with a therapist. The numbers are out there: 97% of people that lose 100 pounds or more, gain at least half of it back. I'm hoping the lapband can break the vicious cycle.

I think Rudy and Danny both losing over 200 pounds each saved it. That would be lots of fun! The men would do fine but the women would be clawing at each other every chance they got. The majority of the viewers are women and they think that y'all want to see sensitive men.

Worried about weightloss
btrieger replied to Bell1138's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my reading over the past year I've come to realize that failure to lose weight with the lapband falls in the following categories: - Physical issues - Proven broken lapband - Medical mistakes whilst installing of filling lapband - Patient's ignorance/insufficient research - Patient's laziness/stubbornness/lack of will power The vast majority fall into the latter two categories. A ton of people, cliche intended, failed to do sufficient if any research. They were looking for an easy way out and thought that all they had to do is have this magical ring placed inside them and the would wake up svelte in less than a year. They do not or cannot grasp the concept that losing weight has to do with burning more calories than you consume and has little to do with how many cc's of fairy dust are inserted into their magic ring. These people are not hopeless, they just need a lot of research and a little education on how to use the tool that they now possess. The lazy / stubborn / will powerless crowd refuse to believe that the lapband is only a tool and that they actually have to work at losing the weight or they know what needs to be done and don't have the will power to do it. These people are also not without hope but the resolution to their problems can most likely only be achieved by therapy or maturity. Both require a bunch of support. The stubborn can get frustrating but they either come around or go away sooner or later. -
It's not enough to "watch" what you eat. Log everything you eat either online or on paper and you my be surprised to see that you are eating more than you thought. Make sure that you are drinking at least 64 ounces of clear Water a day.

Plateau - trying not to get discouraged
btrieger replied to 20zmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You lose weight by burning more calories than you are taking in. There are equations and devices to figure out how many calories you are burning but if you keep caloric intake below 1,500 a day, you should lose weight. If you aren't already doing so, log everything you eat either on paper or online. You may be surprised to see that you are eating more than you thought. Also, drink plenty of Water. This is needed to flushes the waste from your system. If you slow down on the water your body will start holding onto fluids. If you're doing all of this and still stuck in the mud, you may need to shock you system as mentioned earlier. -

Are you a man, a woman or something else?
btrieger replied to btrieger's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Nobody is surprised that there are a bunch of women here. What is surprising is how many men. I live in Texas where half of the Americans here appear to be from and during my group meetings it was usually 4 women to ever one man. About the same as the results here. -
Congrats!! You look great and I wouldn't worry about the plateau unless you start gaining weight.

Being converted to gastric bypass......
btrieger replied to ashleyb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd give my left nut to weigh 195! Hell, I'd give the set to be 23 or twenty anything again. Does your surgeon have his eye on a new yacht or something? I could only imagine a Hollywood surgeon even considering bypass surgery on somebody your age and weight. DON'T do it!! And whomever mentioned "no more pregnancies." It's true, there is a huge chance of birth defects do to nutrient deficiency.
