You always have to wear the armband. The other device shows you in real time how many calories you have burned for the day and how many steps you have taken. It is $79.99 and kind of useless unless you can't wait until you get home to download and see the data.

Regret Telling Friends ...
btrieger replied to KimDB's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just tell them that if they persist you want nothing to do with them or else ignore them until they ask you why. -
It is an armband that measure only calories out. Here's a link to the site: How it Works

Whatever you decide to do, find a different surgeon to do it. If he put the band in right the first and second times it probably would not have slipped. Who was the surgeon? Please, please, please don't say Dr. Kim in Colleyville.

Do you believe in a god or gods?
btrieger replied to btrieger's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Look at the forum that it is posted in. If there is going to be a debate (an argument) about it, this is the place for it. 30 people have voted so far and only 2 have posted an opinion. As I said, nobody was required to justify anything. I wasn't looking for debate, I am just curious how far we have come. -

Give Dr Kim's office a call and they can tell you what will be required from you. I got the information on Aetna from them before I even visited. Bariatric Weight Loss LAP-BAND System Gastric Bypass Surgery Arlington Dallas Fort Worth (Ft. Worth) Texas (TX) Then you can judge how difficult it will be. -
It will be February here in less than 25 hours and I still don't have a date yet. Am I the only one that may have to pack their bags and get off of this thread?

So If I complie a list of things one cant eat drink after the Op can someone respond?
btrieger replied to Native Twinkie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm feeling like a hypocrite after my last reply. You can probably find a dozen posts by me on this site that say there is no such thing as a bad food when eaten in moderation. Not to mention I had an ice cream sandwich an hour ago. I apologize but I think what got me was that there were no nutritious foods mentioned. Perhaps a favorite fruit or nut? -

I don't want to be an ass but everything on this list with the exception of vinegar and perhaps Diet Coke is GARBAGE! Let's say that none of these pose a problem. Is this what you plan to continue eating? -

Is this going to be another failed attempt?
btrieger replied to Bell1138's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's great that you are realizing that the band is a tool and not a magic wand. I noticed much the same. I think you may be focusing too much on the negatives. For every failure, there is a success. Having the stories of the failures as well as the successes all in one place is great. You can list out the things the failures have done and you should not do; the things that the successes have done and you should do; Then look at your list and decide whether you can do this and if the band is right for you. I am yet to be banded and this is the process I have been going through for more than a year in making my decision. -

I got a crock pot for xmas and decided to give it a try today. I turned it on low 8 hours ago and threw the following into it 1 large onion sliced 1 large bell pepper sliced 2 stalks celery sliced 4 cloves of garlic crushed 2 quarts of whole button mushrooms 3 pounds cubed pork shoulder 2 sprigs of rosemary minced 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce 1/2 white wine vinegar 1 cup water 2 teaspoons black pepper 1 table spoon no-salt (potassium) Sounds good even as I type this but it isn't. It is totally tasteless. The meat is as tender as can be but it tastes like I boiled it. What am I doing wrong? Should I not put water in there? With all of those aromatics, the flavor should be there. All is not lost because I can dump a bunch of cumin and hot sauce in to give it flavor but I shouldn't have to.

Is crock pot food supposed to be bland?
btrieger replied to btrieger's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks. May give it another shot tomorrow. It didn't turn out as bad as I thought last time. I was eating it while it was cooking and searing my taste buds. I guess. I rescued it with a bunch of rice to soak up the water and some bacon salt. I am going to cook half of a pork shoulder. Is there any need to even thaw it? And why do so many people suggest browning the meat first? -

I have my final pre-surgery nutritionist appointment on Wednesday and my paperwork is being submitted to Aetna after my final pre-surgery consult with the surgeon on January 6th. I have been reading these boards almost religiously since September to get an idea of what to expect. Surprisingly, it seems that many of the people that been banded have more questions than I do. I've put together a list of pet peeves I have on this site. If one or more of them sounds like you and you are offended; frankly, I don't care. Save your breath. :tt1: 1. The following 3 questions are asked all of the time and there should be a canned response: Q1: I've had my band for a while. Why I am not losing weight? Q2: Will I lose weight after I get fills? Q3: How long after I get banded will I start losing weight? The band and fills do not directly affect your weight loss. If you don't change your eating habits and start exercising, the band probably won't work for you. 2. This is the latest I have been seeing and I just want to strangle the posters: "I'm afraid I will have loose skin." Yo! You are morbidly obese and looking at an early grave. Do you really think that "bingo wings" or saggy boobs are any less attractive than blubber? Worry about the weight first. The plastic surgeon can fix the rest afterward if need be. 3. Another favorite: "I was recently banded and can still eat as much as I want." Perhaps you should have done a little research before having surgery and a foreign object implanted in your body! Little or no restriction is realized until you have a fill or 2. Meanwhile, just because you can eat everything in sight, doesn't mean you have to. Try using just a little bit of willpower. 4. "I cheated on pre-surgery diet" Do you understand that you're undergoing surgery that will require you to modify your eating habits for the rest of your life? If you can't control yourself for a week or two maybe you should rethink getting a LAP-BAND®. 5. Women replying in the men's forum. Ladies, when a man asks a question in "The Men's Room"; he is most likely looking for advice from men. If not, he would have posted it in the general discussion forum. I better quit before I get in trouble O.K., one more and perhaps the most minor of them all; we do not "loose" weight. We may have loose skin after losing weight but we do not "loose" weight.

How long does it take to be approved?
btrieger replied to ashingee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There are way too many variables to be considered for anybody to give you a straight answer. From the time your paperwork is submitted to insurance to getting a reply is usually less than 2 weeks. A lot of insurance companies have mandatory waiting periods or supervised diets for 3 - 6 months. Others don't. You should check with your insurance company to find out their requirements.
