Traveling After Surgery
btrieger replied to anna_ree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many people travel long distances to Mexico and other 3rd world countries, then hope on a bus or plane for a long ride home the next day. It may be uncomfortable but you should be safe. Definitely ask your surgeon though. Besides that, why from CC to Dallas? That is backward! You're supposed to go from DFW to CC! -
A lot of us have Aetna and have been approved. Your anesthesiologist will just have to use an accepted method or your surgeon can use a different anesthesiologist.

Dr. Huacuz in Tijuana...Beware! He banded an esophagus!
btrieger replied to melissasmith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe it. There is another thread here about this same guy killing somebody's father. I would never have surgery in a third world country. But if I was forced to, it would be by somebody I checked out thoroughly. -
I think that they don't agree with the anesthesia. Your surgeon's office will be more familiar. Give them a call tomorrow morning. They probably got a copy of the same letter.

Pre Surgery Weight Loss Attempt
btrieger replied to gatlingirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to want it to make it happen. Stop eating fast food. It is nothing but garbage! Do not drink sugary beverages with calories. Drink at least 64 ounces of Water a day. Eat Breakfast every day. Eat only 3 meals a day. Cut your portions by 20 or 25%. Use smaller plates. It makes it seem like more food. Stop eating when you are no longer hungry. You don't have to clean your plate! If you must snack between meals, keep it to 150 calories or less. Keep a journal either on paper or online of EVERYTHING that passes your gums. This is important. It may show you that you are eating more than you thought and will be a great help when you see a dietitian. Focus on what you will gain from this and not what you are missing out on. This is what has worked for me so far. I won't be banded for another 43 hours 20 minutes and I have managed to lose over 90 pounds in 5 months. Good luck! -
banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
btrieger replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
43 hours 35 minutes until I report to the hospital. Thanks again all. I just happen to have the same surgeon as Leigha and am very comforted by her story. Dr Kim and his staff have been great to me as well for the past 5.5 months except for that one dizzy chick that tried to ruin my life. Good riddance Laura! I still don't know where or when the support group meets. I hope I get that info and the secret handshake on Tuesday. -
had all fluid removed from slip :(

The band didn't lose that 117 pounds. You did! It just helped a little. You can maintain without restriction. You just need to be a little more cautious. Just remember how you lost the weight in the first place. Eat Breakfast Chew well Stop eating when you are no longer hungry Document everything you eat Only drink calorie free beverages Don't drink while you eat Drink at least 64 ounces of Water a day Good luck and remember you aren't alone. Check in here often for support. -

Thank guys!! About 47 hours 45 minutes until I have to be at the hospital but who's counting? Liz, it takes me less than 6 months to lose 100 pounds. This is the third time and the band better make it the last time I have to. I started my LAP-BAND® journey on September 18th. One week later, I had a heart attack because I had 2 coronary arteries that were totally blocked. This gave me plenty of motivation. It's not that I don't want to die but if I do, I want to be kind to my pallbearers. -
"Couch to 5K" check in -- How are you doing?
btrieger replied to sawyer77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am somewhere between week 3 and week 4. I's been about 20 weeks but I am in no hurry. -
There is nothing I hate more than ungrateful people. Especially when they voice it. Even if you did drive up in Rolls Royce; you should not be ashamed to be successful or have more money than others. I bet the majority of the people that got your clothes were grateful. Try to think of them and not the ungrateful jerks that are envious of you.

Looking for March 2010 bandsters threads
btrieger replied to Fern's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dayna, I have been on Optifast shakes for 3 weeks now and it's not bad. One week should be a breeze. If you're drinking coffee, try to stick to decaf. Between the anesthesia and pain meds you may see a little constipation and caffeine makes it worse. I have exactly 48 till surgery and I am still not excited. I've become so skeptical that I won't believe anything until I see it. My fear is gone. I was a little concerned about pain but it sounds like it is more discomfort than pain. Good luck! -
I agree with your mom and your sister. Talk to you surgeon's office tomorrow and see what they think.

Anyone ever do a Pre Pre Op diet???
btrieger replied to Megg40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! I basically just cut my portions down by about 25% and began walking a lot. I've even thrown a tiny bit of running in. I don't consider this a diet. I have not gone to bed hungry since I started and don't plan on going back to what I was doing. I am building up my arsenal of tools: Bodybugg Treadmill Lapband Knowledge I attribute a lot of my weight loss to the Bodybugg. It tells me how many calories I am burning. So, I know how many calories I can eat and still lose. The treadmill takes away my excuses for not walking because of weather. The lapband is going to be used to keep me honest with portions. I came into this knowing quite a bit about weight loss but in my research of the lapband and reading the experiences of people here, I am learning quite a bit more. I try to do what the successful people have done and stay away from what the failures are doing. -
Anyone ever do a Pre Pre Op diet???
btrieger replied to Megg40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started modifying my eating habits; portion sizes and exercise regimen the day before my first consultation in September if that is what you mean. I'm heading into surgery about 95 pounds leaner. -
7 day pre-op diet, is this possible?
btrieger replied to Philligirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slow down. Who told you you were supposed to do 2 weeks liquids? The same people that informed you that your surgery was in 7 days? Most importantly, who told you that you had to lose 10 pounds? -
Congrats!! I am not banded yet but one of the rules of weight loss is to stop eating when you are no longer hungry. You don't necessarily have to be "full"
-
Good luck with the surgery. You can take advantage of the physical therapy afterward to get your exercise in. The pounds are going to be melting away.

Spring into March 2010 Bandsters
btrieger replied to NYSparklegirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hope we don't have to pee. I am going in at 11:30 A.M. and was told not to even drink water after midnight. They gave me the soap to use when I went to hospital for pre-op this week. Surgical scrub or something like that. -
incision problems? Mine are opening!!
btrieger replied to mrsboomer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd go to the emergency room. If the Fluid smells bad it is definitely infected. -
I have a Kitchen-Aid immersion blender and it has no problem with crushing ice but the counter top blender does it faster. The immersion is a lot easier to clean though.

Not on Wednesday. I am on shakes until the March 16th. Then blended/mushie stuff for 2 weeks. So, right around April 2nd I will be reporting back on my first stuck, slime and bp all at once  -

Wonderful indeed! I have to be at the hospital in 63 hours 6 minutes. -
How long has it been? Are you getting plenty of walking in to make things move around? If it goes past 7 days, I'd call your surgeon or head the emergency room. If you are impacted it can affect your organs. Check out this thread from last week: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/tmi-alert-constipation-110478/
