3 days since surgery and have not lost ANY weight
btrieger replied to peacock774's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people lose 30 - 40 pounds in the first 3 days. something must be wrong. Just kidding. Patience is a virtue. -
Losing weight but not a change in pant size!!!!
btrieger replied to jen36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We can't control where the weight comes off but the first place it usually comes off is in and around our vital organs (belly/visceral fat). Give it time and when it is done there it will continue throughout your body. -
Cravings - do they ever go away?
btrieger replied to kurby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I modified my lifestyle 9 months ago and am 3 months out of surgery. The only carbs I ate regualary are rice and potatoes; I was never really a big sweets person. So I didn't have to abandon any of the foods that I actually craved. I just eat them in moderation now. Don't just quit cold turkey. that is what causes cravings. Take it slow and cut down your portions. If you eat/ate bread with every meal; cut that down to just lunch or even lunch and dinner for now. -
Harsh, yes but it was my honest opinion. It kills me that a lot of us are doing everything we can to get healthy including such drastic measures as having surgery. While others think it is just another toy that you turn off when you are done playing with it.

sugar free pudding; Baked Doritos; Baked Cheetohs; Cottage Cheese; Frozen yogurt; etc... It doesn't have to be bird or rabbit food. Those get old fast and we revert back to our old ways. Eat tasty stuff in moderation and try to keep the fats and sugars low.

People who don't undersand
btrieger replied to takingcontrol's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 95 pounds between my initial consultation and surgery. I heard it all but explained that anybody can lose weight. The band is my insurance policy to not gain it back again. The funny thing is that everyone was understanding except one chick I work with that has just dropped 100 pounds. The hundred pounds she lost is the weight she gained back since last time she lost 100 pounds. She doesn't understand that it is a vicious cycle and sometimes bold steps have to be taken to stop this cycle. Good luck and in the end, you have to realize that everyone has opinions and only yours counts when it comes to your health and well being. -
Only a real idiot would do that. If somebody looks forward to and enjoys gorging themselves then they should not even consider lapband surgery. Eating like overstuffed hogs is what got us fat in the first place. We either want to change or we don't.

am a FAILURE in my weight-loss journey
btrieger replied to MissWhitzel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Your troubles stem from your head. You need to find out what is keeping you from doing what you know is right. Is it depression; procrastination; anxiety; laziness; apathy; etc...? You should see a therapist or a shrink to try and sort it out. -

How much time can you be out on disability for?
btrieger replied to Veleda's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You take a few sick days. You will be recovered and ready to go back to work a day or two later unless your job requires heavy lifting. Most of use take 3 to 5 days off but there is no long recovery period. -
Welcome aboard and congrats on your loss! The more the merrier. I wish our support meetings were more than monthly. Better get a picture up soon though. This site is 80% chicks and they refer to everyone as a woman by default.

first stuck episode?
btrieger replied to trishfish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sliming is the best part of getting stuck. When you spit it into the toilet is is kind of like a jellyfish. -
Aren't we already breeding of control in the first place? Why in the world would anyone want to manufacture more creatures or even people?

I heard this is the most deadly form of weight loss surgery that there is and BeLiteWeight.com are known as killers! Not really but I like screwing up advertisements. -
Did you guys have to fill out a HUGE pack of papers?
btrieger replied to spoiltmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The surgeons office should do most and walk you through the rest. If they don't; find one that will. -
Recommend dr's in Dallas?
btrieger replied to JMinDallas's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Great choice. I don't think they come any better. Dr Kim and his staff are head and shoulders above the rest. Take my word for it, I am not afraid to call a spade a spade. These people are top notch!!! -
Optifast Shake Poll!
btrieger replied to Mommy2Ps's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You should have made it multiple choice and had a button for "they all suck". I love strawberry and chocolate equally. -
I just got my surgery approval today and am scared
btrieger replied to karens2cats's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are not afraid, you are apprehensive but that is all semantics. If you are a true overeater then your problems will be solved with the lapband. As long as you eat the "right" foods; the lapband will prevent you from overdoing it. OA is useless. They are literally, the "biggest" bunch of hyprocrites I've ever met. They sit around justifying each others' problems. I never accomplished anything with them. They are the ones that are scared, they are scared you will be successful. I saw a lot more support from weight-watchers but that still wasn't enough. -
Husband doesn't notice weight loss
btrieger replied to Humming Bird's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Maybe it's a man thing because to be honest; I don't notice my own weight loss and I have dropped over 1/3 of my body weight. He's not looking for a new, thinner you. He loves you no matter what. Or DH: "Wow, you lost a lot of weight, you look great." DW: "Are you saying I was fat and ugly before?" -
A little pain while walking
btrieger replied to x96oun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like either gas or dehydration. Make sure to drink plenty of Water. You lose a lot of water in the summer. -
Too tight or bad bandster?
btrieger replied to Chele6378's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Put out your wrist. Bad bandster, bad! Drinking while eating seems to reconstitute Proteins no matter how much you chewed prior to swallowing. Lesson learned. I learned this the hard way with chicken as well. It was 2 weeks ago and it was the last time I drank with a meal. I will try and stay away from my whole anti-McDonald's spiel before I get called a preacher again. -
Why am I GAINING weight?
btrieger replied to sueslostcontrol's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a little bit of a compromise for those, like me that can't resist weighing ourselves daily. Weigh daily, record the weight weekly. -
Good luck!

There are a couple of regulars here that had their surgery at Fort Hood in Texas. So, military doctors can do the surgery and fills. There is also a surgeon that has his office right outside a base in South Korea. But as Mimi said, it would be a lot easier to help you out if you gave your destination.

first stuck episode?
btrieger replied to trishfish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It feels like you're a vampire and you've been staked through the heart. You feel like you can't breathe but if you relax you will realize there is nothing wrong with your breathing. Don't fear it, it will happen sooner or later. At the same time, do everything you can to avoid it. Small bites and chew forever before swallowing. I got stuck twice before any adjustments (fills) at all.
