How much weight can you lose with the Lap band in 7 months?
btrieger replied to Rose7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anywhere from 1 to 200 pounds give or take 100 pounds. It depends on how willing you are to work at it. When are you getting banded? Are you losing prior to surgery? -
If they really want to save trees, they should be eating beavers. :tongue2:

What would you do re: Family Reunion?
btrieger replied to Mommy2Ps's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll be fine. Most of us go back to work 4 or 5 days after surgery and that is much more trying than a vacation. Try and sit as far away from the food as possible to keep the temptations down. -
Keep reading as much as possible here. You will realize that the majority of us are kindred spirits. We've all been on yo-yo diets our entire lives.

I did 4 straight weeks of only 5 Optifast shakes a day and don't recall being hungry once. It's mind of matter. Get your mind off of food! PS. Do they tell you sugar free Jello was ok? Mine was strictly Optifast and Water.

I don't think you can get it from the store. On the Optifast website you can locate a distributor. I don't think you have to be a patient of teh doctor to purchase it from them but I don't know.

Vomiting every day...
btrieger replied to LapBandBobbi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bell, please call your surgeon! We can help each other with diet, attitude and even fashion but when it comes to real health issues, the only ones that know exactly what to do are the medical professionals. -
Not afraid of Surgery BUT....?
btrieger replied to JCSTOM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Answers below. Make sure to read as many posts and blogs on this site as you can. Everyone has a different perspective on things. -
This reminded me that I hadn't tried pizza since my second fill. If I am in pain I am going to blame all of you that posted here
-
I've had two fills so far and am definitely feeling some restriction but so far pizza is still on the menu. Only now I eat 2 small slices instead of 2 small pizzas.

VERY FRUSTRATED -- partly my fault
btrieger replied to dragonflylover's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I should've also included a congratulations on the weight you have lost. If everything you eat is getting stuck, you may still be too tight. This is just as bad or worse than not being tight enough because you have choice but to either cheat and eat slider foods or starve. Your brain and body won't let you do the latter. This is probably the reason your PA is being stingy with fills. It may be for your own good. I understand that having to pay out of pocket makes it a lot more inconvenient to get the required adjustments be it a fill or unfill but I don't know of a solution for that off hand. Document everything that passes your gums for the next week or so. You can do this on Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and it will calculate the calories for you. If you are averaging more than 1,500 calories a day, you'll need to cut that down to about 1,200. If you are averaging under 1,000 a day; you may not be consuming enough and may need to bump it up 200 calories. Keep your chin up. Losing slowly is 1,000 times better than gaining quickly. -
Everything is mushie if you own a blender or food processor. Be creative.

Nobody is losing massive amounts of weight with little effort!!!! Try documenting everything you eat and drink. You may be surprised that you are consuming a lot more calories than you thought. Make sure you drink at least 64 ounces of Water daily. Make sure you consume at least 50 grams of Protein daily. Work on the attitude, nothing comes easy and it only makes it harder when you are fighting it. The people with the positive attitudes didn't get them because they are successful. They are successful because they had positive attitudes. Good luck. -
Congrats!! I hope I can make the same post in a year or so.

Pre-op: not hungry. Is this odd?
btrieger replied to hiddnstar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not odd at all, just lucky. I had a 3 week liquid pre-op diet and wasn't hungry either. I knew I was lucky. Congrats and good luck! -
Wow have I fallen off the wagon!!
btrieger replied to warrior68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know many ways to lose 15lbs in a hurry but none of them is good for you. So, I am not going to mention them. Instead, I suggest that you climb right back on the wagon. You know where it is parked. Do whatever you were doing to lose the weight in the first place and throw in a lot more exercise. You can do this!! -
Wow! Deja vu! I could have sworn I just read and replied to this exact post 2 minutes ago. Please don't double post. You may miss out on half of the replies.

Thanks but rude is different from everybody's perspective. I get called rude a lot and I can understand how somebody can see it that way.
I try to be honest and give the answer that I need to get or needed to get. Which is not necessarily the one I wanted to hear.

HELP!!! Questions I need answered ASAP!
btrieger replied to erieli's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your surgeon's office. These are questions for them, not a bunch of strangers. Everybody patient and surgeon are different. -
Gee, we all must have read this wrong Good luck and don't worry, I won't waste "your" time responding to your next plea for assistance.

Oh I know your there now.......buddy
btrieger replied to Dblex's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, you only get a 1/2 point if you didn't slime and throw up. Sliming is the best part of getting stuck. Here's a little tip: Do NOT drink to get unstuck after you start getting fills. It NEVER works and only makes matters worse. -
Congrats!! I am flying coach for the first time in 5 years on Wednesday. I've dropped 125 pounds since last time. I hope all of me stays in my seat now.

How do you pace your drinking?
btrieger replied to marykb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like a load of crap to me too. Liquids shouldn't sit in your pouch more than a few seconds unless you are way too tight. Mary, ask your doctor to explain what he/she means.
