    Hi New

Welcome aboard and hunker down. The insurance approval process can seem lengthy. Use the time wisely and just keep reading and asking questions as they come up.
  2. Dottie, that's great news. I wish you all the best. Do you have to get a complete unfill prior to knee surgery in case of nausea?
  3. Our esophagi exude a clear mucus in order to lubricate our throats and aid food on its way down to the stomach. When there is a blockage, that mucus has nowhere to go but up.

    I have arrived (finally)

Congrats!! I am not near my goal weight yet but the answer is obvious to me. "If ain't broken, don't fix it!" If you at comfortable restriction. Leave it there. Then give him a call if you think you need a fill.

A big Texas Howdy to you!!

I don't want to give you the wrong impression but I did not have any pain with lapband surgery. The gas was uncomfortable for 3 and a half days but not what I would consider pain.

A big Texas Howdy to you!!

Dr Kim in Colleyville is my surgeon. He has a lot of commercials on Fox and billboards all over North Texas. This made me question his competency as a surgeon as opposed to a salesman but he is one of the best. His staff is also outstanding. I don't know anybody personally that has had lapband surgery. In or out of work except for those I have met at support groups.

A big Texas Howdy to you!!

Congrats and welcome aboard!! I've heard from quite a few people that Lapband is a lot less painful than gallbladder removal. So, you should have no problem with any pain. Sometime it seems like half of the people on this site are from Texas. Of course the other half wish they were. Where you at and who's your surgeon?
  8. I've just read 3 or 4 of your posts and I can tell you without a doubt what the main problem is. It's your attitude. You have to be more positive and develop a can-do attitude. For starters, stop comparing yourself to others and STOP using the word "only!" You weigh an amazing 30 pounds less than you did 11 months ago. You should be proud! Are you eating 3 meals a day? Are you snacking between meals? Are you drinking calories? Are you drinking with meals? Are you logging everything you eat or drink? Are you exercising regularly? Are you consuming at least 50 grams of Protein a day? Are you drinking at least 64 ounces of Water daily? These are questions you have to ask yourself and if you don't like the answers; start fixing them one at a time and at your own pace. And stop using the word "ONLY" in the context of weight loss!!

    Now approaching Twoderville!

Pegge, I'm not one of the ladies except on weekends and when nobody else is looking but I may be able to help. First of all, congrats on your progress!! Second, you lost an amazing 14 pounds since surgery. I hate the word "only" in the context of losing weight. You can lose weight on liquids. So, your system isn't broken. How many meals a day are you eating? What does your average meal consist of? Are you logging everything that you eat of drink? Are you consuming at least 50 grams of Protein daily? How many carbs are you eating? Are you eating carbs at every meal? Are you drinking at least 64 ounces of Water daily? Congrats Kathy!!!

    How soon is too Soon?

The hiccups are my signal but different people have different signals. Yawn; sneeze; watery eyes; etc... Give it some time and you will recognize yours. You may have spent 2 hours in the restaurant but you should not spend more than 30 minutes eating or else it becomes grazing and if timed right you can eat forever.
  11. My weight fluctuates as much as 6 pounds a day depending on when I weigh myself. A bottle of Water is about a pound. So every time you drink a bottle of water, you gain a pound. Unless you've consumed a lot of sodium, most of that water will exit your system on your next trip to the restroom. If you are bound to get excited with these fluctations; only weigh yourself in the morning right after waking and before showering.
  12. The correct term is "bingo wings" and I am fortunate. I don't have that issue. I am picking up a lot more excess skin on my inner thighs than I imagined. Got my third fill yesterday. 9ccs in a 14cc band. I can only drink a mouthful of water at a time now and my pills came close to getting stuck this morning. I am going to eat tonight for the first time and I am kind of nervous that I may be too tight. The new PA in my surgeons office stabbed me no less than 10 times trying to get into my port. My regular does it in one shot. Leigha, if David K usually does yours, make sure he does your next.

    What an eye opener...

Congrats!!! There is nothing wrong with weighing yourself 100 times a day. Just record it once a week or once a month and you will be able to see the weight loss happening.
  14. Are you talking about gaining weight in 1 day or over the period of 9 days? If it is over the 9 days; call your nutrionist. If it is from yesterday to today; go take a piss and you'll lose it.

    So What Are the Rules?

It was apparent to me that drinking while eating was a bad idea immediately following my second fill. It seems to reconstitute the food that I just spent a lot of time chewing up and causes me to get stuck. As you said, everybody is different.

    First fill

You provide us with absolutely no information except that you had a fill. Any replies you get will be guess without at least a couple of the questions below answered. How long have you been banded? How much have you lost since you started the process? What is your height and weight? How much do you need to lose to reach your goal? How much are you exercising? How many calories are you consuming daily? Are you male or female? How old are you? How many meals are you eating? Are you snacking between meals? Are you logging your food and drink? Are you drinking at least 64 ounces of Water daily? Are you consuming at least 50 grams of Protein daily? We want to help. Give us just a tad more info and it will make it easier.

    Lots of Questions

Congrats on your weight loss! Whether you need a fill is something that only you and your surgeon or PA can answer after considering the following: How volume can you eat? How many meals a day do you eat? How long after eating are you hungry? That being said, plateaus are a normal part of the weight loss process. They can be frustrating if we let them. Are you sure you are only eating 1,000 calories a day? Are you logging your food and drink? When we estimate, we usually estimate to low. Are you drinking at least 64 ounces of Water a day? Are you consuming at least 50 grams of Protein daily? If the answer is yes to those 3 questions, try eating 200 more calories a day. It sounds backwards but the more fuel you give your body, the hotter the fire burns. If you gain after a week; cut it back down.

    So What Are the Rules?

That link doesn't include the drinking with meals rule. I think it unanimous among surgeons that bandsters should not drink with meals. However, my surgeon and PA have recently stated that it is ok to drink Water right up until mealtime.
  19. You are not alone. I couldn't wait to get stuck after reading about it for months. It took me 4 weeks and it was in public. I was excited even though it was a bit embarrassing.
  20. This is a bad idea!! I learned by experience. If you drink while eating chicken the Fluid can reconstitute that chicken you just chewed up to a paste like consistency and it will stick.

    Failing my band

You need to change your attitude. If you keep telling yourself you are failing then eventually you will fail. You are losing weight. That is great! Do the math, in other 9 months you will have lost 60 pounds at this rate. You didn't put the weight on overnight and it isn't going to come off overnight. Be patient. The fills will help. I had my surgery the day after you and am heading for fill number 3 in an hour or so. I can still suck down a 6" sub and that satisfies me for 6 or more hours. That beats the 2 12 inch subs that I would eat for lunch prior to surgery. Good luck and keep your chin up!
  22. Not necessarily. I was pretty solid during my protein shake pre-op and post-op.

    Day 2 Post OP

I was banded on Tuesday and had my dogs which weigh considerably more than your son at the dog park on Wednesday. You'll be fine.

    Please Help

If you let yourself get discouraged then you are going to lose the battle. Keep your chin up and have a positive attitude. You can do it if you try!! I lost 95 pounds in the 5 month prior to surgery just by cutting down the size of my portions and walking 30 minutes a day. Give it a shot and do NOT say you can't do it ever again.

When did you see the difference?

The photos definitely help. I am down over 130 pounds in the last 9 months and don't see it in the mirror because I look at my gorgeous face every day but when I ever put the before and after together I creamed my jeans!! This is the 101st time I have posted this but I can't get enough of it
