Heavy drinker considering surgery
btrieger replied to bayareanan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know somebody that had by-pass. He lost almost 200 pounds in a little over a year. 3 Years after that he had gained it all back thanks to Budweiser. The surgery may work for you but need to look at cutting back a little more on the alcohol. It's empty calories. All carbs and sugar. I binge every few weeks or so but not on a regular basis. Another thing to keep in mind is that alcohol causes the loss of inhibitions and if you get a good buzz on you may decide to hit the buffet. I'd definitely discuss it with a bariatric surgeon and nutritionist. -
There are women here old enough to be your mother.

Anyone have achy legs after surgery??
btrieger replied to robinbare's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cramped. Like I ran 100 miles the day before. Achy describes it best. -
Anyone have achy legs after surgery??
btrieger replied to robinbare's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Only on the 4th day post-op. I attribute it to the IV Fluid finally leaving my system. By that night I was back to normal as if the surgery never took place. -
banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
btrieger replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have an idea. Let's all file a class action suit against the makers of ours bands and our surgeons. We aren't losing as fast as we'd like and once in a while it is inconvenient. I am actually forcing myself to eat. Not that bad. I am living on yogurt; cottage cheese; protein shakes and turkey chili. -
Once your banded can you ever eat normally again??
btrieger replied to spoiltmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll eat normal for the rest of your life. We didn't get fat by eating "normal." We gorged ourselves. Bypass patients lose weight quickly but as there stomach stretches the weight loss slows. Those that do as they're told, don't have a problem with their stomach's stretching. With the band, there are adjustments and we see our surgeons a lot more often. As long as we do what we're told and are honest with the surgeon during follow-ups. The correct adjustments are made and we are better off that bypass patients. -
Should I buy a juicer or blender???
btrieger replied to Nicole74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally think that juicers are a waste of money. The blender does the same thing and you can pour that through a strainer. I used my food processor to mushify things. -
When should I worry???????????
btrieger replied to kliv2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's absolutely normal. I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts to hurt or you get nauseous. Try a daily stool softener if you want to help it along. -
Have you been keeping your fat clothing?
btrieger replied to LapNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keeping? Over 130 pounds down and I still wear it. I get yelled at by the fashion police all of the time but I ain't tossing out good clothes. -
Slimming & PB's
btrieger replied to warriors_journey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It feels like you are a vampire and Van Helsing just drove a wooden stake through your heart. You feel like you can't breath but if you don't panic, you will realize there is nothing wrong with your breathing. The sliming is fun, it looks like jellyfish swimming around in the toilet. -
A big Texas Howdy to you!!
btrieger replied to dry_gulch_02's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Where were you at the support meeting last night? Late edit: Oops!! Never mind. I forgot for a second that they didn't even tell me about the meetings until after surgery. Forget that I said it is the 4th Thursday at 6:30 in Colleyville. -
Looking good guys. Huge differences!

Understood. We'll still be there when you go public.

btrieger replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I need some removed. I am getting stuck on yogurt It's going to be another liquid weekend. Maybe I should panic and look for sympathy in the forum  -
I don't do Twitter but there are a bunch of us on Facebook. If you send a friend request please note where you're from. I have lots of stranger friends for Farmville. triegerb@verizon.net

Howdy! Banded March 2nd. Down 36 pounds since. Got my 3rd fill on Wednesday and am getting stuck on cottage cheese and yogurt. I think I need an unfill on Monday but I should lose a few pounds this weekend. The treadmill isn't all that boring if you play music really loud.

How important are the rules really?
btrieger replied to SavvyCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here's a step by step: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/ticker-tutorial-pictures-41782/ I have no clue. I had a hematoma and a huge bruise at the spot where I was injected with the blood thinner prior to surgery. It went away after a month or so. -
What other expenses are their besides the surgery?
btrieger replied to spoiltmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein shakes and new clothes. I am almost 4 months out and haven't had to take any Vitamins except for the daily I already do every day. Your life is not going to change drastically. -
Embarrassing Situation
btrieger replied to mizofatso's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure he is talking kilos. Only American's talk in old-fashioned measurements. :bored: I'd prefer to weigh 111 instead of 234 but alas, I'm American. Mizo, Sounds like you're going to have to find a plastic surgeon if you really want to get rid of your moobs. -
And it doesn't come out of your nose like vomit either :bored:

Throw a chicken breast into the blender or food processor, mix in some fat free Miracle Whip and you have yourself pureed food chalk full of Protein. What is it about protein shakes you don't like? Is it the flavor? Texture? Look? I could live on Optifast for the rest of my life if need be.

Welcome aboard! Basing your opinion of this forum on one thread out of 110,876 is a bit narrow-minded isn't it? Before I knew that the OP was trolling, I thought she was trying to justify her bad behavior. I think the first reply was right on. There are plenty of people with actual issues that take priority above those causing the problem to themselves and knowing it. That being said, if you don't feel like posting; you'll do just fine. I don't think there is anything regarding the lapband that hasn't already been discussed here in detail. -
You have to consume more calories than that. Even if you aren't hungry; drink a few Protein shakes a day. You can screw up your metabolism by starving yourself. Your hunger will return but if you stay positive if won't be as bad as some people whine about.

There is nothing wrong with snacking as long as you keep it light. There isn't a specific number of carbs that you should have but you want to keep the number as low as possible without torturing yourself. A lot of people eat bread or potatoes with every meal. That is too much. Since you said you cut both out that isn't an issue. It is very important that you consume at least 50 grams of protein a day and drink at least 64 ounces of water. If you're not keeping a food diary, you should start. It will show you where you may need to consume more protein. You can do this for free at: Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate Kathy, I started at 365 and questioned whether I'd ever see 250 either. I am at 234 now and confident that I will hit my goal of 170.

Your pouch is not expanding to accommodate the excess food. You don't have tight restriction yet so most of it is dropping right through. I am not sure about the women's stomach question but my guess would be that they have the same size organs as men. Well, most organs. :bored:
