About 20 minutes after surgery.
-
Doesn't sound right to me if you are weighing yourself in pounds. I was told by multiple nutritionists and my surgeon that women should consume at least 50 grams of Protein and men 68 grams. PS. I had a fill since I posted that last post and can barely eat a 1/2 cup now. Nor am I hungry. I am eating just to get my protein in.

Heavy drinker considering surgery
btrieger replied to bayareanan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks! I have printed this off and will talk to both my nutritionist and surgeon about it. I love to drink every couple of weeks but even more, I eat spicy food every day of the week. I asked about both and was told that there would be no issues. coffee is also on this list for causing erosion. How many drink a pot a day without issue. As are vinegar and soy sauce. -
Congrats!! It will work if you keep that attitude. Your hunger will return but you won't be as ravenous as you may have been in the past. Just keep the portions small and chew until there is no flavor left. Good luck.

Thinking about a small unfill
btrieger replied to patsal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am kind of at the same point but I can drink in the morning. By afternoon I can eat solid foods. It is funny not being hungry isn't it? Even though you're not hungry please try and get at least 50 grams of protein in to stave malnutrition. Good luck and keep us updated. -
No Protein is the problem. Are you on liquids or "clear liquids" specifically. If it is all liquids, you want to include either Protein shakes in your diet or mix Protein powder into some of the liquids. You should be getting at least 50 grams of protein a day.

When or when will I learn?
btrieger replied to Windus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It takes some of us time. I still am trying to get over the "clean your plate" mentality. My latest fill is helping with that 3 or so ounces and I'm full. -
I usually have answers but this one is killing me. I got my third fill on Wednesday. Nine ccs in a 14 cc band. Drank shakes Wednesday and Thursday. I had to drink a lot slower than I have been because I could feel the restriction. I had to slow down my Water guzzling too. Come Friday morning I had a 6 ounce yogurt and about 2 ounces of cottage cheese. I got stuck about halfway through that. For lunch I had a half can of Hormel turkey chili. I got through most of that before I got stuck. I finished the chili for dinner without an issue. This morning I try the yogurt and cottage cheese again and get stuck again. Chili again for lunch and stuck again. I just ate 2 boneless buffalo wings and about 2 ounces of potato salad without any problems. The soft stuff is getting stuck and the real food isn't. And, I am getting stuck. It isn't a matter of eating too fast or too much. Should I think about an unfill or just stay away from soft foods?

What are you eating? Are you getting plenty of protein? That is what will stick around; keep your appetite down and burn the fat.

Thanks folks. I am having no problem eating at night. So, I think I am just going to drink Optifast for Breakfast. Fortunately, I love the stuff. I have an appointment for another fill on July 8th and if I still get stuck on yogurt in the morning, I am going to ask to be unfilled .5 cc or so. Thanks for the replies!!! Bob

Thanks!! I have an appointment for a fill on July 8th. I am not starving. So, I will try and stick it out until then. Reading some of the posts in the forum is making me realize how lucky I am that I not only like Optifast shakes, I love them. -
It just takes practice or getting stuck. You'll learn quick if it causes you to get stuck. It only took me one time to break the habit.

I thought a public poll may be a good way of keeping everyone's dates straight. * Please DO NOT respond to the poll if your surgery is not in March 2010.

Thanks. I really have to get that spreadsheet together so we can all show off. -
I can't help there. I love Protein shakes. Hopefully someone else can help. There are lots of people here that hate protein shakes.

Hi, Somebody in Roanoke sent me a private message this morning saying that she was thinking about putting together a support group to meet for coffee. Whether it is me or somebody else, I'm sure we will have a group or groups around here soon. Bob -

Weird thing; I hate fried chicken and potato salad last night without issue. Soft food gets stuck and normal food isn't a problem. I don't know whether to unfill some or not. I guess only time will tell. Meanwhile, I will become the incredible shrinking man. -
Absolutely not! But don't concentrate on the calories as much as Protein. You have to get at least 50 grams of protein a day in order to heal your body and burn fat. The calories will come with the protein.

Fears of failure
btrieger replied to Adventure Girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't torture or starve yourself. This is not a diet; diets end and they suck too! Eat what you are comfortable with if you are losing weight. The amount will diminish as you get fills. -
How does smoking affect you pre-surgery?
btrieger replied to Aaron50's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The lack of oxygen slows the healing processing as well. It's not worth taking the risk especially if you aren't addicted. I quit before surgery and unfortunately, picked it up again a couple months after. -
Thanks! I hope it's just swelling. I've lost more than 2 pounds since Wednesday and haven't been hungry. The weight's been falling off for 9 months eating 4 or 5 times this. I'm going to look like a bobble-head soon. I am eating just to make sure I get 70 grams of Protein.
