Am I thinking everything wrong?
btrieger replied to Corrina12's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Is it more than many? Yes. GingerJane, You have to look at that glass as half-full if you are going to compare to others. You are doing great! -
This is a NO-NO and something you will have to get over if you want the lapband to work. One of those rules I mentioned is "eating only 3 meals a day and having a light snack in between if necessary."

There's a much easier way. Check out this link. It gives step by step instructions a couple of times: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/ticker-tutorial-pictures-41782/ If it don't work for you let me know and I will help you out. Good luck! Bob

Am I thinking everything wrong?
btrieger replied to Corrina12's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
In a word, "YES!" You are doing right but thinking wrong. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was your weight. Just keep doing what you are doing and try and keep a positive attitude. I suggest taking a few pictures now. They will come in handy in a month or so when you are having the same thoughts. Then you can take a couple of more pictures and compare them to the ones you take now. You will see a difference and it will help keep your attitude positive. Good luck! Bob -
BMI over 50 - In it for the long haul
btrieger replied to wanna.b.healthy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A positive attitude is a stronger tool than the lapband and when you put them together; they work wonders! Keep on reading here, you will find that those that are successful are positive. The attitude does not come from being successful. The success comes from being positive. -
The world would be a better place.

"We want you to lose weight because that means we can deny you coverage"
btrieger replied to gogtigirlgo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked on many occasions which weight was submitted to the insurance company and the answer was always, "the starting weight." I lost 95 pounds between consultation and surgery. I went from a 55 BMI to 39 in that time and had no problems getting approval. Work with your surgeons office and let them talk to the insurance company. -
banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
btrieger replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, Just checking in. I am still alive; kicking and farmvilling. After 5 weeks of bouncing from 220 to 223 lbs; I finally made double digits. I was 217 pounds this morning which translates to 98 K! I am considering moving to another country so I can be double digits like my IQ. -
Congrats!!!!

The lapband is a tool that will help you control your portions but it doesn't keep you from eating the wrong foods. You sound like you have a good track record of being able to lose weight. If you are willing to follow a few basic rules, the lapband can help you keep the weight off. Talk to a bariatric surgeon. Initial consultations are usually free. Good luck! Bob

Congrats!!! Keep your goals reachable and in no time you'll be at your final goal.

Wanna, Congrats on your decision and attitude. It doesn't have to be tough. Try not to think about what you are missing and look to the light at the end of the tunnel. I did nothing but Optifast shakes for 4 weeks and enjoyed it the whole time. I didn't let myself have the attitude that it was missing out on something. I concentrated on how much they tasted like delicious milk shakes. Good luck and keep us informed. Bob -
This a simple poll. I am not trying to start any kind of philosophical debate here. There is no need to qualify you answer with a comment. I don't expect anyone to be converted here. I have tried to keep this short and inoffensive. If you are offended, get therapy immediately.

Discouraged - Don't think I was ready for the band
btrieger replied to Ms_C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First off, congrats on your progress! 16 Pounds in 10 weeks is great. That makes for about 82 pounds in a year. Exercise and working out are not the same thing. I'm down 145 pounds in 11 months and have not stepped foot inside a gym in over 5 years. However, I do try and walk for at least 5 hours (300 minutes) a week. As somebody mentioned earlier, it is nice to get out and see what is actually going on in the neighborhood; seeing people and things I don't see speeding by in my car while watching the road. Start small. Try and walk for a 150 minutes a week; splitting it up any way you please. Do you have a dog or does your lifestyle leave you time to care properly for one. They are a great inspiration to walk. I have 2 dogs that I enjoy walking with nearly as much as they enjoy walking with me. PS. It's too late for doubts honey. The band is in you. Now is the time to learn to enjoy it. -
Can you have a hernia and not know it??

Do you regret choosing the Band over Bypass?
btrieger replied to che4u's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well put but you left out the mortality rate and the fact that even though bypass patients post impressive numbers for the first year or so; more than half of them gain almost every pound back. You couldn't pay me enough to have bypass or the sleeve. -
Can you have a hernia and not know it??
btrieger replied to zeniada's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can definitely have a hernia and not know. Many hiatal hernias go undetected for people's whole life. Repairing the hernia is probably covered by your insurance if done in the US. Call your insurance company and find out if they cover hernia repair. Then, you may be able to get banded for a fraction of the cost while they are in repairing the hernia. -

Discouraging friends anyone?
btrieger replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would tell them that it is not the surgery that is bad; their mother just happens to be a clueless idiot. That would definitely either change the subject fast or make them leave. Either way, you wouldn't have to hear the discouraging remarks. -
Lo mein isn't a good idea. The noodles are not chew friendly swallow the noodles almost whole. If you are going to eat it, I suggest cutting the noodles very very small before eating. On the other hand, you could always throw the lo main in the blender and make it a blended food.

Hi, my name is Bob and I am a scale whore. :cursing: You don't have to get away from the scale, you just have to become accustomed to the fluctuations. Weigh as often as you'd like (have to) but only record your weight once a week.

I ordered an extra large pizza on Friday afternoon. Had a slice when it arrived. Another slice Friday night. 2 slices on Saturday and just finished another slice. Half of the pizza is gone and I may have to throw the other half out. A year ago I would have finished that same pizza in one sitting and had a sandwich too.
