  1. Yoda, I can finally relate. It took 6 days after my second fill for my band to let me know it's actually there.
  2. Well I haven't talked about my second fill until now. It will be 1 week tomorrow since my second fill. I have noticed more restriction some days and some days, HOLY COW!!!, can't get much down. I had a meeting in Ottawa today, so I had Breakfast before I left. I had 1 egg and 1 piece of toast, it went down OK. I left early so that I could do a little bit of shopping, went to costco and then the St Laurent Shopping Mall. I was starved by then so I went to the food court. I walked around for a while trying to decide what I could probably tolerate. I decided on a chicken slouvaki. Grilled chicken, with a Greek salad and it was served with rice. Well... I had the first bite of chicken... then a second and then the pain started. I barely made it to the washroom. This cycle continued for about 1 hour, the slime and the pbs. I didn't know if I could make the meeting, but luckily it did subside and I was able to make it. This has never happened to me. The thoughts that were going through my head were, I did not overeat, I chewed well, so why is this happening? I could hear Dr. M saying to me that the objective was to sustain satiety for longer periods of time. I was starved before I ate, so why was this happening? OK I've been traumatized. This was a first of many more (probably). I hope not. This would have been very embarrassing if it was a meeting that lunch was provided. I can hear myself, "I will have to be excused so that I can go slime and pb for a while". "How long? I have no idea, last time it lasted an hour." After this experience, I will be reluctant to eat before meetings.

    Oprah

That is why MOST people have gastric surgeries. Piss me off!" I agree that was just plain ignorant and rude of Oprah to have said that. What was her highest weight? I know that she was a least lbs, at least that's what I remember. I wonder how she would feel if someone where to ask her how anyone could put her in television at that weight? My question: She made the claim that people who have WLS can substitute eating with a different addiction. Has anyone had this experience? I saw some replies such as 1. shopping 2. exercising 3. Hobbies I haven't heard anything horrible here. Are we afraid to say or it happens so infrequently. Did Oprah sensationalize the few people it happened to to scare people away from WLS. I beleive she quoted that it happens to about 30% of people. What do you all think?

    Oprah

So glad to hear your point of view on this subject. You seem to have it together, 131 lbs lost. I applaud you. You are an inspiration to all of us. And maybe your right about how quickly the weight is loss. The lap band was the better choice. Recently, I was doubting my decision not to per-sue the bypass option because my weight loss is sooooo slow.

    Oprah

At one point during the show, (don't get me wrong, I really like Oprah and all of the good she does) it almost seemed like she was saying we should have been able to get to our goal weight like she did. Let's face it, who has access to the best psychiatrist, nutritionist and personal trainers like she does.
  8. Anyone see the Oprah show today? It was about gastric bypass and how once someone can no longer overeat, they substitute the addiction with another, like alcohol or sex or some other addiction. The point being that you must deal with why you have a weight problem before you should ever consider weight loss surgery because you may get a "transference addiction". Carny Wilson was a guest. She talked about her alcohol addiction after her surgery and how she overcame that. Has anyone experienced anything like this after lap band surgery? PS I've posted the same thing on the General discussion panel. I thought it would be interesting to see the replies.

Mandi, do not go shopping at Le Château. My niece who is a size 0 can shop at Le Château. That's considered, according to her, a Junior store, so the sizes are a lot smaller. At one time, I could fit in a size 12 at Sears but at Le Château I could not put one leg in a size 12. Beware!!!

WOW, are we related. Cheese curds, you have not tasted cheese curds until you have tasted St Albert's curds (a local cheese factory). My dh says that the curds are good because they have a higher percentage of cream in them. He should know, he used to be a Cheese Maker. Stinky Stilton blue cheese, Brie, Camembert, melted Gruyère on a French Onion soup etc.. are all good and yes I agree the smoked cheese is for the birds. I have to admit, I never deeped de curds in de maple syrup at de cabane a sucre.

    A Canadian "NSV" Thread

We used to have a Cotton Ginny but they closed. I now have to go to Ottawa if I want to shop there so when I'm there I usually buy a lot. Something about the comfort of cotton....
  12. WTG Yoda, 3 lbs in one week!! 2teens, I want to be there someday.:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
  13. One of the reasons I did not tell anyone (except for my sisters and my dh) about the surgery was that I did not want to be judged. Only the people closest to me know the struggles I have gone through and still am going through. As for everyone else, it is none of their business. If someone where to find out and was critical, I would be very upset.
  14. Just found this posted by Beth in Seattle. Thought I would share it with the Canadian group. I have a friend who tells a little anecdote when someone mentions WLS being the easy way out. She says "if you were in a burning building and you ran out through the front door rather than running upstairs and jumping out the window would anyone say you took the easy way out?"

All this talk about slow cookers. Yesterday, I dug my crock pot out of the archives and made a pot roast. Comfort food for a snowy day!

No Mookie, no English degree here, just a Lab Tech. I think your idea to create a book of musings is great. I really enjoy reading the post and was pleasantly surprised to find intelligent, funny, and inspiring people here. Sometimes I find myself laughing out loud reading some of the post. As for the center fold, I have the perfect model, my ex-boss, but you would have to settle for full blown halitosis.
  21. Thought I had the size resolved. I went back to edit the post, but for some strange reason that wasn't an option. OK now I see it, there is an option to preview changes. Everyday there is something new to learn.
  22. These are pictures I just took looking out my front door!
  23. Hello to all our Patients: The Surgical Weight Loss Centre would like our patients to know that we have trained physicians or nurses to adjust our bands in the following cities: Vancouver Calgary Winnipeg Ottawa Halifax These nurses and physicians have been supplied with the proper Huber tip needles and have been trained personally by Dr. Cobourn. They will adjust a patient from The Surgical Weight Loss Centre for a nominal charge. We have trained these individuals to adjust Inamed Lap Bands only and we will take responsibility for the care they provide. We feel that this service is important to minimize the inconvenience of travel back to the clinic in Mississauga for our out of province patients. It is important to stress that The Surgical Weight Loss Centre continues to follow the progress of all our patients. If you would like see our associate in one of these cities for an adjustment, we ask that you contact the nurses at the clinic (nurses@lapband.ca) to discuss the timing and amount of adjustment. We will then send an adjustment request to the appropriate associate and give you their contact details so you can set up an appointment to see them. The associate will then give us feedback that the fill was completed successfully. We will continue to train associates in other Canadian cities when the number of patients in a particular city or area reaches a level that the associate can be expected to maintaine their skills. If you have any questions about this service, please do not hesitate to contact us. The Surgical Weight Loss Centre
  24. My fill today went better than great. One stab and it was all over. I could have kissed Dr M, I was so happy...I now have 1.5cc in my 4cc band. Can't wait to see if I will get results with this amount. I talked with Dr M. again about getting fills in Ottawa and Dr. M said that he would rather I have them done in Mississauga with him. Sorry Neenagh, but I really think this guy lurves me..... So sorry.... Seriously, now I would feel guilty if I insisted on going to Ottawa now, but it's such a long drive......maybe next time I will take the train.... While I was waiting to see Dr. M, I had a chance to speak with Tammy. She really is very nice. She probably was just way too busy to make conversation the last time I was there. It was a great day even with the rain.
