I spanked my kids when they were young, now that they are older (19 & 17) I still hit my 17 yr old when he get mouthy. He of course weighs me by about 80 lbs. But, do believe that discipline to the bottom is necessary when they are old enough to understand why they are getting spanked.

Spiegel only does surgery in Houston too.

UGH is a great facility, I wasn't a patient there but from people i speak to they love it. And actually Dr Spiegel is doing his fills in his office again. Unless you had surgery @ Physician's Surgicenter, otherwise you would have them there if your surgery was at Surgicenter. If at any other hospital then you would come into his office for your fills.

I do not work for him, and again I do apologize. I don't represent him in any way, I was making a statement. Don't bash a surgeon just because he isn't what YOU THOUGHT he should be. He is an excellent surgeon, although his bedside manner according to some of the other people on this thread leaves a lot to be desired, but usually the way a Dr conducts himself in the Consultation is usually the way he would conduct himself in the OR. Was he cordial, talkative, ect in the consultation? With me when I had my surgery the consultation was all of about 3 min. So, no I didn't expect any more from him in the OR. Sorry if this offended, but you know that Opinions are like other parts of your anatomy? Everyone has at least one, you're entitled to your opinion & I'm also entitled to mine. Again, I hope you find a Dr that fits better to your liking. Good luck!

Texas Cutie, I apologize if you were offended. I stand by what I say though, Dr Spiegel is available 24/7 for his patients as well. His cell phone # is located on the paperwork that you sign, also if you were to call the office during or after business hours his cell # is also available from either his office staff or on the after business hours recording. Sorry that your experience with him was so terrible. I hope you can find another surgeon to accomodate you. Good luck to you

T exasCutie, If you were experiencing problems, Dr SPiegel IS AVAILABLE 24/7 on his personal cell phone. My care from him has been fine, whether I work for him or not is not even a factor in this case. If you were in such pain then you should have ASKED for him specifically. Sorry you feel that your care was so lousy. But, maybe what you should do is re think what you say,

Carol, my personal experience with Dr Spiegel has been nothing but great. I had my band back in Mar 06, I lost my ideal weight the first 5 months after surgery. I have actually lost a little more since Christmas. I wouldn't trade him for anything, the only thing I regret is not doing the surgery sooner. I wouldn't call it a cattle call persay, he is very down to the basics of surgery, he has done more than 5000 surgeries & yes it is a classroom setting, the consult with him is maybe 2-4 min just depending on the amount of questions you may have for him (medical) etc, I haven't met Dr SPivak nor have I attended any of his seminars/etc. I feel I made the right choice!

Also after a fill, it seems that pushes any poop still around somewhere down there down & OUT! At least with me!

From what I understand UNIVERSITY GENERAL HOSPITAL will honor your IN NETWORK benefits. I would recommend EVERYONE I speak to to use UGH instead of 12 Oaks. It's a NEWER facility, cleaner & a State of the Art facility.The people are more professional in My opinion & it's like the Ritz Carlton of Hospitals. If u don't mind me asking who is the Dr who did the surgery for you?

Not to sound like a broken record but, again Dr Spiegel did my surgery & the only problem I had was gas from NOT moving around like I was told to do. I haven't had any problems with anything, I've been pretty compliant with what I was told. As far as his fills,he is very good & very accurate. He is in & out in a matter of seconds!

In response to the NEVER having carbonated drinks. That isn't true, although I have tried to pour the drink into a glass & let all the FIZZ/BUBBLES disappear. Also, in order to get the MAXIMUM weight loss you should really follow the book/instructions that the Dr office gave you. I had my surgery 7 months ago & have NOT had any problems. I have already lost 55 lbs & still counting. Try to follow the rules, although at times it might be difficult.:clap2:

My thoughts exactly. why tell your boss, it's really Nobody's business that U don't want to know!

Some of us tried all the other options to lose weight. People think that we became FAT overnight, for some of us it was a long process. Although I myself have been fighting to lose weight for almost 20 yr. The only option left for me was Weight loss surgery. So, keep your head up & stay positive.

Well again, the only reason that I give out Dr Spiegel's phone # & website is because an email is alot of times Not very personal. Whereas a phone call to the office would probably answer ALOT more questions then an email. In reference to giving out Medical Advice, The ONLY person giving out MEDICAL INFORMATION in our office is OUR Nurse! I don't give out any Clinical/Medical information to anyone because I don't have that kind of knowledge.

This has gotten too petty & I'm a better person than that! So, I have expressed my thoughts on all of this. I am VERY HAPPY with my surgery & wouldn't change a thing about it. So, everyone is different; different opinions, different everything. So, As the BIGGER PERSON that I am, I will walk away from this conversation & consider it finished. U can take it anyway you want! Besides, if YOU can't fight your own battles, I don't need to bother with you. I also don't have all day to toss insults back & forth. I believe in MY Dr & that's all that matters to me. Everyone else's opinion is IRRELEVANT to ME! Smile, because you DO get TLC @ TLC!

And in response to the ROBOT comment, we are highly trained personnel with years of experience in the MEdical field. On occasion we have to deal with Unprofessional people. We provide a service to the community, I guess when u start losing weight & looking good. Well, you just might forget who did U the favor. I mean, this is an elective surgery for some, emergency for others. Please consider that before attacking anyone about anything. Have a wonderful day!:nervous

No offense, BUT anytime I am in fear that something might be TERRIBLY wrong with me, or something within MY OWN body doesn't FEEL RIGHT. Because no one knows your body better than you, well then I would have been in the ER. Understandably it could have been related to the lapband, it could have NOT been related. But, why wait until the WORST THING to happen to you before U UUUUU react. Understandably yes, it might have been related to the band, know one can know for sure. But, again: Anyone with COMMON SENSE would know that IF IT DOESN"T FEEL RIGHT, either go to the ER or call your FP.

Was the band removed due to a malfunction? Why was the band removed if u don't mind my asking. I don't consider a waste of money if U didn't follow the directions in order to lose the weight well then it's your own fault. Like I said I know of several people who have had the lap band & HAVEN'T experienced ANY problems. Again, every situation is different!

I apologize if u think I'm advertising. I just feel so great with my weight loss that I want to shout it from the mountaintops, becuase I have been so successful with my Dr.

Just to set the record straight, I WAS Dr Spiegel's Patient BEFORE I became HIs employee.So, call me impartial, but I do think he is an excellent surgeon. Just ask anyone that has had the surgery that work at the one of the biggest hospital's in Houston. METHODIST. This is strictly my Opinion, as you have your own. But you know what they say about opinions & other parts of your anatomy. Everyone has ONE!

Dr SPiegel seminar IS FREE. It's the consultation with him (ONE ON ONE) that he collects the Co-pay for. It's an office visit, so of course we expect payment.

Spiegel did my lapband in March 2006, I have lost to date 55 lbs. I can honestly say that I loved him & the work he has done for me. I had my Lap band six months ago. My recommendation in the HOuston area or ANYWHERE in the country is Dr Felix Spiegel. My recovery time was only 1 day. I had my procedure on a MOnday & was back to work that Wed. As far as what my limitations were, just NO heavy lifting the first 30 days. He conducts FREE seminars 2X a week & every other Saturday. Call his office & see what is convenient for you.
