I had my lap band surgery (plus hiatal hernia repair) on 12/03/2009. (Who knew I had a hiatal hernia?) I flew to Detroit by myself on 12/02, had the surgery on 12/03, and flew back to Seattle on 12/05. It was worth the flight to save $7000. Dr. Webber was very nice, but I sure only saw him for about 2 minutes before my surgery. Still, my scars are very tiny, and my experience was very good. I am going to see a local surgeon, Dr. Neal, for my followup. He charges $17,000 for surgery, which I did not have (I am completely self pay). I would recommend either of these surgeons to anyone, and I would sure recommend lap band. I have not had my first fill yet (that happens Jan. 12, 2010), but I have still lost 27 pounds, and that is over Thanksgiving and Christmas! If you are in doubt about having this surgery, don't be. It is not a "magic cure," but it gives you the tools you need to make successful--and permanent--weight loss happen if you are willing to make the necessary lifestyle changes.
