Yes, I believe many of us are in "Bandster Hell". I knew this period would be difficult and tried to prepare myself mentally for it. We are back to "dieting" before our first fills. As I posted in December Bandsters I saw my doc yesterday and had a 2 and half hour nutrition class. She said that protein is key. I made these suggestions before but will repeat them for those who have not read before (have added some to it now). Some good mushie foods for the transition period are: scrammbled eggs with cheese (use one whole eggs and two egg whites...calories folks), Greek style yogart sprinkled with honey, a half of a banana, a baked yam (bake it a long time), Cream of Wheat (add unflavored protein powder), cottage cheese, string cheese. These are just a few suggestions to offer help. Remember to keep hydrated and COUNT your calories. Drink lots of water. I flavor mine with Crystal Lite on the Go. And I walk every day for half an hour. Hope this helps!!!

    December Bandsters 2009

Welcome Christie, New Joy and Pam!!! Yesterday was my two week check up. Everything went well! I can now start transitioning to real food!!! Yeah!!! I'm to start with mushies. Things like cottage cheese, refried beans, a half of a banana, scrammbled eggs, Greek style yogart were all suggested. Then I am to start trying real food. By the time of my first fill I am supposed to have tried all foods. I am to try one new food at a time. My class was 2 and half hours long followed by my check up. Basically my doc gave me the green light to try anything, but to transition my new stomach slowly and I got two thumbs up!!! Great Expectation--you are very sweet!!! Thank you. Hugs to you!!!:thumbup::smile:

Mine was sooooooooo big he took pictures of it. So I have pictures of my band!!!
  4. The doc says I can start real foods. I had a 2 and half hour nutrition class and she checked my stiches. All was good. I've lost 9 lbs. since surgery. They want me on all foods by the time they try and fill me. She also said no more Volterin for now but if I really need it to take Prilosec with it.

Dear Thinme, I was told that they could not fill you until the fourth week because your stiches might break. I believe we are all in "Bandster Hell".:frown::thumbup:

Dear Great, You need to up your protein and drink 64 oz. of fluids a day. I, too, have had little restriction since the beginning. I started mushies early on. Some suggestions I have for you are: scarmmbled eggs, Cream of Wheat (add unflavored protein powder while steaming the milk), creamed soups (again, add protein powder), a half of a banana, a baked yam (bake it a long time), SF pudding, Greek style yogart. These are just some suggestions. Don't eat too much and count your calories. Hope this helps. Best wishes!!!

I developed a pain between my breast bone. I stopped taking the Volterin (pure ibuprofen) and started on Prilosec. The pain went away almost immediately. But I wonder if I've done damage now. I go to the doc today and will ask. I want to be sure there's no damage. Thanks for the info!!!
  11. I noticed that you have had your fills slowly over time and have been succesful. I think that's the way I want to do this also. You should be very proud!!! Congrats to you!!

  12. I am 11 days out at age 50 and went (and stood in lines) for Sherlock Holmes on Christmas! I went to church and Target by myself today. I would tell your friend something. Like the other's said you will need breaks and rest. Have a fun trip!!!
  13. Thanks for the tip on the ibuprofen. I am stopping the Volteren until i hear from my doctor tomorrow!

I purchased a Protein Whey unflavored powder today at GNC. One scoop is 110 cal and has 21 gm of Protein. I added some to my daily lunch of my regular protein drink. You can add it to Chicken broth or creamy soups. It is wonderful!!!

Best Wishes to both of you!!! You will be fine. You may want to pack GasX strips. They really helped me. I asked for one as soon as I saw my hubby and did not have that bad of gas pains. I had some. Expect some in your shoulder or neck. It's a sharp pain. Many suffer from this right after this surgery. Anyway, I will pray for both of you tomorrow and until you post that your home recovering. Let us know!!!:thumbup:

Start experimenting with creamed soups or cream of wheat. I have and it really helps. But be careful to count calories. I also tried scrammbled eggs and half of a banana that I really chewed up. It all went down okay and no gas or anything. Just be really careful!!! Watch out for slider foods.

    December Delights 2009

Because of complications I have no fluid in my band. Therefore, little restriction. I know everyone says, "Follow your doctors orders!!!" I couldn't. So I did a few days of protein shakes and sllllllllllllllllowly introduced some mushies. For example...creamed soups, applesauce. I know these are slider foods and was very careful. Only a serving here or there. Now, 10 days out I had Cream of Wheat made with milk for the protein for breakfast. I will have Greek syle yogart for snack and a protein shake made with fruit for my lunch. I am losing weight but it isn't falling off of me. I don't want that at all. I want to lose slowly. For dinner last night I tried some really soft fish and a part of a mushed up yam. But count the calories. You must be careful. Oh also....keep up with your fluids...it makes you feel full. Hope this helps!

Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig both work. But you have to follow the plan. No, I quit now that I'm banded but really did like the program. The only reason I quit is because now I have a support group through my surgeon's office. Too many meetings !!! But I would recommend WW to anyone. They were wonderful to me and I lost weight.

I have been like that since the day after surgery. But I have held on to my diet and been good. The weight is coming off slowly. Maybe you can get a fill tomorrow. Hope all goes well for you.
  21. Thanks for this post. I was feeling badly about Creamed Soups and Cream of Wheat. I'm 10 days out but had all the Fluid from my band removed the day after surgery. I have stuck to my diet and the weight is coming off but I did cheat a little. I have also tried scrammbled eggs and a half of a banana. Both were chewed and chewed. We must listen to our bands though and know when your full or hungry.

    Food addict/ post op cheating...

I am 10 days out of surgery. I had to have all the Fluid removed from my band the day after surgery. From the beginning I had little restriction. But I do have it and know when I'm hungry. The first week I did Protein shakes twice a day. Early on I had the creamed soups and applesauce. I am now able to do Cream of Wheat and scrammbled eggs (not at the same time, though). I am still on a strick diet and do have a Protein shake at least once a day with fruit in it. But I have been very careful and weigh myself every day. I do 30 minutes of walking every day. I am doing well. I am healing nicely. And, most importantly, losing weight. To the thread starter: Be kind to your body. No more Doritos (for now) and your body will begin to shrink and you will feel a whole lot better. Best wishes to you.
  23. There is a thread in Pre Op called December Bandsters 2009 and a thread in Post Op called December Delights. You should read those. It will give you a lot of insight as to what's happening and, who knows, you might make a friend or two. There is also a Group, under the link Communites to Social Groups: December Bandsters. Hope this helps and Happy New Year...also Welcome!!!
  24. Cool! I've been thinking about you. I haven't been on in a couple of days. But thought of you over the holidays. Glad to hear your fine!!!

    December Delights 2009

Oh now...the confessions begin!!! I had to have all the fluid removed from my band due to constant nausea and not being able to keep any thing down, the day after my surgery! I'm 10 days out. After a couple of hours the nausea went away. From then on I can say that it's been smooth sailing!!! I have been eating protein shakes, Greek Yogart, (the last three days) Cream of Wheat, and SF pudding. I have also tried scrammbled eggs with milk added, and a half of a banana. But I only eat when I'm truely hungry. I am walking every day for 30 min. a day. And the weight is coming off!!! That last part is real important to me and to all of you. It's not pouring off of me but it's coming off somewhat slowly. I have been doing Weight Watchers and just the preop diet before that. Anyway, that's my confession. I guess I'm doing okay!!! Follow up at Dr.s on Monday... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of my friends out there...
