    December Delights 2009

I am just riding out this long journey until my first fill. I got really tired of being hungry. You know, before the band you have to starve yourself. I had been starving since August. So, I'm not overeating, just maintaining. Remember I had all the fluid removed from my band the day after surgery. So, I also have nooooooooooooooo restriciton. I eat sensibly but have not lost any weight. I'm not fretting over this either. My band is in place and I will continue to lose weight but need some restriction. My first fill is Jan. 21st and my doc said that she will put back the fluid that was removed and then some. Thanks for asking about me. I've been reading all your posts just haven't posted myself. I'm not losing so I guess I didn't feel part of the gand anymore.

I took NSAIDs at first, not knowing they are bad for your new stomach. I got a burning sensation but only after 10 straight days of it (I have arthritis). Then I figured it out. I don't think one or two will hurt you. Best wishes!!!

    December Bandsters 2009

Yes, I'm having trouble also. I believe we are in Bandster Hell; a period when your swelling is down and you can't get a fill yet. Just sweat it out and maintain until your first fill. That is what I'm doing. Keep your protein up and drink lots of water. Oh and I chew a lot of gum...lol
  6. I had one appointment 2 weeks after my surgery and my next one will be for the first fill the third week of January. My two week appointment included a nut class that lasted 2 and half hours!

  7. Welcome back! We missed you!!! When is your first fill? Mine isn't until the third week of Jan. I don't know if I can wait that long. I drink wine every night too. I looooove it. I try to stick with one glass. How many calories does it have?

Yep, Yep and Yep! This is me too. I gained 2 pounds since I started back on solids. So, today I start to log my food and count prot. and calories. I will not go back. I don't care if I'm starving until I get to my sweet spot. My first fill isn't until the 18th and that may only give me a little relief. So, Back to dieting 101!!! I'm gald I'm not suffering alone but sorry for you. Welcome to Bandster Hell. Boy do I sound pessimistic or what? Oh well! Hugs to you!!!:blushing::frown::thumbup:

    I will find out.
  14. Just wanted you to know that you're posts have inspired me to start walking. I started Thanksgiving at 10 min a pop. I need knee replacement but started anyway. Even when I got home from the hospital I walked up and down my street. I've only been banded for 2 weeks. I can still only do about 30 min of brisk walking but it's something. I want to add more exercise but don't know where to go from here. Any suggestions? Thanks so much for all your posts. You are an inspiration!

No Foolin - Its an April Fool's day Challenge

Hey, I signed the spreadsheat for just that...30 lbs. I think we can do this! Thanks Tina!!!
  16. How is your protein intake and your fluids. Those were both key in my recovery. You should be getting 60-80 grams of protein a day and 64 oz of fluids. I had to force myself and sometimes still do. Also, I walk and walk and walk. I walked every day, outside, and still am. I'd say after about 10 days I was better, blueswise. Now I'm almost normal 16 days out. I forget, when was your surgery? How long ago? Not too long, if I recall. I layed around alot and watched dvds. Let me know how you are and I'll pray some more. Can't hurt. Take care. Hugs to you...

    New Year, New Me

December 16th I was banded. My journey did not begin there. It began in Aug. with my PCP. Before my surgeon would band me I had to give up 35 years of smoking cigs. I did it, obviously! I'm looking ahead to 2010 to be smoke free. I'm also looking to be a different person, literally smaller. By this time next year I intend to be a skinny person. This being the first time I've ever blogged, I'll keep it short. Happy New Year!:smile2:

    Is gum chewing okay?

I have always wondered about this. I had to quit smoking cigs to be banded and was doing the preop diet too! I used gum to replace the oral fixation I had. I chew Orbit Bubblemint and still am chewing it. I wondered about getting "stuck" with gum and now I'm worried. Also, can the peppermint irritate the pouch? Anyone know about this too?
  20. How are you feeling? Any better today? I'm two weeks out and feel great. Walking all around the park everyday. Take care and hope you're better soon.

  21. I live in Southern California and my real name is Dottie. I had my surgery on Dec. 16th and I have lost 35 lbs. to date. I started my journey through WW in Aug. I needed a "controlled" plan to get approved and just kept going. I have since quit WW and now go to my doc's support group. Since surgery I've lost 10 lbs. I did not do well the first day of surgery and couldn't keep anything down. So they drained all the fluid from my band. Therefore I have little restriction. So, I have been sticking to the diet they gave me. I'm still hungry but not nearly as much as before with the preop diet. Things are going well. I'm healing and lovin my band. I think once I get a fill it will be a lot better. Where are you going on vacation? When? Do me a favor and don't refer to me as "Dottie" on the message boards. No one knows my real name. I don't mind telling but it's been kind of a mystery...lol Take care and write when you can. Hugs to you...

  22. Good to hear from you! Glad you're home and recovering. You'll be up and around before ya know it! Happy New Year!!!

Yes, I'm still having pain associated with it and it's been two weeks since my surgery. I coughed really hard the day before yesterday and then got a sharp pain in between my breast bones. I'm trying not to irritate it now. Are you still having any discomfort?

If you mix unflavored protein powder in with things you don't even taste it. Examples are Greek yogart, creamed Soups, cream of wheat (I know, I know, Melinco you hated it...lol) it adds a looooooot of protein. I continue to do a shake for lunch for the calories and add a little frozen fruit with a scoop of protein powder. This is packed full of protein and I'm not suffering with too much hunger. Best wishes everyone!!! Have a safe and Happy New Year!!!
  25. Sorry for your loss. Her name is Boo. She used to weigh more but got fatty liver (can you believe that?) and almost died. Now she has all this skin hanging around her middle. I hope that's not me late on down the line...lol
