PBing and restriction are two different things. Having true restriction means you can eat a cup of solid food and stay full for 3-4 hours. You can PB any time and not be resticted. If you are getting hungry inbetween meals you probably need a fill. Best wishes and hugs your way...

mushbat, my doc also says 1-2 lbs. a week. I think I would find a new doctor... Karyn, I would wait for the swelling to go down then make your decision. In a week you may be just right. I can't eat very much at any one sitting. Viv...isn't restriction sweet...hey..now I know why they call it your "sweet spot"...lol New Joy, I had a hysterectomy vaginally. They left my ovaries to still produce estrogen. It was a breeze. If your doc can go that route...do it! It's been sooooooo worth it. I went to the doctor on Monday. I lost 6 lbs. in 2 weeks. I had gained 5 lbs previously on my vacation. So it was nice to know that that is gone. I did not get a fill however I had her measure my fluid. I have 5.9 in a 10 band. I can eat a little less than a cup of food at a meal. I stay full for 4-5 hours. If I'm careful I don't get stuck. And believe you me, I'm careful. I drink 64+oz. of fluid a day. She said I'm doing good and the doctor high fived me!!! So, all in all I'm doing well. I think of you often and read your posts. Love reading the posts...take care...love, Dottie

    Hiccups

I get the hiccups almost everytime I eat. So, I would say, yes, it's band related.

first fill appt and no fill!!

I agree with the other poster. If I was hungry and could eat anything and my doc wouldn't do a fill it would make me very angry. Especially since you are newly banded and have only 3 ccs. Most times it takes several fills to get to your sweet spot. You know your body best and he should have listened to you. Find a new doctor.
  6. I know you waited a long time to get there but am glad you finally are there!!! Congrats on being banded for 6 months. You are doing great on your weight loss.
  7. Leigha, I wouldn't worry. It's probably fine. I'll say a special prayer that nothing happened. You really should stick to mushies today and try to eat some solid protein tomorrow. When did this happen? Are you still hungry? It's probably okay but just try and hang in there and don't worry!!!
  8. Congrats to Anne and all the rest on all your victories. I love reading all of your posts. It is most entertaining. However, as little I'm on the computer, it's difficult to respond to all. But my prayers and thoughts are with you all!!! I went to the doctor's office on Monday and saw the PA. I lost 6 lbs. in two weeks. The doctor saw me in the hallway and high fived me. He saw me last time after my 18 day road trip, where I gained 5 lbs. He was not happy with me. Well, it's gone (the 6lbs) and according to the PA I'm either at my sweet spot or almost there. I told her that I eat a less than a cup of food per meal and stay full for 4-5 hours at a time. I drink my 64 oz. of liquids a day. Eat my Protein first and am bascially on a protein diet. And the weight came off. So, I'm staying the course and hoping for even more...I did not get a fill and am at 5.9 in a 10 band. Will check in with her in a month but if I start to get hungry am instructed to contact her sooner. I have to say my doctor's office really sticks close to their patients. I am, overall, very happy with the care there. Take care all...thinking of you always...Dottie

I gained five pounds and got stuck a lot. Basically I ate slider foods and was terrible. I am now back on track and have lost six pounds. I just remember eating too much ice cream. I am a terrible example to go by. It was very difficult. I did eat a lot of soups too. Sorry I can't be of more help. I would recommend buying a good cooler and a lot of protein shakes if you don't want to gain anything. Best wishes...anyone one else have any other suggestions???? ps. I had a really good time though...

    Took nine months-is this normal???

The OP does not surprise me at all. I am 4 months out and just now feeling "true restriction". The "wait time" after being banded is a long period. I have even heard of people who didn't start losing until after a years time. But if you keep close to your doctor and communicate and have patience it pays off. Best wishes!!!
  12. Good Morning and Happy Saturday to everyone! I have been busy reading all of your posts and am now building a farm in Farmville...yes, Bob got me addicted...lol. I have lost the five pounds I gained on my road trip and am sticking to my diet. I go to the doctor on Monday and am, like Leigha, debating on getting a fill. I can eat small amounts and am losing weight. The hunger seems to be under control at this point in time. So, I don't know what to do. I guess I'll let the doctor decide. Denise, I'm glad you're feeling better. I have been praying for you. Betsy, How is Mark? Also, praying for you and him. Stacie, I suffer from anxiety and depression also. Can relate to this big time!!! Leigha, I would listen to your body. If you think you need the fill get it. If not, don't. Don't let the money be an issue...just my opinion. It's absolutely beautiful outside today so I'm going to read on my back porch and enjoy my flowers. Take care and have a great weekend everyone!! Love, Dottie

    How long does Restriction last?

Once you reach "true restriction", after several fills, usually, it lasts forever. I am finally there and am 4 months out. It took a long time to get there but it has stayed with me this time. Best wishes!!!

    I'm hungry!

I had the same problem and am just now getting the restriction needed. As other posters recommended just get enough protein and drink a lot of water. It was everything I could do to just maintain my weight during this period. Some call it Bandster Hell because you're soooo hungry and yet you have a band now. Take care. Best wishes!!!

You're on to something here! Yes, I have to stop myself and at dinner I eat to fullness, which is not good! But I'm not hungry the rest of the night! It's the only meal I allow myself to get full on. Breakfast and lunch are real light. So, in answer to your question, Yes, for two meals a day I stop myself.

I believe (because we started this journey together) that we are at a very critical point, ladies. We are about to find our sweet spots. We have all had several fills and most aren't there yet. This surgery, for me, was anticlimatic. Only because I was "so excited to get the band" and here it is April and we're just gettin' to the point where we are restricted. Insteresting..thoughts to ponder...
  18. Did you see Dr. Phil yesterday? He did a show on children and obesity and he discussed becoming insulin resistant. I can't explain all of it but it had to do with this very subject. Maybe Betsy, our nurse, can explain better. It was very interesting. The scale is moving in the right direction now. Thank God!!!

Left Sx with an empty band

My doctor puts 3 ccs in when doing the surgery. I had to have this removed due to the fact that I was throwing up and nauseated. So, I left with an empty band. But my daughter just had the same surgeon, same surgery and she did okay. She has 3 ccs.
  20. My doc says no water for 20 min. after slider foods such as a shake.
  21. Good morning my friends. Not a lot to report here. Planted some pretty annuals in my garden yesterday. I have not been weighing myself lately only because I was becoming obsessed with it and am trying to get away from going out to the garage to weigh myself every hour...lol. I don't really think I'm at my sweet spot yet because of the hunger. I go for another fill a week from now and will discuss this with my doctor. But I haven't gained anything during this trying period and without the band I would have. Bobbie...you sound just like me. I have many of the ailments that you have too. I don't know what I would do without my health insurance. I am praying hard you'll find a good job. Take care of yourself. Well, just checking in. Love you guys...

    Weird Symptoms

I hiccup all the time. Almost every time I eat!
  23. Leigha, Woot! Woot! You look awesome!!! Bobbie, Prayers and good thoughts your way!! Betsy, Always prayers your way!! Everything is status quo here. to you too Denise. Just checking in reading the boards. Hugs to everyone....

I'm wondering????How often do you weigh yourself? This question is posed to everyone...I weigh every morning and I'm wondering if I start to weigh twice a week would be better for me???What do you think???
  25. illuminationlady

    A few questions.......please help?

    1. You're not supposed to drink while you eat or for 30 min. after. This is so that you stay full and aren't hungry. If you do drink the water washes the food right through the band hole and you get hungry faster. At first this was hard for me and now I am so used to it that I feel uncomfortable if I try and drink with meals. So, you get used to it. 2. PBing (Productive Burp) happened to me when I get stuck. This is when a piece of food gets stuck and you get a sharp pain between your breast bones. You go to the bathroom and "slime". Yes, slime comes out of your mouth and then I bend over and the stuck food comes back up. It's not like throwing up. It just comes back up. Then the episode goes away. Slider foods are foods that go right through the band. An example would be ice cream. Your sweet spot is when you have good restriction after several fills. It means you are not hungry between meals and that you can only eat a limited amount of food at any one sitting. 3. I am just honest with anyone who asks. Some people like to hide the fact that they're banded. It doesn't bother me to answer anyone's questions.
