Thanks SO much Kiz... I'll pick some up today. So the enzymes break down the egg white slime? What IS that anyway... it it something the body produces post op to help slide the food thru? I find I tend to urp up just slime very often and until some of these posts... thought it was just me. SO glad I got on again! I have lots of problems with the slime so if these help it will be a godsend!

I've found my body will only drop in chunks every 3-4 weeks for some reason...my body has changed. I was told by my trainer I needed to take in at least my bmr calories per day and burn down from there... not doing that since it's in contrast to my dr's orders. I did get a fitness assessment though and that bmr (basil metabollic rate)was much lower than i thought. I also got myself a polar watch to watch where I am on my burn and track it and it's helping a bit... at least it keeps me honest. I too track everything I eat on a site (so many). We just all lose at different rates and everything effects it -sodium, stress, lack of sleep etc. Just keep plugging away and it will come off- slow but steady.

I too was a life dieter so had clothes from 22 thru 16's so I am still ok'.. but at the end after these are gone and I feel the same way about paying for new clothes that- hopefull- I won't be in long. I have every intention of hitting the good will store and doing some shopping and maybe a consignment shop or 2. I just brought 12 jumbo garbage bags full of clothes to good will myself. The things I have to pay to get new are panties and bra's and I have an especially hard time paying for those for short term use...but do buy those new. Thankfully there's and outlet mall right by my house and I have been leaning towards the sports bra types of bras since they seem to last me a bit longer while still being supportive. At least I'll get a huge tax break for my clothes donated for this next year! PS. I was SO happy when I hit a 16.. I did the same modeling thing with my husband. He was so proud of me he dragged me to the store for upscale work out togs. I told him I didn't want to spend the money on them but he said I deserved and and insisted. I am SO glad he did... I feel like such a jock now in my work out clothes...all color coordinated and fitting right... that I leap out of bed raring to go work out vs. rolling out and going with the obligatory feeling! Getting some new clothes is SO worth it... that pair of 16 jeans (even if they were 16W) made me feel pretty hot... and I don't care if to most I am not... I felt that way...and it was SO worth it!

sorry, can't figure out how to cut and paste on this laptop but I'M 9/2 banded. can't figure out my ticker either! but down 54#total... 14 preop and 40 postop.
-
I was banded on 9/2 and just his the 54# mark but only 40 of that is post op so I'm right where you are. I feel a bit slow on wt.loss but am getting better about being ok with it. I work out hard... I do 4.5-6 hrs. per week with 4.5 more the avg. and burn 1.5k to 1.9k in calories per week avg. for a net of about 7-900 calories per day and so I just don't see myself being able to do more. I go for 3 wks. without losing and then will drop 4-6# all at once and have been doing that almost since surgery. I am, however, losing inches. I am starting to like the way my body looks and feels more so I'm getting much better about ignoring the scale. I also just cleaned out my closet and brought 12 bags of clothes to the good Will ... it felt GREAT! I have a bench in my closet and every time something gets a bit loose, from a bra or panties on out.. it goes into the takeaway pile. I won't give myself and excuse to get back into bigger clothes! I just keep putting 1 foot in front of the other and doing my best every day. We also all have very different metabolisms that effect calorie burn. If mine were any slower I'd be in hibranation...apparently I was built for survival... not speed! I had a fitness eval. that showed my basil metobolic rate and it was about 500 calories per day lower than the charts had indicated... so that gave me a better idea on why I was not losing as fast as I had thought I should be and although it sucks... it actually made me feel better knowing that I was doing really well each week based on that. Now I have a new goal of trying to raise that metabollic burn rate and have adjusted my workouts accordingly... less level 3 push and more muscle building and endurance vs. the hard fast calorie burn activities...Wish me luck! I think maybe we all go into this thinking we're going to lose faster and setting our expectations a bit too high and have to do some adjusting. I had a goal of 12# per month for 3 months then 10# a month for the next 9 months.. RIGHT! I'll avg.about 1/2 that... but that's ok too....just took some adjustment and getting over the initial let down feeling. You're doing great and from what I'm seeing in the inperson group I go to... we're in the upper end of the long term averages for women.
-
I"m like most of the rest... crust is ok but even toast is a problem... rarely I can get a piece of good crusty french bread down.. but for the most part... bread, cake, doughnuts...anything that can "glump" is a thing of the past. I've taken to using pieces of endive lettuce and putting my tuna on it in lieu of a sandwich and have to say I LOVE it. My husband is doing it now too... and he is thin!
-
I've have a lot of trouble with the big pieces of veggie in stir fry unfortunatly and completly gave up on chicken...unless it's ground or chopped it's not going to stay down. I am ok with stir fry if I do tofu and am super careful with chewing on the veggies....onions can be a problem... hard to pulverize before swollowing. I am the same as you... I feel stuck very easily and within a few bites...as soon as that 1st swollow hit's my port and tries to go thru. So was it Kit that mentioned some chewables that help. I am a huge trader joe fan but am not familiar with what the pills do and how fast they work... can you filll me in. I'm heading there this afternoon and if they'd keep me from embarassing situations at lunch I'd love it. I have to lunch with clients and have taken to ordering Soup or getting a tuna sand and picking at the sandwich fillings only... when feeling brave... to avoid sticking. even tuna is an issue at times. I try to not show it but it must show in my face since often somebody will ask me if I'm ok. I say fine and excuse myself and go releive myself of my lunch... hence soup these days... and that is not a good long term alternative.

Calling all snails...
thinin10 replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so glad you mentioned the slime thing. What IS that. I urp a LOT...think I'm a bit too tight but ok with that part right now but...1/2 the time I urp up slime- sometimes it's like a raw egg white.. that dense and large. Does the body just produce more mucus to help digest? I have noticed though... If I get in a lot of water in- that I don't tend to get "stuck"as easily. I also think sometimes I think I'm stuck when actually I'm full and the food is just passing...frankly I never feel comfortable when the food is passing... at a minimum it feels like it does when the dr.reaspirates me during a fill.. that bizzare tickle tummy feeling- roller coaster feel. Is anybody else experiencing that? -
I had 4 at the time of surg. and then 6 wks post op we did 3 all at once.. BIG mistake for me. I couldn't even get down water it hurt so bad... woke myself up puking and had to go like that for 2 days til they could unfill 1 cc. I was dehydrated, sore and very scared by then. That 1cc was put back in 4 weeks after that 1st fill. So although they have put in 7cc's, they can only re-aspirate 5 of them.. so I read like I have 5cc in and I think I am still a bit too tight but ok with that. I think this is as much as I will ever have in at a time. I still can't eat a lot of meat unless it's ground meat and 1-1.5C of soft food is as much as I can take in at a time and often urp up anything over 1/2C on truely solid foods. Everybody is SO different..it is very much a personal thing. I saw another woman on here who hit her sweet spot at 4cc that were put in at the time of surg. so no actual fills post op .. and she was doing great. By the way... I am a 10cc band.

I had discomfort/ mild pain when I laid on my left side for about 4 months post op but nothing like you're describing. Keep on the dr. to get in and made sure everything is alright..push for a scan or ultrasound to confirm it. good luck and keep us posted -
Not losing what I think I should be
thinin10 replied to krexroat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm sure it's wonderful for many.. but not for everybody. No intent to bash the bug... just relaying information. knowing what you burn is important but there are a lot of tools out there to asst. in that. On line they are 245-279.00 - that's a lot of money for most of us and then there is the computer program in addition you must pay for montly... and I talked to a rep. at the co. about alternatives and even if they have a new line coming out that can be used in the water... which they don't. It's wonderful that it works for you and I would hazard a guess... for many... but it has it's limitations like any other product and for me, not being waterproof is key since indeed I do want to know the calories I burn with my activites. The polar watch might not work out but it is better suited to my needs and perhaps others out there... since I know a lot on line do water aerobics and laps due to joint and injury issues. -
Big Questions.....Thank You
thinin10 replied to antetz's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It took me 9 months from start to surgery- almost to the day. Approved hospital (not dr)issues. Turned out for the best. I LOVE the group that did my surgery and I got to the gym and met a great group of women in the meantime that have been a great source of support and keep me going there everyday. I love the YMCA... such a nice "normal" group.. not full of the hotbod's in the matching tards that look at you ascance when you sweat! I was in and out of the hospital in 5 hours from surgery. I was out of work 2 full weeks and 1 week of 1/2 days. Most of the last week was to aclimate to the long days... I have a 2.5-3 hr. commute round trip each day. I think I needed the full 2 weeks off... I was tired a lot... took awhile for the anethesia to work out of me.. better part of the 1st week... but you're considerably younger. I feel great. I am down a total of 47# with pre and post op wt. loss and lots and lots of inches.... my 16w jeans I can pull off without unzipping them... and I was in 20 and 22w at the time of surgery. I often have long plateau's that can be frustrating but my jeans cont. to get looser during those times so I know I am losing inches and that helps. The one thing I did not do pre op and keep up on , which I regret, is taking measurments. That would be my suggestion... get your measurements too to review when you hit plateaus... which you surely will. good luck! Remember... everything happens for a reason and in it's own time... just takes awhile to see why. I remember being so frustrated by the waits and delays of surgery that it reduced me to tears several times. It's a process. -
Congratulations! What a great Christmas gift for yourself and a great way to start the New Year! Good luck and we look forward to reading of your journey on the site.

Not losing what I think I should be
thinin10 replied to krexroat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tcarroll: read up on the body bug before getting it. I did and checked out the blogs... one from one of the BL contestants. It's very expensive , you need a computer program with it and you can't use it in the Water. I found polar watch one that is only 90.00, no computer program and it's waterproof. Not sure how good it will be but 1 of the personal trainers at my gym suggested it. 1/2 my workouts per week are water (3 water,3 land days) and so I need it for the water as well. I agree with your advice though... excersies, eat right, water... all the basics none of us did pre op with any regularity. I did not think to change up my routines to increase the burn... I'll have to do that (but I too love my routines). I think the majority of us have the metabolism of dead snails though- especially those of use in menopause range. It's what we have to work with though and we're all doing it... some a bit faster than others but we're doing it and that's what counts! -

bostonlady: yes you're losing slower than some but you are still well within the averages for wt.loss. I struggled as well when I went nearly a month with only 1.5# loss ... I seem to drop on big chunks these days.. nothing for weeks then 5-6# loss. I think I hit that big wall at about the point you are. Like you I too work out a lot and hard as well. I tried to focus on the fact that during that biggest period of no wt. loss I went from my jeans being loose to being able to pull them off without unzipping them. Sounds like you're doing the same thing... feeling great, firming up and losing inches but not seeing it on the scale. It's frustrating and I know it's hard... but focus on how you feel and how your clothes feel. We're all a slave to that scale though..I hate when you wake up feeling like for sure you dropped- jump on the scale and you have not. it can ruin a whole day...but don't let it. I give myself a pep talk... try something on that I know was tight last time I tried it on and it always makes me feel better when the cloths prove the scale a liar! I just had my 2nd fill and was grumbling a bit that I thought I should be losing faster based on tha calories in/out principle. My doctor pointed out that losing 5-8% a month is what he considers to be good... you're well within that range. I also thought that you lose 80% of the wt.you're going to lose in the 1st 8-12 months and that myth was dispelled as well. My dr. and pac both said that for agb... people lose slower and cont. to lose often over a 3 year period. I think most of us, even though we say differently out loud... think we should lose more like a gastric bypass patient... it's hard to not do that comparison. You are doing great though.. keep it up and stay off the scale. Are you doing measurements? It's never to late to start doing that. -

Hrmarko: do try the meatloaf muffins... you won't be disappointed. Dry oatmeal... just old fashion quaker oats. I would LOVE to see NYC over the holidays. One of the guys I work with has a few days of vacation to burn before the end of the year so he's going for the week next week. I have never been. I had a freind who had been in NYC and she is the youngest of a group of girls I hung with from high school. We had 12 of us already booked on flights to fly out to Celebrate her 40th with her and all the fun stuff we wanted to do. Then 911 happended. Everybody cancelled but 2 of us and finally did after pressure from family..my husband was freakin' out about me flying- we cancelled as well. I was in the air on 911 on a business trip and ended up stranded in Detroit so he made the 17 hour drive to come and get me so then a week later for me to be saying I was flying out again and to NYC was more than he could handle. Sorry.... is that thoughtless of me to bring up 911 to a New Yorker... I am so not sure on the eitquette of that. I bet it's wonderful right now... all the people and lites! I would adore doing nothing more than sitting at a wine bar and poeple watching even. There's just SO much there to do. I was set to go to Columbia so I've always had the urge to be out there.... something to put on my bucket list! Have a wonderful holiday and let me know what you think of the recipe! :rolleyes2: -

louloubelle: I grew up on the Canadian border so used to be really good about converting the temps.... if memory serves you double and add 30 to the celcius and you get pretty close to the temp in farenheit ....sowell over 100 degrees and that is indeed bloody hot! I know it's not super close but do you ever get to New Zealand in the winter... lots of snow! We spent Christmas and new years there a couple years ago and I adored it (of course it was early summer then)! It'll take several more year of saving though to do another such trip. Snow is wonderful... you have to experience it... and not in a city but out where when you see the snow... you're seeing it with the stars as a backdrop and it's all untouched ...it really does look like a postcard and when the light hits it - it truely does sparkle like somebody thru glitter all over. I know that sounds like a lot of hype but it's not. I will likely always live in a northern hemisphere... I could not imagine not having snow. It can be brutal to drive in.. getting out to gas your car up when it's 30 below out is a nightmare... but you wake up to that vigin snow all over and thick on the branches of the evergreens and it's so worth it to me. I'm sure everybody feels that way about something special that the area they live in has to offer. I have freinds from the south that think I need to be medicated when I talk like that after they've been up here when it's so cold your nose hairs literally freeze when you breath thru your nose! Well if I don't get back on before the holidays everybody have a wonderful ,safe and happy holiday. :scared2: -

Oh and Loulou belle- you're doing fabulous! Keep up the good work! We are having our first snowstorm right now... very late for us and it's SO pretty! I have the tree lites on both in and out and no other lites but this screen... so cozy! I don't nee the fireplace on but really have to for the ambiance. ...my dog is laying in front of it and keeps looking at me waiting to bask it's heat... she'll lay there til she's too hot to touch (while my border collie heads to the closet to keep cool!). The snow was a bit brutal to drive in during rush hour but i met up with freinds and waited the worst of it out.. won't be so lucky tommorow at 5am going out the door into it since I am sure we won't get a snowday at work out of this. I live 63 miles north of the city so although I love living in the woods (the only souds besides my typing is my windchimes outside)... the drive each way can get more than a bit old. I also end up planting 25 or more trees each year to offset my giant carbon footprint! -

hmarko: you might be right about the salivating. I have not been doing that this last week or so and ready for a fill so... I didn't know there was such a cookbook. I love to cook and make up recipes and so it's something I made up. The first time i made meatloaf muffins they got too dry... i overdid the grains in them given how small they are. I use the livestrong site to keep track of my calories so thankfully I can now track my recipes (before they were a little different each time since I could never quite remember what I put in them the 1st time!). It's as follows: 1# of ground turkey; 4 eggs; 1/4 cup dry oatmeal; 1 1/2 cups of loosley ripped up fresh spinich and 2T (1 oz) of crumbled blue cheese. Mix up and put in muffin tins sprayed w/ pam and cook at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.. they're fabulous! It makes a dozen of them. If you like them let me know... I did up a recipe for fiberful meatballs cooked in an arrabiata sauce that I just love... I have 3 and it's plenty with a side of seasoned stewed tomatoes and a 1T of course grated paremsan on top. My husband has always said he can spot ground turkey in a recipe and does not like it.. that was like waving a red flag in front of me of course! I cooked chili, meatballs and meatloaf muffins all with ground turkey and he had no idea and loved them all. The meatloaf is pale so he suspected...but by then he liked them and no longer cared. I did a waldorf salad with pears and apples and greek yogurt with a bit of agave necter in it too and that I really like, but not as filling for the calories..but I can eat apples that way without discomfort and had to have some honeycrisp's when they came out this fall. I have not tried the green beans yet.. i'll have to. I have done pea pods but they can be a bit stringy. I adore the jicima though... even just plain. I'm going to do a stir fry this weekend... think I'm ready to tackle all those veggies at once! I'll just make sure they're cooked a bit softer. I can use tofu then too and that is easy to eat and a good protien source. -

hmarko: I am down 43# total, the 14 pre op and 29 post op. yes, the red/green/yellow graph is what we use and my understanding as well is green is good. I'm there about 80% of the time.. once in awhile red but the last week or 2 have been lots of yellow! I do have the 10cc lapband. I get the salivating thing more than I care to as well and I have learned to urp up whatevers' causing it or be miserable til it passes. I think that is from not chewing enough and like you I am being very careful. I got the green lite to start being free with fruits and veggies for now for a more balanced diet. One of my all time favorite snacks is hummus with raw veggies. I've been doing flatbread til now but actually ate veggies today with it= YEAH! It's so much fewer calories and I need the fiber. I got down the jicima and cauliflower just fine but the carrots I had to be very diligent about chewing for a long time... practice right! I took 5 hours on Sat. and cooked non-stop. One of the meals I made were the cutest little meatloaf muffins (portion control) and "frosted" them with mock mashed potatoes (the pureed cauliflower). I think I might even do some sweet potatoes on them next time....they're almost too cute to eat! Back to task.. my dr. office on the charts shows .2-.5cc as an avg. fill but they've really ramped that up. I made him promise no more than 1cc this next time and if more needed past that I will do .5cc. I don't ever want to feel like that again (when they did 3cc at once). The fills though aren't an issue but I do wish he'd quit playing with it. He likes to try to pull all the fluid out to see how much is in there (my body likes to stash 1cc that he can never seen to retrieve). It feels like a funky kind of tickle tummy ride when he pulls and pushes that fluid in and out.. makes me want to tell him to knock it off! Seems like most have hit a wall at about 3 months so must be common. Lulubelle...you're going great.. I can't beleive your dr. thinks you're losing too slow.. you're only what- 10 weeks post op and you're down well over 30#... that's uber good! The charts say 1.5# on the low side to 3# on the top end for wt. loss per week and you're over the top....pat yourself on the back and keep up the good work... it's you top acheivers that set the bar for most of us to reach with out own goals! I'm so glad I got back on line.. this is very much what I needed. Thanks Ladies.. have a great evening!
