I've had my lab band for approximately 2 years I went from a size 1x to a size 10 and was still losing. I went in for an adjustment and was informed that my band had dilated. My band was emptied and I will be consulting with my doctor on the 25th. He mentioned gastric bypass or repairing the band. I 've gained 13 lbs since my band was emptied. I'm very distrught over this and I'm not sure which direction to take. Gastric bypass seem so extreme with the cutting and re-routing of this and that. I've observed several co-workers with the gastric bypass they lose the weight quick and look great. But again I'm concerned about drastic procedure.:tongue_smilie: Can someone share a similar experience or just their opinion on the matter. Terry.

Hello everyone  I've had my band for approximately 2 years. The weight lost has been slow. When I started I weighed about 250 and went down to 172 and still losing. I did not have an adjustment for awhile. When I finally went in for an adjustment I was shocked to find out that I had a dilation of the band. Instead of my band being filled my band was deflated and I was told to come back in 6 weeks to see if it repaired itself. In between that visit I gained 13 pounds. My doctor informed me that my band would have to be repaired or possible change to gastric by pass. I see my doctor on 9/25/09 for consultation and he will discuss my options. I'm so distruaght. Part of me have been considering the gastric sleeve or bypass to lose the quickly and move on with my life. I feel this is such a set back. Yes....it's obvious that I'm very upset over this but I'm determine at what ever choice is made. With a deflated band I have this horrendous appetite. I've been trying to control it but it's difficult. I think this whole ordeal and setback is messing with my head. I would not suggest getting rid of the band if you have not managed your eating disorder. I'm not ashamed to admit that I need the support of the band. Terry

Poll: How many have acid reflux problems?
testevenson replied to NJChick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello, I have developed a very bad acid reflux problem after the band. I take prilosec. I recently went in for an adjustment and was informed that my band was dilated and my band was deflated to see if my situation would get better. After my next visit I was informed that my band will need to be repaired or look into getting a gastric bypass. The deflated band also caused me to gain back some weight. I weigh 186 at present. I'm so distruaght that I'm actually considering the gastric bypass to get this weight off me once and for all and move on with my life. Not a happy camper right now! Terry  -
Hello, I'm 52 and I was told on my last visit that my pouch above my band was enlarged which meant it was dilated. It's when the stomach has enlarged above the band. My doctor deflated my band to give my esophagus a chance to heal and I have gained 13 pounds in 8 weeks. I go for my consultation on 9/25/09 and my doctor will be discussing repairing the band or gastric bypass. I'm so distruaght. I feel as though I'm peddling backwards. I hope this is not the case with you. Terry

Staying the Course, but not dropping the weight.

Lab band is a slow process. Like you I excercise a lot. It took me over a year to lose 78 lbs. I've had the lap band for about 2 years now. I went from 250 to 172 and I was still losing. (very slow) Went in for an adjustment and was told no can do! Instead of getting an adjustment they deflated the band due to dilation. My band caused my pouch above the band to dilate or enlarge and acid reflux is causing some esophagus issues. Therefore, I will be having surgery again to repair the band or gastric bypass. I've gained back 13 pounds since they open my band. I'm very distraugt over it all. Part of me want the mini-bypass or regular bypass to lose the weight quickly once and for all and get on with my life. The lap band is a good procedure but it can reak havoc on your mental state. I know of a couple of co-workers who talked there doctors into tighting the band so tight to the point they can bearly get down liquids. They throw up most foods because it cant get past the small opening. They have lost weight quickly like the bypass. But something is not right about that. One of the girl's skin looks very pale. Not sure what the long term effects would be. Terry -
I've had my lab band approximately 2 years. I went from a 1x to a size 10. My goal was to be in a size 8. When I went for my adjustment I was informed that my band had dilated and needed to be repaired. He deflated my band and I've gained 13 pounds since my last visit. I'm devestated! I will be consulting with my Doctor on the September 25th. During the last visit he mentioned gastric bypass or repairing the lap band. I'm very upset over this. I'm also a bit concerned. The gastric bypass seem so drastic with the cutting and re-routing of this and that. On the other hand I must admit that several co-workers had the gastric bypass, and they lost weight fast and look great. I'm a bit confused. Part of me want to be done with this and just want the weight off quickly the other part of me still feels the lab band is the healthier route and patience is needed on my part. Does anyone have similar experience I would like to hear your thoughts on this. Or anyone who could impart some wisdom. Terry:confused:

I understand. I had the lap band approximately 2 years ago the weight lost can be very slow compared to gastric bypass. One thing I do know is that you must get your adjustment particularly if your having a problem with portion control. Also you must get some excercise to assist with the weight lost. I'm a bit depressed also because I found out on my last visit I could not be adjusted because my lap band was dilated therefore they deflated my band. Therefore I'm wide open and can eat! I gained 13 pounds. On my next visit my doctor is going to discuss repairing the lap band or gastric bypass. I'm a bit concerned about the bypass it seem so drastic they way they re-route your insides and the lack of nutrition obtain from the food that you take in. However the a couple of the girls at work did the gastric bypass and they lost weight quick and look great. On the other hand a supervisor on my job and another co-worker regained the weight with the gastric bypass and one of them went back to surgery and got the lab band and is now losing weight. Confusing I know. However I will say that the gastric bypass is known for losing a lot of weight quickly. I don't know if I've helped much just thought I would share my experience and knowledge. I feel it's a mistake to remove the lap band, particularly if you have a problem with portion control. To me the band is going to have to be a way of life for me. My band dilated and the doctor deflated my band. I go back for consultation to talk about having it repaired. I've gain 13 pounds since the band was deflated. Once repaired I'm going to take good care of it. The last thing I want to be is FAT again. Not only for cosmetic reasons but for health reasons as well.
