I've been overweight for as long as I can remember.  I weighed 142 lbs just before graduating High School.  I then gained the Freshman 15 and never looked back...  It seems every time I got close to getting under 200, I would self sabatage.  Who knows why???  Anyway, I now have 2 boys age 10 and 12 years and currently I'm at my heaviest weight of 242 lbs.  I'm simply disgusted after having tried every diet known to man with limited success and great failures.  I am at my rock bottom and it's time to make a permanent change for my health and the sake of my kids.  I will no longer let my weight and poor self image hold me back from enjoying life to the fullest.  I just turned 40 and swore I would be at my ideal weight by now.  Well, I'm sure my story is a common one.  My insurance refused to pay for any and all bariatric surgery.  Time to take matters into my own hands.  This is my year, it's my turn and I deserve it!
I heard an ad on the radio right after going to the mall to buy clothes to replace the "fat clothes" I threw out months ago and swore I would never need again.  Anyway, I called, got approved for financing and made an initial consult all in the same phone call.  In fact. my intial consult occured the same day as my call.  I arrived at my appointment, signed all the papers, set my surgery date to less than two weeks away, bloodwork done...the works.  I started my Pre-Op liquid diet today (the very next day after my initial consult).  This is all moving sooooo fast but I'm glad.  My upper GI study, Psych and nutrition consult are on Sept.14th and surgery date is Sept. 21, 2009.  I'm nervous, I'm a food addict but I'm ready to face my beast head on!
