I have never been a small or skinny child. I have always had a sweet tooth, belonged to the Clean Plate Club, and been more academic than athletic. So it is no surprise that at 29, I weighed 290 pounds. Now mind you, I weighed that amount 2.5 years ago, the day I gave birth to my 9 pound 1 ounce son. I developed Type II diabetes when I was 25, and it is really strong on my dad's side of the family. He died at the age of 50 and had his leg removed. His mother died at 49, also a diabetic amputee. I vowed not to let myself continue down that same path, something had to change. I don't want my son and daughter to be mourning my passing too soon, so I looked into Lap Banding. I went to a seminar, liked what I heard and saw. My insurance approved me after about 5-6 weeks. Thankfully my insurance covers it completely. My surgery date is September 14, 2009, and I couldn't be more excited.
