Mad at nutritionist or myself???
steelergirl replied to TracyNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interesting post...My nutritionist explained that everyone has a different life and schedule. As long as you were eating every 4 hours and not hungry in between, it was good! If you are living 17hour hectic days, 3 meals wouldn't be enough for you. I would try to adjust when your eating or spacing out smaller protein filled items. Cottage cheese, etc. Food logs are incredible for me personally. Just my 2 cents worth... -
All I do is walk is this enouph?
steelergirl replied to marmar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I walk during my lunch at work with a co-worker for 30 minutes. Sometimes we can get in about 1.5miles. I then do about 30 minutes of Wii fit...mostly aerobics in the evenings. I have always been very active even in the 300# but because of that and the damage to my joints, I have to be careful with certain exercise. I love weight training and boxing. When i added the Wii fit, I doubled my weight loss!. So any movement is good movement! -

I do have too confess though...I wish I would of had a "last meal". My birthday was Sunday and I did have a piece of b-day cake. (very small) but counted the calories in my daily log!!! What a wonderful road all 3 of us have ahead of us!!! -

Anyone Get a Lapband Approval with Medicaid?
steelergirl replied to stl2atl07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to complete a documented 6 month diet with nutritionist. I started the process in late April and had my last appt with doctor on October 21st. I was approved on the 24th and scheduled for surgery on Nov 12th! The first 3 months ...my head wasn't in it. I had lost and gained so much weight throu my life I just wanted to not think about it. I actually gained about 15 lbs from April to Sept. Then I just realized one day that I had to be invested. I had waited all this time and "What if they still denied me?" I still wanted to lose the weight and get healthy. So I woke up that next day and BAM! I've been on track ever since. I have lost 36lbs since middle of September and feel great. The pre-op has been easy for me and I also started walking 30 minutes a day and light areobics 30 minutes about 5X a week. The insurance i think was just doing what their policy said. and I would imagine that there are some that give up when they hear they have to wait 6 months. Not me....I'm stubborn!! Keep me informed about your progress, stay on top of it! -
I had 2 sleep studies done. They aren't all that bad. I wore a sports bra.(cotton/comfy) and some cotton shorts. The techs, Im sure see all kinds of stuff while your sleeping....LOL

Help, looking for lap band success stories
steelergirl replied to jmperry's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Janine. I am 39 and started this journey at 324. G-Bypass wasn't ever in my mind to do. I had mild sleep apnea as well but the pulmonary doctor decided not to treat me prior to surgery because during my second sleep study my sleep improved little. ( i didnt have much sleep disturbance at all) I have fair knowledge about nutrition and what works in my body. I have always been a healthy eater but had severe portion control issues and would binge when cravings would come over me. I was always active and never drank soda, candy or sweets regularly. But at my highest was 347! So...I say all of that to say, you are an absolute candidate for Lapband and I encourage you to seek out a surgeon who is open to what their patient needs are. best of luck! -
Anyone Get a Lapband Approval with Medicaid?
steelergirl replied to stl2atl07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally do not have medicaid insurance however, the person that referred me to my surgeon does. They actually had an easier time getting approved then my private insurance Coventry. She was on the low side of BMI and had 1 co-morbidity and all total took her 3 months from initial appt to surgery. Good luck and just hangon, insurance can be tough but worth the wait!!! Im in DE -
A lot can happen in 4 days! Weight can bounce 4 lbs per day in either direction! Don't get discouraged. Are you drinking water?

I am not in your situation, however I did consider briefly, Gastric Bypass. I say briefly because I really feel it is a personal decision. I have struggled with losing and gaining the same 100lbs. over and over again probably 8 times in the last 20 yrs. Never able to maintain longer than about 2 months. I know what I am supposed to do, I just can't maintain. (I was also a candidate for Bypass) The only health issues I had going into this (blessing) was severe Osteoarthritis, and borderline HTN. All which is managed when I lose the weight. When I researched the lifestyle changes and recovery....The band took it, hands down! AND....if need be, it can be adjusted OR removed. Speak honestly with your surgeon and do your own research. Good luck on your decision!:scared2:

Are you kidding me? Pregnant?
steelergirl replied to jenesy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds bitter sweet. On a positive thought...you will have no problem getting rid of that baby weight in another 18 months! Just remember that someone else had a plan that was bigger and better than yours. I have a sneaky suspicion that it will bring you so much joy! -

I posted this in November bandsters as well...Thought I would get more responses this way. Thanks! I consider myself to have slightly more than average knowledge about nutrition and what your body needs to be "healthy"...My question is this, If we are supposed to take in around 70mg of protein daily (give or take) what negative consequences will there be if we take in , lets say 120mg? Will it slow down our weight loss? make us sick? constipate? I am eating around 100mg daily and sometimes get up to 125mg....Am I slowing my loss down? I am also eating the appropriate amounts of fat and whole grain carbs. FYI: i am eating around 1400-1500 calories a day and walking 30 minutes 5X a week as well as 20-30 minutes light aerobics at least 5X a week I have been doing this for 3 months now, ALL pre-op

Lap-Band and PCOS
steelergirl replied to AlienBandit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there- I also have PCOS. I am scheduled to be banded 11/12 however ,everytime I have lost a significant amount of weight in the past (50lbs or more) I have had fantastic results with symptoms going away. I do seem to have better results when I watch my sugar intake very closely. My cycle becomes regular, slows hair growth, the acne goes away completely. I also have seen a decrease of symptoms with age. I am turning 40 and was DX (finally) at age 26. Good luck and keep us posted on your success! -
Pre-op testing surprises!!!! anyone else?
steelergirl replied to Happy Day's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the exact same boat as far as the pre-op testing. My insurance wanted 6 months documented work with nutritionist. I had to have all of the same pre op testing and 2 sleep studies. The first one is to see if you have sleep apnea and the second to see if when you wear the "cpap" mask it helps the amount of apnea's you experience during the night. After all the testing I was found to have sleep apnea but only a mild form and the Doc felt after the surgery it would fix itself. In the past 20 yrs when I have lost significant weight, my snoring stops. If he would have insister we treat for the sleep apnea, I would have had to wait another month after the initial 6 months! Almost to the day, 6months later, I got my date. 11/12 EXCITED:thumbup::thumbdown::thumbup: -
