  1. I'm only 6 days post-op and already having a hard time sticking to the liquids-only diet. I am supposed to stay on it for 4 weeks then move on to mushies/solids but it's getting increasingly hard. I had almost no post-op pain or discomfort but really struggled thru the 3-day CLEAR liquid phase and barely made it, and even though the first time I was able to eat some soup (Cream of mushrooms) felt AWESOME and was incredibly satisfying (compared to my previous "broth hell"). Problem is I am already SICK of soups & shakes and finding it really hard to have just 3 meals a day, in such small portions since I start feeling hungry just a couple of hours after each meal. I truly feel (or maybe I would just like to believe) that my stomach is READY to move on to the next phase. Yesterday (Day 5) I couldn't resist the urge and cheated for the first time and had 2 slices of white bread with some mayo on them (mayo sandwich). I did feel kinda bad about it but the thing tasted SO awesome and my stomach was more than fine so I just let it go. Today, I had a few spoonfuls of rice before my breakfast shake and same thing, some remorse afterwards but it was DELICIOUS and the food went down OK. Since the op, I haven't BP'ed, vomited or felt any kind of restriction other than feeling reasonably satisifed immediately after my morning shake or serving of soup. A few minutes ago I was very tempted at work and had some junk food (a small bag of Mexican "cheetos") which ALSO went down perfectly fine, no burps, no pain or anything, so I am starting to get worried that this "bingeing" beahavior will only keep getting worse and worse as days go by and I won't be able to control it and/or may even damage my band at some point. Still haven't eaten ANY meat at all, but I am really tempted about having a few bites of a (small) cheeseburger just to see what happens... HEEEELP!!!
  2. Well, I came clean to my Doctor today... and told him that I was really struggling with this liquid-only diet while he was removing the stitches. I told him what I had been eating the past 3 days (bag of cheetos, slices of bread, 1 cheeseburger, etc) and to my surprise he didn't give me any attitude at all, on the contrary, he almost reacted as if he had "expected" this would happen, and only advised that I MADE SURE I chewed everything REALLY REALLY WELL and, of course, to also make better food choices. He did advise against eating any "hard" foods like crackers, corn chips, toast, etc for the time being. So I'll just keep having my morning shake and try to complement my lunch & dinner Soup servings with some grilled fish or chicken if possible, but... I guess I'm off the hook! w00t!
  3. Thank you all so much for your great advise. I've read each and every one of your comments carefully. I will definitely come clean to my doctor tomorrow morning and ask for help and/or liquid diet alternatives if possible.
  4. Hello everyone, (I'm re-posting this from the INTRODUCTIONS thread) I was just banded yesterday 09/09/09! I was a bit nervous about the whole procedure but luckily, just a few hours before surgery I found your site and read all the Post-Op stories to try to get an overall idea of what to expect and of coruse... it helped me A LOT. Thank you all so much. It's only been a few hours since my surgery, and besides the pain and overall discomfort I like they way the band feels: I feel mentally "hungry" but physically satisfied I dunno if that makes any sense to any of you, but it's helped me deal with the whole liquid diet thing. So since 3pm today (it is now 1am) I've had a small cup of apple juice in the hospital, a single scoop of mango ice cream (non-dairy) a couple of lemon popsicles and a large cup of fresh made chicken broth. There is no additional discomfort that I can associate to these liquids, so it all seems to be going down just fine. I am in Mexico City, currently weigh 286 pounds and need to lose about 120. I had the surgery done here (Visso Clinic in Santa Fe, Mexico City), the total cost was around $5,800 USD in pesos (including adjustments, physical, nutritional and psychological treatment for a year). I guess the "worst" part of my procedure was getting the IV line in my wrist (I hate needles!), and the extremely sore throat during the first few hours after surgery. Other than that I think the abdominal pain has been kinda bearable so far except when I cough. I am very happy I went through with this and will be reading my way through the entire forum for additional knowledge. This page is of great help. Thank you all so much! :w00t:
