I am in Washington and went to the NWWLS (Dr. Michaelson) but is in the same office as Dr. Montgomery. I did self-pay and I also live in Renton/Kent. It was totally worth it, and that office is wonderful.

Paid for surgery out of pocket?
Smittyjulesberg replied to Veronda's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I also did self-pay. I knew my insurance wouldn't cover it, and thought that if I did pay for it myself, I'd have a lot more respect for my band. Every month when I make that $200 payment, I'm reminded of why I have the band and how important this decision was to my health and self-esteem. -
Congrats lisah25. My first NSV came yesterday when my boss came over to my desk, asked how much weight I lost. When I told her 9 lbs, she called me a funny name (lovingly) and says she can really tell! Whoo Hoo.

Ok, so I have a question..Today is the first day that I started back at work, (I work a desk job) and I am sitting here in my chair. Sitting straight up seems to bother me, like I can almost feel my port rubbing against my stomach? Also, feels like I can't take as deep a breath as I would like to. Has anyone else had this feeling? Any suggestions?

Cassandra- I was just banded on Aug 31st, and I've been school shopping at the mall, garage sale'n, and scrubbing my bathroom floor. I feel great for just have surgery. I'm just trying to keep my mind off cheeseburgers.

I so excited! I got banded at 8:15am this morning, and feel great for the most part. A little bloated, but thats to be expected I'm sure. Finally, it's taken 34 years but now my life is beginning! Congrats to all of us!

Omg..Everyone's stories are making me weepy, because I can so relate but more because everyone did something about it. My last straw was on vacation at Lake Chelan this year, we rented a ski boat and I was inner tubing when I fell off the tube and realized I couldn't pull myself back up on the boat, using the ladder. My surgery is on Thursday..Praise GOD!

Hey There- I'm looking for someone that's getting banded on or near my band date of August 31st..Thought perhaps we could be 'band buddies' and compare how we're feeling, etc.. Anyone up for it?

Legallyblonde2- LOL. I love to hear that other people have that problem at times. Makes me feel more human. Usually, I just say, "OH, that wasn't me"...hehe

Aetna Open Access Vs. United Healthcare
Smittyjulesberg replied to Olive's topic in Insurance & Financing
It really depends on the employer. They determine what will be covered. I have UHC, and they do not cover anything. I'm going to appeal the denial, once I receive it and I plan on doing a self pay. The worst they can say is "no" so I'm gonna go for it. -
Where do I go from here? (Vent/Whine/Complain for starters)
Smittyjulesberg replied to Constance's topic in Insurance & Financing
Wow.. I can totally sympathize with your situation. I was originally told by some incompetent CSR that my insurance covered the surgery at 100%. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I am going to fight the denial, but in the mean time I'm getting my surgery. I'm almost 35 years old, and I don't want to live like this for the rest of my life. I'm doing some creative financing and my surgery date is Aug 31! I think you should just go for it. You can always fight it later..When your thinner and have more energy!
