    Scary pics- stretched esophagus

I was just diagnosed last week with a dilated esophagus. I did the fluoroscope (sorry for spelling) and saw how large it was. i am on 3 medications (steroid, ibuprofin and an ant-acid) to reduce the swelling. I also had my band unfilled. I was not able to eat solid food real well since my last fill. (I was 4cc out of 10) I could tolerate only soft or liquid. I have an appointment next week to see if the esophagus is responding to treatment. I have been able to eat regular food and have lost 7 lbs in 7 days!!! I am probably one of the few who do not need a fill...or a very small fill. I was banded 11-04 and total weight loss is 40lbs. A tight band is NOT good!!! If you overeat, the food has nowhere to go except back up into your esophagus...which in turn stretches it out. Listen to your body and if it hurts when you swallow or you are throwing up and cannot tolerate solid food...see your doctor!
  6. Mickey the same thing happened to me...see my post recently. I had a fill of 1.5 cc and I can't tolerate any solid food...it come right up. I had 1/2 container of small yogurt for bfst and I was not hungry at lunch but forced down a protein shake. Will have some soup (broth) for dinner and hope it stays down. I am also going away over christmas (on a cruise) and may have to go for a small unfill if this does not improve in a week. Try the liquids for a few days. Hope you are better soon.
  7. Thanks all, I am taking just liquids for a few days and will see what happens. I can't believe I have this much restriction on 1.5 cc's. I am sure the pb-ing did not help.
  8. Got my 1st fill this past Thursday (1.5cc) and tried to eat salmon the 1st night. Well, what went down before is no more! I had 2-3 small bites and chewed WELL. I then had this burning in my stomach (not heartburn) and coughed. Well, when I coughed the food came up. I tried a forkful of meatloaf the next night and same thing. I can't cough when I eat or it will all come up. I have great restriction and it appears I will have to experiment all over again to see what food I can eat. Turkey and chicken are my food of choice even though I can only eat about 5 bites at a time. I still have this burning sensation in my stomach (pouch) with most food. Anyone else experience this? Overall, things are going great!! I am so happy that I have this band to help me.

  10. I am having no problem drinking the required 64 oz of Water each day...I have been drinking a little more. My question is that it seems I am drinking ALL the time...every 5-10 mins so that I can get it all in. Is this ok? Can you stretch your pouch by drinking too much? BTW, Since last Wed I am doing great! My pain has gone away....just feel a bit tender by the port. I went in surgery at 312 and now weigh 302. (probably water) Thanks for your response.

    Odd arm pain

Thanks for all the reassurance...it's comforting knowing that you are all out there going through the same thing. One arm feels better today and it looks like its going away. I now had a bad bout of diahrea today. Boy..each day brings new surprises. I am still so happy that I had this done and will be patient while I heal.
  12. I was banded 2 days ago and I feel I am doing great. I have a new pain today in my arms....is this normal? It hurts aroung my bicepts and wrists the most. I feel like I was beat up.
  13. Hi everyone! I have reading this board faithfully and it has helped me prepare for my new life. I was banded yesterday in NC by Dr. Enochs. I have some pain by my port site and had some nasty heartburn earlier today. I called the Dr. and he said it was ok to take Pepcid and that worked great! I had no nausea (I was so afraid of that) since they gave me that patch that goes behind your ear. I slept on a bed wedge to be on the safe side. I am getting all my fluids with no problem. I do have some throat pain like a sore throat..which is because they had some trouble getting that tube down my airway during surgery. I was up and walkin right away and it was so important to do those deep breathing exercises after sugery. I coughed some from that and could taste/smell the gas they used to put you out. I hope to post more of my improvements as time goes on. Thanks for being there!
