  1. Ok when I comes to pain I have a high tolerance for it, usually I am up for ANYTHING and I consider myself a strong person. I have my psychological evaluation tomorrow and after that I will get a call to tell me when I go in for surgery! I am so excited but to be honest I am totally and completely terrified. I know the chance of dying is slim but I am really scared I will be the one who will (cause honestly that’s my luck lol). Is there any way to get rid of this feeling? My mother assures me I’m young healthy and ill be alright, though I feel better when she says that I’m still scared. I am 20 years old, I am 5’5 and weigh 254 pounds, I have no health problems except slight high blood pressure but its not bad. Am I the only one that’s so scared of the actual surgery? Don’t get me wrong I am kinda afraid for after the surgery but I’m confident I could lose the weigh I need. Just the whole having surgery is kinda scary to me.
  2. well no one can say weather or not you should go through with it but yourself. From what I see many many people go through this either out fear of failing or the fear of the surgery. I am suppose to have surgery on the 22nd. I am scared nervous, and thinking about backing out. I am 20 years old and have been wanting this since I was 17. I have done all the research and probably know more then most. I am nervous that I will fail and that is not an option since I will be self-paid. If you ever want to talk message me anytime!
  3. Mine is the 22nd so its close to halloween its going to be hard to avoid all that candy lol. i'm really nervous thinking of backing out lol:blushing:
  4. I am so nervous, I keep going back and forth in my mind weather or not to do it. I really want to but I am afraid of a lot of things. Failure being one, also not fully knowing if I will be able to adapt to the changes needed of me, also it might be the unknown of the future. I really want to change I want to go on this journy but it being so close to reality now i'm completely terrified. I'm not sure if I am starting to change my mind out of fear or what. I know in my mind I want to do it, but at the same time i'm not sure. If you have any advice or even storys to help me out that be great.

    New

I havnt been banded yet havnt even gotten my date (grrr. lol) But you have lost a decent amount of weight congrads! Remember everyone loses weight at diffrent rates, and if you havnt been exerciseing as much as you should thats part of the reason you might have not lost as much. But I am sure you will be able to get back on the wagon and start losing even more! Good luck!

    ugh...a crappy fat moment

I know how you feel. The other day I went to the mall with my mother and walking back to my car some guys yelled out of the truck to me saying "fat ass". It hurts but I guess we all have to move on. No matter what people say remember and realize youre a beautiful person inside out. Good luck on your journy.
  7. I havnt been banded yet but I am expecting to feel the same way after I do. Food has been a big part of our lifes till now its just part of the change you got to get use to. Say when your family is making food go outside maybe go to the park and walk around a bit if youre able. I can imagin how hard it is for you right now but you didnt make a mistake. You did this to better yourself and to make a healthier you! You can do it dont let some depression get you down :tongue2: Just think about when you do start losing weight all the new thinner clothes you will buy  Why not make a list of motivations that might help keep your head up. You can do it!
  8. Congrads!!! Ive been waiting on my phone call since tuesday and its driving me up a wall lol:tongue_smilie:
  9. I'm sorry your confused! I would be too. I'm 20 years old 5'5" and 247 pounds. Luckily my doctor didn’t tell me to wait. I personally have been on every diet known to man I was probably the only 5th grader to be on weight watchers . For me I know I’ve tried everything including starving myself to lose weight. Maybe it be best if you see another surgeon and see what their opinion might be. If you really feel that you should continue to diet do it :tongue2: maybe it will work this time, and it never hurts to try again before making a big decision. I’ve been thinking about this since I was 15 so I know this is something I want to do. Good luck with your decision if you ever need to talk I’m here.

    What motivates you?

I'm not banded yet (soon I hope!) but I already have motivation. My motivation is first myself being healthy for the first time in my life, my grandfather he is paying out of pocket for me to get this surgery, my mom, my brother, and this may sound stupid but also for my future children. I want my kids (that I will have someday) to have a healthy mom and know i will live for a long time. I cant wait to get banded!
  11. This is your healing time you shouldn’t worry weather or not you lose weight. You need to worry about healing fully then after you heal then the work begins. I haven’t been banded yet, but am very excited. Try not to look at your scale during the healing process it will probably get frustrating since I hear most gain weight during the mushies. I know that everyone want to began to lose weight right away but before any of that you need to heal don’t worry it will happen don’t freak you will get to your goal weight. :tongue2:

    Friendship Lost over the Band

Don’t change your decision because someone decided they wanted to cut you down. If someone cant express their opinion in a nice way weather they agree or not, then they are no friend that you need. What you need is support and someone to talk to about it. This is a HUGE decision and its going to change your life for the good. I haven’t been banded but I will get my surgery date sometime this week. No one has the right to act that way towards anyone weather they agree with it or not. If you ever need to talk you can message me on here or here is my e-mail Musicsigh@hotmail.com , hang in there! I am sure everything will turn out fine

I really love lapbandtalk everyone is so nice.

    scared

123crod- Thank you so much for your reply it made me feel alot better and you didnt scare me. I am glad that I am not the only one that has ever been this nervous. Knowing others are/have been just as nervous as I am is a comforting thought and I really appreciate it. Grandma26-Thats great I hope that there will be kind people there to help me before my surgery. I have almost backed out at least 3 diffrent times but this is something I want to do. I appreciate your comment I really do. Today I feel a lot better I went to for my Psychological evaluation and it turns out the psychologist I went to had the lap-band back in may. I was so relieved I went to him he helped me out a lot and made me feel at ease. I am so excited!
  17. I'm not sure who works harder but really everyone here made the decision to change their life and I am sure a lot have. So it doesn’t really matter who works harder just as long as you get to where you need/want to be. Personally I haven’t gotten banded yet (so scared!), but I will be self-pay. Though technically my grandfather is paying for the bill. My family is far from rich and just thinking that my grandfather loves me so much he would gladly pay the $15,000 well I’m just lucky to have him, because without him it wouldn’t be possible. Not only cause we really don’t have that kind of money but we have no insurance so I wouldn’t be able to get it done at all without him. As soon as the surgery is over I am going to start to pay him back. Anyways for me personally I know I will work my butt off, not just for myself but for my grandfather for wanting to see me healthy. As long as you have motivation everyone can succeed I’m sure of it.

    Frustrated

Four pounds is great! I haven’t been banded yet but I was told id lose 1-2 pounds a week but more likely one. Be excited with your success don’t see it as a failure its not. I know everyone wants the quick way to being thin but patience is key! You can do it just keep up what you’re doing you will do great! At least you’re losing something and not nothing
  19. I so agree with this. I am honestly afraid of what people I know will say to me. So personaly the only people who know is my mom, Grandfather (he is sweet enough to pay out of pocket, and let me pay him back), my brother, and my best friend(it took me forever to even tell her im going to get it done. Everyone else I know dont even know I am going to be in surgery either October, or November. Even after the surgery I will not tell another soul. I dont understand why so many people are so judgemental and think that they know best.
  20. Acctualy Melinco I live here in Pueblo colorado and Dr. Smith is my surgeon I will get the surgery sometime late october/early November. I am self paid (well my grandfather is paying for it thankfuly, and I will pay him back) but anyways Dr. Smith Charges about $15,000.

Getting a grip of the rules?

I dont have the band yet so i'm not sure, but remember you didnt learn those habbits over night. Taking the large gulps of water, or taking big bites it took years for your mind to get use to it. Now this will probably take some time for you to get use to it. Give it at least a year and a half to two years. It will become habbit eventualy :mad2: Good luck on your journey!
  22. Aw congrads! I cant wait to get mine done in october. Keep it up and keep working hard! Youre really nice about your friends eating infront of you I would have been angry with them. You have a great attitude I bet you will be one of the really successful ones!
  23. Its probably a good idea to quit for awhile even if they dont test. I smoke occationaly but because i'm getting ready to start this journy I quit. I havnt smoked in over a month and a half. So just to be safe stop smoking for awhile and depending on how much you smoke tell your surgeon.
  24. Hi! I suppose this is where you’re suppose to introduce yourself. My Name is Ana I am from Pueblo Colorado. I haven’t gone through the surgery yet and tomorrow is my consultation. I attended the free seminar hosted by Dr. James Smith (who thankfully lives in my town) who has done over 500 lap-band surgeries and still does at least one, once a week. Though I haven’t fully gotten started yet (yay tomorrow!) he says I am a good candidate for the surgery and has told me my surgery would probably be mid to late October. I am 20 years old, my height is 5’5” and I weigh 267 pounds. Now I have done everything to lose weight, including diet, exercise, magic pills, and even starved myself(which was the only way I actually saw results even though it was a bad choice). Now as a big decision I decided to get the lap-band surgery and without my grandfather this wouldn’t even be an option. I stumbled upon this site awhile back when I was trying to figure out mortality rate of the surgery, I have heard its less then 1%. I have come here to hear different stories maybe get some encouragement and also what to expect before and after the surgery. I know my surgeon is suppose to discuss that (and I’m positive he will) but I want to hear from the people who have had the surgery. Also I want to know if 500 successful surgeries is good? I mean I’m sure it is and he knows what he is doing but just want some opinions. Well hopefully I get replies but if not that’s ok J thanks for reading!
  25. I have yet to do the surgery, but I’ve been to a seminar. Now if what my surgeon say is true you WILL lose just as much with the band as you would with the gastric bypass. In five years he says patients of the lap-band and gastric bypass lose the same amount of weight and that really with the band you can possibly lose more weight in the long run the with the gastric bypass. Now like I said I don’t know for sure I’m just going off what my surgeon informed me.
