    fibromyalgia

Just for consideration.... In the 1990's a doctor thought I had MS. Test was negative. In 2003, I couldn't walk or feed myself. Doctors thought I had Lupus. No tests were positive other than an elevated sedimentation rate. In 2004, I finally had a test come back positive - it was Lyme Disease. I also have co-infections of Babesia and Erichliosis. After years of treatment I finally started to feel better. However, I still have symptoms that come in a cycle once a month. Not as bad as before. Recently a doctor just looked at me and told me it was fibromyalgia. After reading about it, I do not have many of the pressure points. After reading everything about Lyme Disease, I believe I have Chronic Lyme. All I'm saying is be your own health advocate. Consider all the possibilities.
  5. Anyone out there been banded and have Chronic Lyme Disease? How are you doing? Has the band made anything better or worse?

    Insurance Bummer!

Talked to my insurance today. Found out that I have to be under 50 BMI to get lapband. Which means I have to loose 45 pounds on top of the 15 I've lost. Now, if I could loose 60 pounds on my own....why would I need surgery!

    1st Bariatric Support Group Meeting

Went to the meeting last night. Was surprised how many people were there! They must of all been hiding in their houses because I've been feeling like one of the biggest in my town! Ahhh, the feeling of belonging. Most of the people either had or were having Gastric Bypass. A few banders were there. Nothing swayed me to gastric bypass. One bypass patient talked to me afterwards and is 3 years out and struggling to keep the weight off. My thoughts were if it was a lapband she had, she could get a fill to help! This is when it truely sank in for me that this a tool and there are options for use. I'm also one of those people that if it medically can happen, it will be me. So, my big concern is about the band erroding into my stomach. Then I thought, well if that happens I'll need major surgery and they can just do the sleeve or gastric bypass then! One thought sticks in my mind. A patient on TV said that he would rather do this surgery and die trying to be healthier than just dying.

    sleep apnea?

I take sleep meds and I did take them for the study. Seems to me it took about 15 min to hook up all the leads. I woke up at 6:00 am and they said I could go home if I want, they had what they needed.

    Emotional Eating

Ok, I went on a binge Thursday. I went to the funeral home to support a friend who lost her great grandson. He was 3 months old when he died. It was so sad. My friend was in shock, as was the whole family. I went back to work and just started eating. Munching on anything. Ate dinner that night. Had a hot fudge sunday after dinner......

Need some help and advice, quick!

From what I have researched and read, after 5 or 6 years the weightloss is the same for the gastric bypass and the band.

    sleep apnea?

Liftingchic, try different ones. I first had a mouth mask with nasal pillows. I'd wake up because of dry mouth, nose hurting due to the air pressure/dryness and the pillows would blow out of my nose. I like the idea of the pillows though. I decreased the air pressure on my left nostril by putting a rubber band around the base of the pillow. My skin around the edge of my nostril was irritated, so I cut a piece of flannel with two holes and put them under the rubber bands. I then made a strap with flannel and velcro to hold the pillows in my nose.. I still had problems though. I now have a nasal mask and love it. Not the gel kind (that irritated my skin), but with a rubber cushion. Also switched my machine for a Fisher/Paykel Sleep Style 600. This machine puts out more humidity and comes with heated coils in the tubing. Hence, rain out is less likely so you can do higher humidity. With the nasal mask I could actually turn down the humidity. A feature I liked on the old machine that this one doesn't have is that when you breathe out the air pressure goes down. But I've gotten useto this. Also I purchased on-line a filter that attaches to the tube but before the mask. Was surprised by how much dirt was captured by this filter even though the machine has a filter too! Would recommend getting the filter to everyone. Check it out on cpapexchange.com. You really have to hang in there to get useto it. In the beginning I also experienced some chest soreness. I guess from the air pressure blowing up my lungs, but that has gone away. Another thing I did...with the nasal mask I have this plastic thing across my forehead. Couldn't stand the two cushions on it. They created pressure points on my forehead and hurt. So, I took the cushions off and now cut a piece of a hand towel and put that between my forehead and the hard plastic. Now no problems! Yes, I really worked at making this work. I watched a TV show about a person who had a heart attack because they had sleep apnea and their heart just couldn't handle the stress anymore. Convinced me! Get creative!

    More than 10 years?

I was just wondering if anyone out there has had a lapband in place for more than 10 years? If so, are you having any problems? Thanks for responding to my curiosity!
