    Banded Teachers Talk - BTT

Love this thread!!! I'm an assistant principal at a high school with around 1200 kids. I used to be a reading specialist....... I've taught everything from 1st grade to 5th grade and Reading Recovery. I see my job as a benefit because I often only have time for a few bites of lunch and I drink water throughout the day. That's a little difficult because I often go from 6:30-3:30 without going to the bathroom!! Wild wild days!! Let's keep this thread going! It's great!

    White Lies

I really really regret telling so many people, and if I'd known things wouldn't change that much, I wouldn't have! I did tell people that I was having hiatal hernia surgery and that my esophogus was damaged from so much reflux (all true), so that's the reason for the dietary changes (especially because I was the world's biggest Diet Coke addict and everyone knew that)...... I haven't had a carbonated beverage since Aug. 26!!! I still eat out with my group of friends and I eat much less but I do eat many of the same things that I did before. If you don't make a big deal out of it, they likely won't either! GOOD LUCK!

    This body is a Onederland!

CONGRATS to you all!!!! I'm at 200, and I was SO hoping for even a .5 pound loss so I could get the "1" today........ no such luck!! Probably because I had a margarita last night! The weirdest thing..... I haven't had one in a long long time, and it usually takes 2 for me to feel loopy. After 1/2 of one last night, I was in la la land! Very strange!! Here's looking forward to the "1"!!!

    Snacks or No Snacks?

I don't snack, and it gives me the most amazing feeling of control...... weird, I know!!
  5. Two pieces of advice: 1) EXERCISE! I was losing slowly, but since I've started a real exercise program, it's coming off much quicker! 2) Be aggressive with your fills. It took 5 fills for me, and I could still stand to be a little tighter. You will not believe how your life will change! I just returned from a trip to Washington, DC with over 100 people, and I had NO PROBLEM keeping up. I could go on and on and on....... the difference is AMAZING!!

    Overcharged for surgery?

Wow, that's pretty incredible. I was cash pay, and I paid $13K. Much better!! No wonder our insurance is so crazy!!

    Tired

My trainer has told me that with my diet and all the exercise, if I'm not getting AT LEAST 8 hours of sleep every night that my body is not going to re-build itself. She said it was a HUGE mistake to not get enough sleep right now!! It's probably your body saying, "REST PLEASE!!"

    Sliming--UGH!

I eat a green salad with chicken salad on top almost every single day, and I had never had a problem before. Guess in 8 months, I have never had good restriction either!! Woo hoo! I love restriction!! LOL!!

    Sliming--UGH!

OK, so I've read a zillion posts about sliming, but didn't really pay attention because I've never experienced it! I was banded in August, and I went for my 5th fill on Wednesday. I started eating normal foods again yesterday. I slimed BIG TIME after eating a salad at lunch and then even worse at a restaurant last night. I finally had to leave. I kept going to the restroom to spit........UGH! What's up with that? Does it mean I'm too tight?? Will I always do this?? :paranoid

    Sweating less?

I definitely don't sweat as much, but I'm not getting cold that much either. Guess I'm at a happy medium. Princess doesn't like to sweat! ))

    Sliming--UGH!

Thanks for your responses. It is much better today. I brought home my chicken soulvaki from last night, and I ate it for lunch with no sliming!! Maybe I was just more careful?? I have been somewhat of a slow loser because I've never really had good restriction. I've lost 50 pounds since August, but I have 50 to go. I have started exercising though, and I've noticed the weight coming off MUCH faster!! Hope I never do the slime-thing again!!!!!

    Losing weight

One word: EXERCISE (I HATE it too, but the difference in weight loss is simply amazing!)

  14. I just had my FIFTH fill today. My port is usually tilted too, but it's no big deal. It does move around in there, and my doc says that's perfectly normal. Thank goodness for fluoro!!

    1 week post op. starving.

Those first 3 or 4 weeks were HELL for me! I was STARVING and so nauseated all the time. You'll look back on it and wonder how you managed to survive, but trust me, IT IS SOOOO WORTH IT!! Hang in there...... it'll be over before you know it. It took me 4 fills and 3 months to get restriction!

Help! I have a swollen mouth!

I had very similar symptoms, and it turned out to be a severe sinus infection, of all things!! I thought I would die from the jaw pain!!! Hope you get it resolved!

    AUGUST Bandsters

I'm so so very glad to hear from my fellow August bandsters!! We must be a small group! I've hit the 50 pound mark. I didn't get a really good fill until November, and I have finally been able to start exercising. It has made a big difference!! I go Wednesday for another fill (#5). The doc told me that as we lose visceral fat, the band needs to be tightened! People are FINALLY starting to notice my weight loss....... I've gone from a tight size 22 to a size 16! Woo hooo!!!!!!
  18. Well, well, well, it's true!! Exercise does work!! I've been banded for 8 months, and the weight is coming off slowly but surely; however, I have had NO TIME (literally) to exercise. I couldn't even fit in a 20 minute walk. Now that my schedule isn't as packed, I joined a gym and got a short-term personal trainer. OH MY GOSH the weight is falling off now! I am amazed!! I know everyone knows in their head that exercise makes a difference, but I would give anything if I'd been able to start before now!! Soooo, my point is, if at all possible, GO OUT AND DO IT!! Get some vigorous exercise, and you'll be amazed!!! :clap2:

    Now I'm a believer!

My trainer is only $150 month and that includes full use of the cardio equipment anytime/any day. The personal training sessions are 3 days a week, and it's a lot of weight training.... some free weights, some bands, and some machines. Of course you don't have to pay to get this, but it sure did get my butt in gear!!!

    Waiting for Under 200....

I'm with you!!!!!! I have 5.5 pounds left to go!! I did an extra 15 minutes on the treadmill today. Gotta bump it up a little to get there I guess!!!
  21. Took me 4 fills............ almost time for another one!
  22. Took me 4 fills.......... it's actually time for another one!!!

    thinking of lap bang

No regrets, but my doc is a conservative "filler" too! Makes weight loss oh so slow!!!!

    Last straw stories

My last straw was a double whammy. My perfectly healthy, normal weight mom had a catastrophic stroke which paralyzed her left side. My thinking was: 1) I WILL have a stroke if I don't lose weight....... she was the perfect size and still had a stroke and 2) for 1 1/2 years, we have had to lift her to do everything. We have been able to keep her home and do this with round the clock help, BUT if she were my size, we would never be able to lift her ourselves, and she would have to go into a nursing home. I don't want to put my own daughter through that!!
  25. I could still eat large amounts of food until after my 4th fill....... there was so little restriction that the food would pass right thru my pouch. Now that I have restriction, I can tell a huge difference! I'm sure you're fine, but don't take those risks!!
