Hey! I have the 10 cm. Inamed band, i guess it's the standard size, or the one that's used the most. I was doing some research about how many cc's it holds, cuz honestly I hadn't looked into that, and looks like it holds 4 cc's. I got a 3.2 cc fill....it's not wonder my doctor was a little surprised. After the fill my restriction has been great. I've been on a liquid diet ever since my fill last wednesday, and I haven't been hungry, which is great because I had been pretty hungry up until then. I'll have to do some added research as to how much it holds, but I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Well...guess that's it!

Hi, Well, seems like we've been through similar situations. A life of failed dieting can do a lot of damage to willpower. So keep your head up...we're in this, so let's make it work. I researched a medical group called OCCIMEDGROUP, they do surgery in Guadalajara as well as in TJ. I have family in Guadalajara, so I decided to go for surgery here. Dr. Eduardo Jaramillo was the one who performed the surgery. Dr. Nelson Rodriguez had a conference in France, so he couldn't make it, but everything went great. They are very professional, and it just felt right. Take care.

Sorry, it took me a while to answer that. Well for now I'm getting my fills in Mexico, because I'm still here. I come back to Mexico quite often. But my surgeons have mentioned that if I ever I need a fill and can't make it to Mexico, they can reffer me to a couple doctors. Good luck!

Hi everyone, Now that we're talking about meanies....I had particular experience before my surgery. My husband was totally against me going through surgery, and to say the least he was mean about it. Some of them agreed, some didn't, but he was the one who brought it up, even though I had planned on keeping it to myself atleast until well after surgery. But anyway, at one point, he was a little buzzed and as some family members and I discussed how the LAP-Band worked, and the results that you can get if you do your part, he mentioned that my end result would be lots of skin. SO yeah, that was a bummer. I obviously asked him to support me. I also asked him for his opinion, and he simply said it made no sense, because I had already made my mind up. So that was pre-op, but he was definitely there for me during surgery and post-op. My pre-op days were an emotional roller-coaster, I can honestly say. I understood my husband's concern in that any surgical procedure involves risk and what not. His bit deal was that since I am a nutritionist myself, and had been loosing weight after breastfeeding, he thought I could do it on my own. And maybe this is true, but after a life of battling with being overweight, and struggling with diets here and there, I guess I just needed a tool that could help me FOR ONCE in my life, reach my goal weight. He has an incredibly fast metabolism, so he can eat just about anything and gain little to no weight! So, obviously he will never understand what it's like to have weight problems. Yeah, so I had my share of meanies....AT HOME!!! but it still doesn't justify his nasty attitude. This web page has helped me stay on track. It's been a little more than a month since surgery, and I feel great. I haven't lost a whole lot of weight (16 lbs), but that's expected, especially considering the weight I lost before surgery, and the fact that I have a thyroid problem. Either way, I'm very happy about my decision, and I would recommend it for any low BMI. Let's also remmember that my line of work in a way demands a certain image, although it shouldn't be that way. My patients look up to me as a role-model, and I wasn't a role model before. Thanks for hearing me out. Erika

Hey there!! I was at about BMI of 36 2 months pre-op. I'm a dietician, yet I've always struggled with obesity. My all time high was 250 in high school. I managed to lose about 105 lbs. with diet and excercise. Of course this all went away after having a baby. I was stuck at 205. After a year of breastfeeding I went on a 1200 calorie diet and managed to lose about 25 pounds. I decided to get the lap band when I was at a BMI of about 33. So obviously, theoretically I wasn't a lap band candidate. However, I underwent surgery in Mexico, guadalajara to be exact. The entire experience was great. I haven't had a since episode of what people call PB's (productive burping), which I attribute to the dietary guidelines my surgeon and dietician have recommended along the way. ANYWHO....look into your options. Research A LOT. I didn't before hand.....but I lucked out. I found a wonderfull group of surgeons. Glad to guide you with whatever might come up in your journey. I absolutely believe that LAP-Band surgery is a great option. Limiting low BMI's from getting is like saying, you have to be closer to death in order to get it!! As a patient and dietician, I believe it's a great tool...NOTE: TOOL, not miracle solution. Good luck. Hope this helped.

I am 4 days post-op. I'm definitely excited about this journey athough a bit fearfull dietwise. My lap band surgery was performed in Mexico & I was told to carry out a clear liquids diet, which.....is really difficult. I truly am starving. I've seen that US surgeons or dietitians recommend certain protein supplements, which in my opinion, is most adecuate. Considering the very low calorie intake I have at this point, I'm going to lose muscle mass!! I don't want that to happen. I don't want to overstress my band, and I'm willing to do everything in order to assure the placement of my band. Can someone give me some advice on how to take care of my band while still making sure my nutritional status isn't at risk. I would really really appreciate it!! THANKS!!

4th Day Post-Op In need of Advice!
Erika27 replied to Erika27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked my dietician, and she advised that I do clear liquids up until 5 days post op and then pass on to full liquids, which allows me to add protein shakes. That's TODAY! So that's definitely exciting. Like I said. Yesterday was a dificult day for me hunger wise, so I think adding the protein shakes will help me stay satisfied. Any particular protein shake that you might recommend. I'm in Mexico right now so many of the protein shakes available in the states aren't available here, HOWEVER my brother is flying in next week, so he might be bring it to me. I figure even if I pass on to the puree phase, I can still continue to have a protein shake now and then, don't you think? So it seems like today is going to be a better day for me. In terms of discomfort, I'm feeling great. The swelling in my belly seems to be going down, which is a relief. I'm excited and can't wait to start seeing results, although I do understand that that takes time. I'm in this for the long haul. I'm glad I found a spot to point out my concerns and not feel so lonely in this. Well....Take care everyone...and let's enjoy the journey. -
4th Day Post-Op In need of Advice!
Erika27 replied to Erika27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:smile2:WOW, well, Thanks. I guess it does seem hard at this point, but I'm sure it gets better. My only concern is the muscle loss...although I know I'm bound to loss muscle mass no matter what, I just wanted to make sure I'm doing things correctly. Today was one of those days where everything seemed tempting:drool:. I honestly did cheat....I had a chocolate fudge popsicle and a bite size reese's pieces. I'm having trouble ONLY having liquids. I know I have to be strong. I'm ON the other side...and that should be a reminder to me that I should be greatfull and take care of my lap-band instead of pushing it. Nothing happened after my slip today....so there's no need to dwell...And even with my little cheating I didn't go over 1000 calories, so I should be OK. I guess I just have to continue with my clear liquid diet until I get a green light on the next phase. Thanks everyone for your advise.
