    No appetite at all.....

hi, just a little suggestion here. . .i'm 5 months out and don't use the protein stuff anymore (too boring) BUT what i used to do is mix the powder into stuff. . .i had vanilla and chocolate powders, so i would take a scoop of vanilla and mix it into my flavored yogurts, or take the chocolate powder and mix it into the vanilla yogurt or pudding. . . tastes pretty good. . .just a suggestion. . .

    Question about first day home

Being a very independable person, I didn't need anyone, however, my hubbie and daughter where at home . . . I came home and carried on like normal. . but then of course this having been my 18th major surgery I knew what my limitations were and what i could do. . .so in other words, you do what you think you can do, if you have a really low threshold to pain and movement, maybe you need someone, if you are independant and can do a lot by yourself and know how to control your pain, you'll be ok. . remember not to lift heavy things, don't do any heavy housework, follow the doctor's orders and you'll be fine. . . good luck

    I would appreciate a mentor....

Hi, sorry i've not posted for a while, been really busy with work and home. . . glad to hear you got home ok and sorry about your brother, but that is the dementia and not you. . .I'm glad you got things going and feel good about them. . . how are you feeling? how are things going sleeve wise? how much have you lost now? keep up the excellent work, your doing wonderfully. . . til i hear from you again. . . .
  5. Yup, that is exactly what i said in the beginning too. . . i wished there would have been a trial thing or something you know "try before you buy". . but unfortunately there wasn't. . .take some prilosec or nexium or some sort of acid reducer for your heartburn. . eat more Proteins (yeah I know your sick of that) like cheese, tuna, fish, egg (might not agree with you) yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. . . keep only soft foods in your new tummy. . .the hunger pangs are really not good, have those all the time, but that is something the nexium or prilosec should help with a bit. . . then face the fact your literally stuck with this thing and do the best you can to accept it and live your life. . . this is the best advice i can give you. . .been there, done that. . i've dealt with it, and now i carry on having lost quite a bit over the past 4 1/2 months. . . would I do it again? probably not, but am i glad i did it? yes i am. . . good luck and keep us posted. . .

    Linda's update!!!

Wow, what a horrible time your sister is having of all this. . .1 out of 6 and it had to be her huh? That is terrible. . . my question is why did he do 6 surgeries? Don't they limit themselves? Wow, my doctor only does 4 a day and that is it! Terrible what happens when money is a factor! I'm so sorry this happened to her, so very sorry. . but i'm very glad she is ok and on the road to recovery. . is she at least back in a Canadian hospital or still in TJ? Bless her heart. . .prayers and best wishes go out to her and your family. . . take care and keep us posted. . .
  7. It's a phase or something, I don't know why we do that sorry thing to ourselves, but we do, I know I did. . .but you know after you get your sleeve done, it's only the first few months you need to be a bit careful and boost that weight loss. . . after that it's whatever (for me anyhow) I eat whatever I want now, only in baby portions. . my husband says I eat really sucky and worse than a kid. . .for example for breakfast i had 2 toast and coffee . . . lunch 4 oz mac and cheese. . . dinner 1oz pork cutlet (about 6 bite sized pieces) and about 2 tbspn of potatoe. . .that's it. . . and my tummy really squeezes me a lot with that amount of food! I don't snack often, but when i do, it's usually with a few nuts or some turkey jerky. . . every now and then I have a sugar free ice cream or a piece of chocolate. . . hasn't hurt me at all!! Haven't stalled yet in this past 4 1/2 months doing what i do either . . . so good luck to you!

    Dishes/utensils... recommendations?

I used (still use/ I'm 4 1/2 months out) a teacup saucer for my plate and just a regular teaspoon and fork. I didn't go and buy anything new. . . but let me tell you, after you are used to using these plates when you go anywhere to eat, the portions seem HUGH!!!!!! :confused1:

    NSV shout outs

well got onto the scale this morning (won't be changing the ticker til Monday though) and guess what i saw??? 248 lbs. . . i actually began to worry a bit. . I haven't weighed that in I don't know when. . .maybe in the beginning of high school cause i weighed 220 at 12 yrs old. . . it's really freaky how good this sleeve works, but scary at the same time. . . ok, so now on Monday if i'm like 245 that will really get me. . .hahahahaha wanting to loose weight for so long and now i'm worrying about it. . . stupid huh????? anyone else got weird like this????

    helpplease need advice

Yup lots of gas noises is normal (I'm 4 1/2 months out and still have gurgly noises alot). . diarrhea is normal too for a while at least til your tummy adjusts. . .also if you had the leak test done before you went home from the hospital, it's all that contrast that is coming out, so be glad. . .you will definately know which pain is from drinking and which is from incisions. . . your body is different from mine, so it will react different to many things. . . just do what your doctor told you to do and you'll be ok. . . good luck. . .
  11. Seemed just like yesterday you were being approved by your insurance to have this sleeve and now look at you! Glad to hear all is going well with you and that you've had such a fantastic weight loss, keep up the good work, in no time flat you'll be at your weight goal. . . good luck and keep checking in with us every now and then!

    Now I'm Worried!

YOUR SO CUTE!!! Good question though, honey when you get your surgery your going to understand. . let me tell you, I NEVER got my surgery in Mexico, I got it right here in the US, and I definately didn't feel bad at all after the surgery, but you betcha i had my tummy removed big time! I'm going on 4 1/2 months out and can only eat 2 - 4 oz at a meal, no more, definately nothing bogus here. :wink1:. . . you'll see. . . good luck!

    I would appreciate a mentor....

Well you are in Missouri by now, did you do ok on the plane trip? I'm sure you did. . you'll be ok with your brother, what ever is to be will be. . just have the faith and whatever the path is you'll walk it. . . I know, isn't it amazing about the knees? I was told i need a double knee replacement, i was like "doctor YOU need the knee replacement" and vowed never to have that done ever! Since i've lost my weight, i creek abit, but at least they don't hurt. . . yippee. . . I'm so glad you've gotten an extra day off when you get back. . you will be tired and will be glad you took that day. . .honey i'm here anytime you need me, so is everyone else! Just keep posting and keep up the excellent work. . . are you going to post a ticker? It helps us stay on track. . . have a good one and good luck with everything . . .
  14. I can't talk for everyone, but i know i am sure having A LOT of hairloss, when i brush my hair i have to literally pull out the hair out of the brush in order to continue brushing my hair. . it's terrible, but at least i know that it'll grow back eventually. . I'd rather be thin and feeling good and have a hair loss then have beautiful hair and really obese. . . life is full of sacrifices we must pick ours. . . my hubbie always says "you can't have your cake and eat it too" . . . good luck!

    stomach getting bigger?!

have you discussed this with your PCP? don't really know what to tell you about that. If you've decreased the calories AND the carbs (<40g daily) then you shouldn't be getting bigger. . are you gaining? getting in enough fluids? just thoughts flying through. . . sorry i'm not more of a help. . .
  16. thinoneday

    Calm before the storm

You will do fine! We all did, this was my 18th major surgery and i flew through it. . .i really don't know what you would tell little kids other than what you plan to tell them. . .mine is grown, so she drove me to the hospital and waited for the doctor to talk to her and so on, she stayed with me the 3 days i was there. Good luck, nerves are normal! Your going to do great!

    My APRON ----UGHHHH!!!!

Well, i'm just very blessed to have survived this 18th surgery and losing weight that i really don't care about the apron. . .mine isn't that bad anyhow, but what is to be is to be, I'm not vane enough to change it.:thumbup1:
  19. Yeah, cut the bandaids in half to make a steristrip, then get to the pharmacy and ask if they have steristrips, then put them on there crosswise, not lenghtwise. . .this will help

    Am I stupid..hmmm

I have come to learn (very quickly) that if my tummy starts to squeeze a bit i had better stop stuffing food into it because in the beginning i would think "oh just one more bite" yeah right! that one more bite certainly bit me back. . I was in 'god call me an ambulance" pain for about 20 - 30 minutes with the slimes and everything. . . now if i feel the slight squeeze after a couple bites i stop right then and there i really hate that squeezy feeling. . . i also have found that "hard" food doesn't agree very well, like toast, crackers, sausage, fruit, certain vegatables, etc. . . so i like to stay with my soft stuff, yogurt, cheese, very well cooked rice and mac/cheese, eggs, etc. . . i'm such a baby. . . hehehe:001_tt2:
  21. You are totally AMAZING!!!! You are absolutely AWESOME!!! you look fabulous in the dress, it's too cute! Wow you have transitioned so much, you were cute before, but girl your really cute now! Total inspiration to all of us!!!!!!!:thumbup1:
  22. Well it really depends on your own pain comfort level. . if you have a real low tolerance for pain, yeah it's going to hurt, but if you have a high pain tolerance it'll be about a 5-6 or so, but it's more of a pressure pain then screaming for an ambulance pain. . . this was my 18th major surgery and i have a high pain tolerance, they did the surgery at about 12 noon and because i can't take versad or valium they give me 50 mg of IV benedryl, so I sleep through everything. . .I woke up fully at about 8pm, called the nurse to lower the rails, got up and walked the entire lenght of the hallway x 2 no real pain, just pressure, and during the night i did the same. . that morning I was up walking the halls all day long, pressure pain, but I figured they worked on my tummy not my legs, I did have bad gas pain though, that hurt more than the tummy pain. . . but walking helps alot. . . hope this helps but remember everyone is different and will have different pain levels.. . good luck:biggrin0:

  24. Girl you need a good poop. . take something, miralax, or magnesium citrate or something. . you have to move those bowels. . .not only will you feel sooooo much better but you may lose a couple of pounds. . .i was told that taking the calcium supplements plus the protein will constipate you big time. . . sooooo after doing some research, i stopped taking my calcium supplement and "halleluia". . . good luck. . . keep us posted and know that we are all here for you. . .

    Anti-depressant

My doctor did not restrict me from swallowing pills whole. I really don't know why some doctors do that. I haven't had any problems at all swallowing pills. . . good luck
