I am loving my sleeve too
thinoneday replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What a great suggestion! I'm going to try that next time! Thanks -
EWWWWWWW what an a$$ he is. . . I really don't have any respect for doctors who believe they are all that and a bag of chips! That is terrible, I would tell my PCP about him and have the PCP maybe recommend someone else. . . wow! that is sooooo very unprofessional!

blender, food processor, whatever...
thinoneday replied to erh92's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a real cheapie, so I just used my ordinary blender from 1970! I'm so serious, it's even that ugly almond color! :sad0:. . . but honestly I don't think it really matters what blender/food processor you use, as long as it blends your food to mushies. . . :001_tongue: -
Help with back issues?
thinoneday replied to Syry180's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Immore, I am so sorry to hear about your back pain. . . that must be really bad. I hope for your sake, that your surgery (back surgery) will help you. my thoughts are with you -
Thinking about giving up...
thinoneday replied to brittu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bless your heart! I refused to jump through the loops and be a puppet with the insurance company. I was self pay and got a really good rate through a loan through the bank. At 3.2% i couldn't resist. It went really fast too. I started the process in October (seminar) and had my surgery said and done December 29, 2009. Much better then dealing with stupid insurance company. Good luck! -
Help with back issues?
thinoneday replied to Syry180's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi! welcome and congratulations on your up coming surgery date. As a heavy weight (350 lbs at my heaviest) you can only imagine the back pain issues that i have dealt with. Well let me tell you that after having a sustantial amount of weight, i have hardly any issues with back pain. occasionally my back will twinge to let me know to still be careful but nothing as bad as before. I can bend and tie my shoes without pain, put on my socks without problems and make the bed without problems. . it definately has helped my back . . as well as my knees. I was a candidate for bilateral knee replacements but i refused stating that i would NEVER do that, the weight loss has help immensely! I still have "weak" knees and need to watch what i'm doing but they don't hurt as badly as before either. . so the wls has helped me. . . good luck and hope i answered your question, but this is just my experience with the surgery! -
Nothing cause I eat whatever I want, in moderation of course. . including alcohol 1-2 drinks only though, go straight to my head they do! hehehe. . . before the sleeve, my problem was portion control and not junk food eater. . . when i discussed this with the surgeon, he told me i would be an excellent candidate since this surgery controls portions. . . I eat healthy stuff, cheese, meat, veggies, fruits, tons of water, sugar free desserts if i have any, nuts, seeds, etc. . . but it's portion controlled. . . tonight i was really happy that i actually finished 1 whole hamburger (small one) with a slice of cheese and a pickle. . . then about 2 hours later about 6 chucks of fresh pineapple and a little bit of nuts. . . if i feel like eating ice cream, i have it, but it's sugar free and about 100 calories only. . . so nope, no missing foods here at all and loving it. . .

NO Thank YOU! Have tried all sorts of diet aids and that one definately isn't one i'd try again unless you like wearing panty liners all the time in fear of oopies all the time. . good luck!

Surgery Monday-Scared to death
thinoneday replied to JillianMarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It'll be ok, just think of the positives that this surgery will bring to your life. . it'll take away some things too though, no longer will you be a prisioner of food and gluttony, you'll sip fluids like a lady and you'll not have to wear those really big clothes anymore. . .actually it's fun when you look in your closet at the smaller clothes and think "OMG this will never fit me" and then in a few weeks you get brave, try it on and it's too big! that is so neat. . .you know honey what i do to handle the surgery nausea? I request that they give me 50 mg of benedryl IV just before I am wheeled into surgery. . . the benedryl keeps you sleeping (yes they still wake you up and bother you) and you pass the nausea stage. . .I do this for ALL my surgeries (I've had 18 major surgeries including this one) the benedryl is a life saver! You may want to suggest this to the surgeon/anesthestia . . but the jitters are normal. . .you'll be ok though. . .good luck! -
Having second thoughts
thinoneday replied to texaschick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you feel that way, but maybe you really aren't ready for the surgery. . you might need to wait until your really ready. . . there are alot of posts about those of us who wish we hadn't done it, and alot of us who haven't lost much. . .maybe you need to hunt a bit more into the posts. . . good luck on your decisions. . . -
I am 5 months out and eat a variety of everything. . .your body will definately let you know what it likes and what it doesn't like. . . for example for me bread and tortillas are definately out unless it's toasted VERY well (almost burnt) otherwise forget it, big time pain. . . also certain veggies don't agree with me, broccoli, green peas, corn and cabbage. . .big time sliming and pain. . . cake, ice cream, chocolate, dried fruit and raw fruit, no go. . . sliming and pain. . . so you will learn in time what you can handle and what you can't handle. . .the thing is you are still not eating as much as you used to and that is the overall idea right? Good luck!

Energy level???
thinoneday replied to pastorgregumc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, my energy level is lower then grandma! hehehe. . .no seriously, I go to work, drag through that and come home and am in the bed by 9pm! I sleep like the dead and at 6 am when the alarm rings I feel so dragged out and lifeless that i vow to come to bed earlier that evening. . . I take my B12, multivitamins and so on, but i guess i don't eat many calories though (maybe 750 - 800 I've slid back to old habits of missing meals and eating on the run. . not too many carbs though still watch that but get those in too, good ones, not bad ones) but as yourself, my labs are great, doc says i'm doing great, blah blah blah. . . i however, feel blah, very tired. . .I completely understand how you feel. . . if there is a solution out there, please share -
Thanks for sharing that Lan, cause that comment about "I can't stand that I can only eat so little ma...I wish I didn't have this surgery and would have been able to loose the weight through my own self will" is totally how i feel most of the time. . . but there is no turning back, what is done is done, but like you I reassure myself and tell myself it will stabilize and I won't wither away and die . . . my biggest concern is what will happen when i'm a old lady? the elderly already don't eat and get skinny without the sleeve. . . .

You hit the nail right on the head! Adapting is the toughest thing of all with this surgery. . . it's frustrating too. . . I've noticed i've slide into some bad eating habits again. . not too many calories or such but missing meals, eating on the run, if it's not good I won't eat for the day. . . stuff like that. . taking my diurectics cause it'll help me loose more weight. . you know, bad habits we picked up from before. . . those were easy days, I didn't have to think about things. . .i've noticed that i'm losing very very very fast since i've picked that up. . . but that isn't healthy at all. . i'm not weighing (got a bit freaked out when I weighed a couple weeks ago and noticed that I had lost 10 lbs in 4 days, haven't weighed since then) but i can surely tell on my clothes and comments from people. . .maybe once everything gets back to normal, so will i. . . . yeah right????? -

How much food can you really eat?
thinoneday replied to JillianMarie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well I am 5 months out and eat about everything and anything. . .for example this morning for breakfast i had 1 c of sugar free pudding and coffee. . . for lunch 4 oz of lentils and then a metamucil wafer for an afternoon snack, then about 1 cup of whatever there is for supper. . . NO snacking for this porker though, I've tried really hard to avoid snacking, hard, but it's working. . . lots of water and crystal lite too. . . good luck -
Woohoo! You go girl! Great work, keep it up!!!!!:thumbup:

I would appreciate a mentor....
thinoneday replied to breezy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How totally excellent is that! 25 lbs! and off the CPAP. . .now if that isn't the best news i don't know what is! Congratulations As far as the hunger pangs go I've had them since day 1, but what i've done is get used to it. . I'm sorta a control freak when it comes to myself, so I have said that "I'm in total control and not my tummy" . . . so if it growls here and there I either ignore it or just throw some crystal lite down there and carry on:lol0: Some of the folks on this forum never have had the growlies come back. . .that is good, maybe you'll be one of them. . . You'll get used to drinking the fluids, in the beginning it was a challenge for me too, but now at 5 months out that is mostly what i want to do, is to drink drink and drink more. . . mostly crystal lite and plain Water. . . yes the coworkers are a good support team too. . .and your family. . good for you! :w00t: My coworkers call me "flacka" in spanish that means skinny! :lol0: NOT!!!!! Long from that. . . but if it makes 'em happy that is good. . . most of my coworkers are quite obese and my losing weight has given them a bit of an incentive to diet. . . poor souls. . . if they only knew:biggrin0:. . well honey, i'm here for you anytime! I won't let you down. . .I'll be your friend/mentor for as long as you want! Keep up the excellent work and keep doing what your doing, it's working excellently!!!!!:lol0: -
Thank you for your great suggestions! I've done the "if you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all" but we gotta love our families huh????
-
Thank you for your fabulous suggestions and congratulations. . that made me all fuzzy and warm . . . the only reason i get up like that is because the food is sorta "stuck" and when i don't get up i start to slime and that is really nasty. . so getting up and moving about stops that sliming thing and sorta helps to move it down more. . . but i did stay at the table last evening and chattered up a major storm with him. . .he thought i was nutty talking so much:lol0: (32 years of marriage you know! ). . .but alas the 1/2 of the tuna toasted sandwich stayed "stuck" for about 1 1/2 hours BUT no sliming!!!! Yes, I did eat VERY slowly, 1/2 a sandwich 20 minutes with 2 minutes between each bite. . . ugh. . . I will however continue to chat and he will continue to listen!:lol0::lol0: (poor thing). . .

Mama really never has cooked, pappa has . . . but your are probably right, they see this as something different and probably don't like it. . .i do remind them about the positives, and that does stop them for a bit. . . but after about a couple days there they go. . . oh well. . . gotta love your family:001_wub:

Yup, I think you are so right about the eating partner thing. . .DH has mentioned about when we go on vacations now I won't be able to even enjoy a good meal. . .well YEAH I WILL darn it. . . but like you, we used to sit down and eat stuff together (and like John, Irving is a small dude who likes em a bit fuller) when we would go on vacations we would eat and drink away (always at an inclusive) this time it'll be alot different when we go. . . so i think, like you, he doesn't like that he's lost his "eating" buddy and same with Kayla (daughter). . . never really thought about that. . .thanks. . .
