your body is trying to get used to what has happened to it. At least that is how it was explained to me. I had diarrhea up to 5 times a day for the first 3 weeks and then it went away. . hope this helps a bit. . . good luck

What in the world is going on?
thinoneday replied to MommyTawnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, yup you either ate too quickly or too much. . that sliming/foamy thing is your stomach trying to make juices to help digestion, but because our tummies are so very small, up it comes. . so slow down and chew well. . . what i do at 1 year out still, is put a bite in, chew, swallow, wait 2 minutes (yes I time it) and then another bite. . . do this for 15 - 20 minutes and that is your meal. . .wait 30 minutes and have something to drink, but drink slowly. . . this is only what I do, it doesn't mean it's a have to do thing. . . good luck you will eventually learn what works for you! -
Wow that is amazing. . . never heard of such a thing and I'm a RN who has worked in surgery! But again, depends on whatever your nut feels comfortable with. . . hope you'll be ok and good luck!

Coffee -- Need some advice
thinoneday replied to BrittanyAnn1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i totally love the "I realize I will not ever be able to enjoy a large cup of coffee" part. . .OF COURSE YOU WILL. . . only size small will seem Large! I started drinking coffee (decaf at about 4 weeks out with creamer and enjoyed Starbucks at 3 months out and totally drinking whatever coffee i wanted after that. . . doctor didn't say either way if it was bad or good. His concern was weight loss. . . at one year out I'm livin life to the fullest, still loosing, slowly, but loosing! and lovin my cup of java EVERY DAY -
Hi, I was a curves member. . . the program is ok. . but it's very boring. . you just go around in a circle all the time. Machine, change, bounce around, change, machine, change. . .etc. . . I went faithfully for about 4 months and then stopped. . . after my membership came due, I quit and went to Golds. Good luck

Wait!! what's this about no ibuprophen or tylenol?
thinoneday replied to AMLP's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not going to say much here, because you'll get alot of different answers. I'll only say that my doctor told me Ibuprophen no cause it could cause stomach ulcers and tylenol yes which was the med of choice in the beginning. . . I'm 1 year out and take Ibuprophen now whenever i need it without any problems. Dr now says it's ok to take now . . that being said, good luck! -
How long until I understand my new Stomach
thinoneday replied to cludgie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
first off, let me say CONGRATULATIONS!!! Soon you will be a new person. . .now for your answer. . . on my part (and this doesn't mean it'll be like this for you) I'm out 1 year now and am now comfortable with my new tummy. . I can actually eat more about 1200 calories well balanced meals. . I can drink sodas, alcohol, water, whatever i want 8 oz glasses without a problem (not gulping though) I have no problem drinking 64oz of fluids. . .I can eat whatever except steak, that hurts still. . . but it's a learning process. . . you didn't become fat overnight, but your expected to relearn overnight. . .literally. . . it's a learning process and you will eventually learn what hurts from what doesn't. . . just follow doctor orders and you'll do fine. . we are all here for you as well. . .so chat about whatever and remember the only stupid question is the one not asked. . . so ask away that is what we are here for.! Good luck to you! -
Hi there, like Diva said most of us probably had fleeting moments. . . but i'll be honest. . I really hated my sleeve for a good 3 months or so. . . but here is the reason, you are expected to change your lifestyle, eating habits and drinking habits literally overnight. . .you are expected to relearn everything you have been doing wrong to change overnight. . .it's really tough, you are so used to eating really fast, gulping drinks, etc and suddenly your tummy is taken away and you can't do it. . you have to eat slow, chew very well, sip like a proper lady, for me it was 47 years of bad habits to change NOW. . . but you learn as you go, yes you mess up and it hurts but like any learned behavior you eventually learn that eating too fast or drinking too fast or whatever hurts, so you don't want to hurt so you slow down. . .you eventually learn to recognize that "i better not even think about another bite" feeling and you stop. . .it's a learning thing and like any learning thing it's tough. . . you still have to watch what you eat, Proteins first, veggies, next and if (IF) there is room, starches. . . you will learn not to drink with the meals, but 30 minutes after the meals. . .it's a constent learning thing. . .but you'll get it, just like the rest of us. . .I'm out 1 year now and at this point am really glad I had this thing done. . .I know I would have never been able to do it on my own. . . I have struggled and hated it, but now am so used to it, it's second nature. . you'll get there too. . . good luck ! You'll do just as fine!

Lab work came back & it is not 2 good!
thinoneday replied to Strwberriekissesrbetter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, I'm 1 year out now and still am having issues with the liver enzymes. . doctor states it's because of the severity of the surgery. . Vitamin D is another problem along with PTH is low, they are doing bone density tests right now. . malabsorption they call it. . . go figure I eat everything! have a potassium/sodium problem as well as B12. . .my hair is still falling out, it's so thin I think it lost more weight then I have! . . . i'm just one big mess, but i'm taking vitamins as needed and go on living. . . I have a lot of nausea as well, doctor says he doesn't know why . . . but i just carry on and ignore it most times. I find that when my stomach hurts like that I'm usually hungry so I'll have something for me it's usually string cheese, but don't eat that if your lactose intolerant, find your food that helps your tummy. . i figure as long as i'm waking up every morning i'm doing great! Good luck ! -
Well WELCOME Nikki! I'm excited for you too! You are going to be so proud of yourself. In the beginning it's a bit of a challenge, meaning that you have to literally change your lifestyle overnight. . that is a bit tough, you have to relearn basically how to eat and drink. . but you know what we all did it and guess what? Once you "get it" your going to do so very well, like all of us. Know that we are here for you. . for all your questions, for a shoulder to cry on, to rant and rave. . we are your cyberfamily, we understand, we've all been through it. . . so once again WELCOME and post away!

First off Kassie WELCOME!!! At 350+lbs my PCP would tell me "oh you don't need surgery, your not fat" talk about frustrating, so one day I just said to myself "whatever, it's not her having to miss work and pay cause of pain in the knees or back" It's me, she just wants all that co-pay and i found me a doctor here in San Antonio who did the surgeries and went to a seminar with hubbie and together we found the perfect surgery VSG. . .I did it as self pay and within 1 month had it done and now am 1 year out and have lost 145 lbs. . .I've only 25 lbs left before goal, but of course we don't just stop there do we? No we challenge ourselves to keep healthy, heavens we came this far, lets see if this really isn't the true "fountain of youth" Good luck and you'll do fine in whatever decision you choose.

Thin Women, Big Men Make More Money
thinoneday replied to DougNichols's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I really don't know how true this is because when I applied for my job 4 years ago, I was 350 + lbs and I'm the second highest paid as a professional in the City. Maybe they paid me the wage cause no one else wanted it! -

DATE CHANGED!!! I NEEDED A WAY TO KICK MY BUTT
thinoneday replied to ATLGirl's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Good for you!!!!! All I have to say honey, is check out my ticker. . . hopefully this will help motivate you a bit more about the surgery! Good luck! -
I am so sorry that happened to you. . . but sometimes the ones that we love hurt us the most. Our families know that we love them and will forgive them no matter what, I think that is why they are like that towards us, your uncle had a heart attack and is probably worried about ya'll and knows that overweight can kill us (I'm not excusing him for his behavior though, he is an ass). . .as far as that lady goes, well she is just plain rude and insecure. . . can't wait til she sees how well your losing weight! You are so fortunate to have your husband. . . hopefully things won't turn when you start losing a significant amount of weight, husbands are weird that way. . . mine stated he loved me no matter how i looked, but when i started to lose weight, life got a bit more, lets say, challenging. . . it's ok now, it must have been a bit of insecurity on his part. . . just let them know you will love them no matter what and don't harp too much on the insecurities cause that will be like rewarding a bad behavior, just suck it up and carry on, smile and hug alot. . . good luck and keep posting! I really want to know about that lady! hehehe

What an incredible gift you have given yourself. . .I am so proud of you! You and I had our surgeries the same day! I have a few more pounds left but 145 LBs isn't bad either in one year! I am soo glad that we were given talents when we were born to make the discisions we have. . . we have used our talents wisely! We won't be asked why we wasted them. Congratulations again!

thinoneday replied to JamieLynn77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yup you betcha! I'm out 1 year and have head hunger like you won't believe. . . i satisfy it every now and then, could be why i'm losing slower now, but at least i'm not gaining right? Good luck! and just know that it's only a temporary thing, soon you'll be able to eat whatever. . . in smaller amounts of course. -
do you guys want to hear a funny??? maybe it's not a funny, but it's really silly to me. . . tell me what you all think. . . while i was in Jamaica this past October, I had put a bottle of water into the freezer. . . when it was frozen i went to get it . . . my brother in law told me. . . "make sure you don't drink too much ice water, it will make you put on a lot of weight" I thought he was totally daft with that explaination. . . no where have i seen where ice water can make you gain weight . . i'm a registered nurse and in all my years never have i scientifically heard that ice water makes you gain weight. . . it will give you cramps but that is all. . . so what do you all think?

NSV- crying at GoodWill in the dressing room
thinoneday replied to myrori's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
how great is that! I remember trying on a pair of jeans that didn't fit me at all so i kept saying they should fit soon, they should fit soon. . . then when i finally did try them on, i had missed the size! they dropped right off. . . i felt both silly and good at the same time. . .sorta upset too cause they were beautiful jeans that i had never worn, they still had the tag on them and now i couldn't wear them . . . i offered them to my daughter, who has a weight problem as well, but she said they reminded her of "Dorothy" from the golden girls. . . old lady jeans. . . ugh. . . so i just bundled them up and put them up. . . then i tried other things and was amazed at how i had missed sizes. . . it's a neat feeling. . . good for you! keep up the good work. . .
