    That went well.......NOT (long)

I'm glad you're going to wait. . . the wait may be all worth it in the end. There is a reason for everything, we never know where our path in life will bring us. . .these things happen cause they are supposed to happen. . . can you imagine if you crossed faith and didn't wait? Something might go wrong. . . who knows your stuff may get through really fast and by some miracle you'll get it before you know. . . keep you chin up, it'll be here before you know it. . .hubbie might be acting out like this cause of sheer fear. . . a fear of losing you during surgery (needs to go to a seminar with you and hear it himself) a fear of losing you after you lose the weight (he's really comfy with you now, he knows your going to be there. . he may be having security issues) men are weird, they keep everything inside and when they see a little threat, they go snakey and odd. . . you'll be fine, everything will be fine

    That went well.......NOT (long)

Well bless his crazy heart! Hi I'm an ex-Canadian now living in the US who has a really stubborn hubbie right along with me! It took me 1 1/2 years just to try to convince the dude to come to a seminar. . . and that was for the least invasive one (lap band) but he agreed to come with me this past september and after the seminar he told me something that nearly made me fall off my chair. . . after the seminar I asked him what he thought? he stated . . . "well, I really don't want you to have the lapband at all". . . I was so crushed, I was going to yell WHY, but decided to be quiet instead, I just got into my car and looked at him and very quietly asked why not? He said "because I think the sleeve is the better option, I'll totally support you with this but not until January ok?" My first reaction was to yell NO I WANT IT NOW!!!!! but i was grinning from ear to ear and just said ok that was a good plan. . . thinking about that long wait I realized that would give me enough time to get everything in order. . secure the money (self pay, $19,000, he won't let me go to Mexico either!) get enough information on the procedure and so on, so til then I'll just be happy with hubbie and wait til January. . cause I'm self pay my doctor has told me it'll be no problem to get me in when I want. . . so that makes me really happy!!!

    headaches after surgery

Yes, it does sound like what we call a "spinal headache". I've had those before with spinal anesthesia and had to go to the emergency room where they actually take some blood from you and "plug" up the hole from the spinal injection site. The headache is almost relieved instantly. . . those h/a are the most horrible ever! here is a bit of info on it. . . . . A spinal headache can occur as a result of a procedure such as a spinal tap (lumbar puncture) or epidural block (such as that performed during a woman's labor and delivery). In these procedures, a needle is placed within the fluid-filled space surrounding the spinal cord. This creates a passage for the spinal Fluid to leak out, changing the fluid pressure around the brain and spinal cord. If enough of the fluid leaks out, a spinal headache may develop. Because the design of spinal needles has been improved, spinal headaches after a spinal tap or administration of spinal anesthesia are rare. When epidural anesthetics are placed with a larger needle than that used for spinal anesthetics, however, the likelihood of headache is higher if the epidural needle should inadvertently pass through the dura matter (covering of the spinal cord). A spinal headache may occur up to five days after the procedure is performed. Such a headache may be prevented with bed rest after a procedure. What Are the Symptoms of a Spinal Headache? The spinal headache often is described as "a headache like no other." Spinal headaches are much more severe when the person is in an upright position; they improve when the person lies down. How Are Spinal Headaches Treated? The first course of treatment for spinal headaches involves supplying adequate hydration to try to increase cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) pressure. Sometimes intravenous fluids (fluids administered into the veins) are given; other times the person is advised to drink a beverage high in caffeine. Strict bed rest for 24-48 hours is also recommended. In addition, if a person develops a spinal headache following a procedure, the anesthesiologist can create a blood patch with the person's blood to seal the leak. To administer a blood patch, the anesthesiologist inserts a needle into the same space as, or right next to, the area in which the anesthetic was injected. The doctor then takes a small amount of blood from the patient and injects it into the epidural space. The blood clots and seals the hole that caused the leak.

That is sooooo totally true Susan! it's really too bad that money is such a driving factor. . . even these surgeries with the wild costs. . .like they say "there is a fortune in fat" . . . but hopefully after this surgery I won't be a fortune anymore!

    krispy kreme

Wow Chancie, I don't know what to tell you there. . . addiction is a horrible thing and it's tough too. . . sure it's easy for me to say "Just stop and throw away the bag and remember why you got this done in the first place" but that is really tough when a person is literally addicted to it so badly that it controls their life and will to fight for what they want. . . the only thing i can really say is "I'm sorry it's happened to you and hope that one day you'll overcome it" I'm not being mean or nasty or prickly, but I feel so bad for you!

    Pre-Op Diet Scares Me Most

Hi Glogarza! I'm from SA too! I'm having my surgery in January too! I don't have to do a pre op diet. . .Dr. R Cavazos and Gonzalez (NE Baptist) are doing mine. . . they don't think anyone under 50 BMI need a pre op diet. . The preop diet sounds scary huh? But if your wanting it bad enough I guess you can do just about anything. . . good luck!

    My VSG Story

But, I kept thinking to myself, what have you done? Why did my husband let me do this? I must have been crazy to do this. Isn't it funny how when we feel sickly we blame the husband? If he would have told you "no dear your not getting this surgery done", you'd of had a stroke right? I know I would have! Yes, I'm spoilt. . . hehehe. . . wow I'm so amazed how smoothly your surgery went! Thank you so much for sharing that story. . . I would love to go to Mexico for my surgery and maybe safe a few thousand dollars, but hubbie says "No, not to mexico, your staying local regardless of cost". . . heavens my surgeon is Mexican! Go figure!!!! hehehehe. . .

    My Appeal Draft W/references

Except in my case. I have United HealthCare but it does not cover VSG or any bariatric operation for that matter. They told me it was because that is what the employer has chosen. It really is dissappointing especially since I work for the City Health Dept and our medical director is always harping on weight loss and the obesity rate increasing in our area, then when they changed to UHC, they didn't want bariatrics at all on it. . . .go figure????:glare:
  11. I'm so sorry your feeling badly. . .hopefully it's get better before the surgery, what a major disappointment it would be to have to reschedule! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you're better by friday! It's only Tuesday, rest and drink tons of liquids! Get some of those in the shower inhaler things and see if that helps (you get them at WalMart in the cold remedies section. . .

    New here

:scared0:Guess what! I loved your idea of trying to change my fast speeding habit of eating and to chew slowly at least 30 times before swallowing. . I vomited:tongue2:. It was so liquidy and mushie OMG!!!!! it's going to be tough for me. . . but what a wonderful idea! I'm really going to try hard cause I see it's going to take a lot of changing on my part! Thanks for that great idea!!!!!
  13. I'm not sleeved yet, but when I get into my "moods" and get really disqusted with myself I turn those Discovery Health TV when they have the super obese on and watch how much they eat. . .they actually show close ups of them putting food into their mouths. . . I get so grossed out. . . but i'm quilty of the same thing. . . that is what made me this way. . .
  14. Here is what I found on the subject. . . . hope it helps a bit. . . thanks, this is copy and paste, it doesn't come from me. . . H. pylori infection occurs when a bacterium called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infects your stomach or the first part of your small intestine. H. pylori infection is thought to be present in about half the people in the world. For many people, H. pylori infection causes no signs or symptoms and doesn't lead to any complications. But for others, H. pylori can lead to serious complications, such as ulcers and stomach cancer. In the United States, H. pylori infection rates are declining. In turn, the rates of serious complications are also declining. Most cases of H. pylori infection produce no signs or symptoms. Signs or symptoms that can occur with H. pylori infection include: An ache or burning pain in your abdomen Nausea Vomiting Frequent burping Bloating Weight loss When to see a doctor Make an appointment with your doctor if you notice any persistent signs and symptoms that worry you. Seek immediate medical help if you experience: Severe or persistent abdominal pain Difficulty swallowing Bloody or black tarry stools Bloody or black vomit or vomit that looks like coffee grounds H. pylori infection is caused by the H. pylori bacterium. H. pylori is primarily passed from person to person through direct contact with saliva or fecal matter. H. pylori can also be spread through untreated Water. H. pylori bacteria enter your body through your mouth and passes into your digestive system. The stomach and its stomach acid make a hostile environment for many bacteria. But the H. pylori bacterium is especially well-adapted for survival in the stomach. It produces an enzyme that, through a series of biochemical processes, creates a low-acid buffer zone for itself.

    when do others notice?

my plan is going to keep them guessing. I work as a registered nurse and have tons of uniforms which i'll keep wearing baggy or not, if a comment is past if i'm losing weight, i'll just say "oh. . . does it look like it? Thanks" and leave it at that. Keep 'em guessing is a lot of fun! For me I have to lose tons of weight for anyone to really notice, I'm 6'0" tall and very very big boned (should have been a man huh?) so after I lose about 50 to 60 lbs people start to notice something is different.

Welcome hon! Hey, you and me are going to have our surgeries in January! I am really excited. I've been on this form since Sept and have met a lot of nice folks. Look at the photos and you'll be able to put a face to a name with some of them. . they look great! They have done so well. . . don't worry I eat really fast too, I blame that on the military (they don't eat leisurely) . We'll have to keep in touch and share our experiences as well. . :001_huh:

The last time I gave advise, I got "yelled at" so if I insult you accept my apologies from now. . . as long as you enjoyed that donut and don't do it often, you go and enjoy your donut. . .like Susan said you didn't get the sleeve to deprive yourself of treats once in a while. . . don't feel bad! at least it was 1 and not the whole box right?
  19. Thank you Nikski for your message you left me. . it was nice to hear from you. I haved been sleeved yet, but am waiting. . . I hear so many positives from everyone, I can't wait! i'm having this done locally close to home, so hopefully my recovery will go fast too. . . good luck and best wishes to you hon

    Depression After Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Hi, just like Lan2K, I too will be getting together with a therapist. . I've been told that a therapist during the "journey" is a good thing along with a support group. . . any help will be definately looked for, like ya'll on these forums. . your a great inspiration and great ears, I will definately continue with this! Depression majors sucks, I had it super bad when I was in my 20's (I'm now 47) I even attempted suicide (as you see it didn't work! I'm greatful) I was in therapy, hospitals, lots of meds. . . finally I just said "STOP IT" and repeated it over and over and over everytime I would start feeling blue, I told my shrink I was stopping all meds on my own, he warned me against it, but I did it anyhow. . .I hated that detached head feeling everyday. . . guess what! I'm drug free, I don't get depressed anymore and when those feeling creep up I yell as loud as I can in my head "STOP IT! WHATS WRONG WITH YOU" Then I go right away and concentrate on something else, my weeding, a book, crocheting, a HOT shower (always works, one day I took about 4 HOT showers, I was very clean) I'm ok now though and feel that I've won that battle, with this new transformation, I will definately seek the care of a therapist though, cause I can see where it could hurt someone. . especially if your not used to getting looks from men, whistles, etc. . .good luck all!

    Emotional eating, mixed emotions

Lots of us understand your pain Steph, I myself have had a tragedy simular to yours with my dog. . .he was 2 years old (I got him at 7 weeks old) and he WAS one of my kids. . . if my husband would be outside messing in the garden, there was Blaza digging right long side him, if I and the kids were at the beach, there was Blaza right long side us. . . it was like he understood all we talked about, he hated the vet, just like kids hate the doctor, he loved presents and everything. . . only 1 problem existed though, he was bred as a protection dog (he might not of known it) but he was 120LB giant german shepherd bred for the police. He loved his family, but nobody else, he was alway brissly if anyone came to the house (needed to be penned up in the runway when company came over) he had to be fed a weiner with 4 valium to sedate him with a mussel in order not to kill the vet when I took him and still he tried on wobbly legs. . My daughter opened the door one morning to get the mail, and he just flew past her before you could say boo, ran across the street and attacked a lady. She was ok, but our area has a no tolerance bite rule, bite once your dead. . . so we had to put him to sleep. . . that was horrible! Up to now (3 years later) I refuse to get another animal, much to painful when they die. . . . now I have fish. . . so we all understand your trauma and heartache.
  24. Good for you! You resisted the temptation, I look at those things as evil things, monsters lurking wanting to destroy you for ever. . .demons that want to see you weak and fail. . . No, I'm not sleeved yet but I must maintain this "svelt" 330 lbs!:svengo: Can't let temptation make me more fatter. . . heavens to goodness!! What I do, even now as an obese woman (it's hell being overweight) is when the good smells tempt me, I think the following "I have the control, not my gut" "I'm the one who makes the decisions, not my gut" And being the way I am I usually win. . . makes you wonder why I got to 330 in the first place huh????? GOOD QUESTION. . . .probably weakness:cursing: But we can all overcome and win this battle. .we have the tools (I'll have mine in January) bygum lets use 'em!!!
