PPI Meds and side effects?
thinoneday replied to LAN2k's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey gals, could some one tell me something here please, I heard that if you already have your gallbladder out that the surgery will be more complicated than if it was still intact. . . is that true???? I find that kinda hard to believe. -
Questions to ask Surgeon
thinoneday replied to Bonnielass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bonnielass, I did just what Tiff explained and my surgeon was really pleased to know that I was actually asking those questions. . .he was right in there like a dirty shirt! He was honest about it, especially when I asked how successful he has been as a surgeon with the sleeve procedure. . . he said, "it's a fairly new procedure, I have done more bands, and only about 200 sleeves, but I have never had a leak" So that was comforting, he also told me that I would be in hospital overnight for sure, get a leak test done, and if there was one he would do an oversew to correct it. . . he told me I didn't need a preop diet cause my BMI wasn't high enough! Talk about a NSV!!! I told him i would rather do a pre-op diet however, he must of thought I was nuts, but he said, sure that will make my job alot easier! he was so pleasant and courteous. I had a good feeling with him too. . . so I trust him. . even though I know that I'm just another dollar sign walking around! hehehehe -
Waiting! Getting closer to having my VSG surgery!
thinoneday replied to mountain_lover's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You sound good ML! Hope your feeling well. . .are you having some pain? Gas? My surgery is on Dec 29th, I don't know how I feel right now. . . this morning I was like "what the hell am I doing" . . . now I'm like indifferent about it. . . my body tells me "I'm hurting so much you need to do this so you lose weight and I won't hurt so much" my brain tells me "your crazy girl!". . . I don't know. . . . thanks for listening. -

Your date will get there before you know it! Just hang in there. . .unfortunately when you go through insurance that is what happens. . .I opted to go self pay and got my surgery date on December 29th . . . I'm really happy and anxious at the same time. . . it'll be my 18th major surgery, but feels like the 1st one:scared0:. . . .ehhehehe. . . good luck and keep us posted -

Thank you so much for that bit of advice, I never even thought about that! -
Steph, my mom told me about looking old. . . she said "if you lose weight, you will look much older then your sister, do you really want that" I was really upset with mom, and told her it didn't matter as long as the pains went away. . . she didn't say much after that. . . but how dare she. . .

As my date comes closer too, I've told more people. . . actually at work I've been getting quite a few negatives. . . one good one was " I can't believe the director actually approved your surgery, doesn't he know it's elective and you don't really need it". . . that one nearly blew my mind, but of course if you saw that person you'd understand. . . very selfish, fat, and jealous. . . another one of course reminded me of the model from Buenos Aires who died from the butt implant. . . I reminded her that I wasn't getting my ass worked on so I didn't need to worry about that. . . she shut up pretty fast. . . I'm sure that since these two people know about the surgery, it won't take long before the whole company knows. . . but that is ok! I haven't told my mom, sister or brother because they are worse then my co-workers. . . I'll tell my mom when she comes to visit me next year and notices my weight loss. . . or I'll just tell her I'm eating less and exercising, which of course won't be a lie. . . hehehe. . . but yeah, damned if you do, and damned if you don't. . . if your too fat your told not to eat too much, if your losing weight, your told not to lose too much. . . people have soooooooooooooo much advice, but they themselves don't listen to their own yapping. . . .good luck with all y'all do!

Finally Onderland and 2 1/2 month update!!!!
thinoneday replied to shanda7182's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is excellant! Your doing really well. . . see those other days of worrying about not losing were just little setbacks. . . nothing to worry about. . . I'm so happy it's coming together for you! A medium is excellant, don't think I've ever worn a medium in my life, not even as a baby:w00t: hehehe. . . .I have my date, Dec 29th! I'm really excited! -
Five days down on my 14-day preop diet!
thinoneday replied to twobluecats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, i'm in the same boat as you are. . . my surgery is on Dec. 29th. . . I start my pre op diet on the 17th. . . I didn't have to do a preop, but told doctor i would like to do one. . . he told me it would definately make his job alot easier, soooooo. . . like you I'll be doing 2 protein shakes and 1 meal consisting of a palm sized piece of meat and a palm sized portion of veggies. . . interesting. . . well, if you haven't found it bad, then that is good. . . i hope i'll be the same way. . . this will be my 18th major surgery and I'm as nervous and jittery as a june bug! guess surgery isn't something you get used to. . . good luck to you, when is your surgery? -
Yippee! I have a date with the physician! For surgery, nothing else, just in case that came across wrong! :001_tt1: Yup! December 29th! So after I've been reading all of these posts and such and become good friends with some of you, I get my date and forget everything! Just like me. . . sorta like you know what you want from Wal-Mart, but once you walk through the blowy area, poof its all gone and you can't remember anything. . . so I'm going to try this pre op diet thingy, protein shakes, which ones are the good ones? Don't like the vitamin tasting ones, doctor said I didn't need the pre-op diet but I told him, i'd like to do it. . . dumb huh? Which vitamins are good, soluble? Do gummies work well after surgery or no? any help will be great right now. . .

Overweight instead of Obese
thinoneday replied to Tiffykins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How wonderful everyone is doing! I, like Tiffy, will be losing quickly. . . . from what I know of myself from tried and failed diets, I lose weight fast (100 lbs in 8 months) that was fast. . . but of course, once i stopped the phentermine, it came on faster then 7 months but at least i didn't gain more then where i started from. . . good job to all the ladies and gentlemen . . . it is a lot of work, and you all deserve big hugs ! Keep up the good work! -
Well at least you didn't show up naked! Just have a garage sale after and make back your money. . .or give them to an overweight friend or family member. . . I do understand, it's happened to me often. . . it is very frustrating and irratating, but at least I looked presentable and then sold them at a garage sale and got my money back. . . it's not a weird rant, it is life. . .

I did the same Rose, and found my doctor to be very competent, smart, and honest. . . he did say that he hasn't done more then 300 sleeves and that he has done lapbands more, he did answer my questions regarding boughies and oversewings. . . he did talk very intelligently and he is the medical director of surgery. . . his reviews were very good, he has never had any malpractice suits against him and he seems caring and have a genuine interest in the patients. . . but of course money does a lot of the talking too. . . where doesn't it do the talking?

Wow ML, your an inspiration to me. . . I finally got my surgery date for Dec. 29th. . .I really happy. . . the doctor told me my BMI wasn't high enough to be put onto a pre-op diet (41) but I told him I would like to go on it. . . he looked at me as if I had let the cheese slide off the cracker. . . he said ok, it would make his job easier anyhow. . . so I'll do it, I start on the 15th. . . just reading your post makes me think, wow your doing so good! I should be able to do it!!! You'll do well with your surgery, I just know it! . . . good luck and best to you!

thank you so much for sharing your story. . . how sorry I feel for your mother in law. . . some people who have this surgery think this is a miracle cure to their obesity, they want to wake up and "poof" be thin and never have to think about it ever again. . . little do they know that even with this surgery, they have to work at it. . . they have to diet and exercise, the sleeve is drastic yes, but I totally agree with you, there should have been a psychological evaluation and a nutritional evaluation. . . i couldn't even think about the surgery without the following things. . . I HAD to go to a seminar with my husband, attend the psychological eval and the nutritional eval. . .then the doctor questioned me on my wanting the surgery and when he found out that i didn't want the surgery to miraculously become the next Miss America, but rather to improve my health and well being, it was then that he told me I would be a good candiate for the surgery. . . I researched this for over 1 year and then hubbie and I agreed on it. . . I wish your motherinlaw had done the same. . . it would be alot easier on her. . . and not to be mean or make you feel bad, but is she an attention seeker? Do you think all this may be for attention? It's not my place, but maybe a psychiatrist might be in order. . . I'll say a prayer for all of you and wish you all the best, it's hard, but God never gives us more than what we can bear. . . .

Ok, I've a gold card from GNC too, so I'll just go over there and get it. . . thanks!

Overweight instead of Obese
thinoneday replied to Tiffykins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good for you Tiffy! It's a long struggle, but I'm so glad there is help out there for us, that is a great BMI. . . the doctor thought my BMI of 41 was not enough to put me on a pre-op diet. . . . that was my first NSV! :001_tongue: -
Can you get the Optimum whey protein at Sam's or costco?

Thanks Tiffy and Itstime! Tiff loved your NSV story! It was so cute!

Officially cleared!!
thinoneday replied to PinkJewels's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! Me too, Me too!!!! I got all my tests cleared today and have a surgery date of December 29th! I'm really happy, but understandably anxious. . . .I'll be fine I know, but there is always that hesitation regarding surgeries! Doctor told me I didn't have to do the pre-op diet, but i told him if it will make his job easier, I would like to do it! So I start that on Dec. 15th. . . 2-3 protein shakes and 1 very small meal consisting of a palm sized protein and a palm sized vegatable. . . water in between meals and when I'm hungry. . . god I'm going to be grouchy! That's ok though, cause this too shall pass. . . . thanks guys! -
