Does the weight loss increase your sex drive?

For those of you losing your sex drive as you lose weight, it may be caused by your hormones. Remember, when you are very heavy, fat cells produce testosterone - male hormone. That's why being overweight tends to cause things like facial hair, PCOS, irregular periods, etc. Testosterone, as we all know, also increases sex drive. So naturally as the fat goes away, so does the excess testosterone. Rest assured that it all balances out when your weight stabalizes.

    Tight band keepers.

Wow. This thread is just full of middle school drama.... I, being a "newbie" who responded to Steph by saying I think I will need to be "tight", really do not need others "showing me the light" of the negative consequences. If it works for me, great, if not, I will expereince MY OWN negative consequences and change as needed. Would you judge a "loose bander"? Someone who wants to lose weight very slowly, but in doing so is able to eat larger portions or bread or whatever? Come on now. Also, as I am sure Steph has been told by her doctors, IBS is in NO WAY related to weight loss surgery, nor her food choices. If it was THAT SIMPLE, then the millions of people with IBS could be cured by avoiding nachos, Steph's food of choice, right??? That's the logic being touted on here... that eating tiny portions of something YOU consider "wrong" caused her IBS. I have Crohn's disease, an uglier, fiercer, IBS cousin. There is not a damn thing I have discovered in the past 13 years that I eat that makes it better or worse. One day, fried stuff sets a flare up, the next time, its fruit and veggies. There is no rhyme or reason for some sufferers. If you aren't a tight bander, don't even bother reading this post if you are only going to lecture. We are all adults here. We are all learning and researching and sharing. We come here for support, not condescending attitudes that think their way is the "right" way.
  10. And thanks for the picture comment! :) I wish I was 20 something :( My whole life I have always looked younger, in fact my first day of teaching, I was mistaken for a student... but ever since I've had my son, I feel like I look so much older..... so I appreicate the compliment!

November 09 Knockouts! Check in here POST surgery! :)

Hi all! Hope Christmas was everything each of you hoped for  Lost and gained the same pound in the past 4 weeks of mushies. Calorie intake under 1000, plus the Y 4-5 days a week, but still no loss, so it DOES happen even when we do the right thing  Got my first fill this morning. 4cc's in a Realize Band. I *think* Realize is 11 cc total.... Had a pre-injection of lydocain to numb the area, didn't feel anything with the fill. However, I did feel a little nauseus afterwards. I'm on full liquids now for 48 hours. Just had some creamy chicken Soup for lunch.

    Tight band keepers.

I am so happy to be reading this post.... I was banded Nov 18. I lost about 10 pounds on pre op and only about 5 post op. I haven't lost anything in 3 weeks. I go tomorrow for my first fill. I KNOW I will need to be a tight bander. I HAVE to have the power taken away from me, because I can not do it on my own. I do go to the Y 4-5 times a week and don't mind exercising, but I don't love it either. I get soooo bored on the treadmill and bike... UG. Anyway, as I said, I know I will need to be a tight bander because if I can eat it, I will. That's been my life and what got me to 290 pounds to begin with.

  19. Just in case anyone was using for their protein (like I was!) Englewood Cliffs, NJ, December 3, 2009 - Unilever United States, Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is conducting a nationwide voluntary recall of all Slim-Fast® ready-to-drink (RTD) products in cans, due to the possibility of contamination with Bacillus cereus, a micro-organism, which may cause diarrhea and possibly nausea and/or vomiting. The probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote. The products were sold in stores nationwide. The products are packaged in paperboard cartons and contain four, six or 12 steel cans that are 11 FL OZ (325 mL) each. Individual cans are also sold in certain retail outlets. The recall involves all Slim-Fast® RTD products in cans, regardless of flavor, Best-By date, lot code or UPC number. A listing of all RTD recalled products is attached to this press release. No other Slim-Fast® products are affected by this recall. No Slim-Fast® powdered shakes, meal bars, or snack bars are affected by this recall. The recall was initiated after the company conducted quality testing on Slim-Fast® RTD products in cans. Out of an abundance of caution, the company is recalling all RTD products in cans that are currently in distribution centers, on-shelf or in back rooms in retail outlets or in consumers’ homes. The company is in the process of identifying and correcting the production issue, and will resume production and shipment of the product when the issue has been addressed and corrected. Consumers who have purchased Slim-Fast® RTD products in cans are urged to discard them immediately and contact the company at 1-800-896-9479 for a full refund. The Consumer Services Center is open Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM ET. A recorded message is available 24/7.

    Can't lose the weight! Help!

Thanks for the info. I will try that. I've also got an email in to the nutritionist at the surgeon's office to see what her suggestions would be.

    Can't lose the weight! Help!

While I appreciate some of the blunt responses, as many people need to be honest with themselves, there are many of us strugglers who are doing EXACTLY what they should be and still not losing. I have not lost an ounce in over a week. I drink my Protein shakes, eat my small meals, avoid empty calories and carbs, log my intake TO A T, and maintain less than 1000 calories a day. I exercise 5 days a week (only cardio right now, as I'm not cleared to do weights yet) and I am exactly where I was at my one week followup. Granted, I have lost 14 pounds in a month, since I began my pre op diet, but 9 of that was the week before surgery, the other 5 in the week following, and not an ounce since. It's a little disheartening to hear people say "It's hard to believe you are doing everything right and not losing" but I AM. It does happen unfortunately. I have faith that it will eventually start coming off, but for those of us that are struggling, it's more upsetting to know we made this huge life changing decision and others that have been there think we aren't trying hard enough.

7days out n this port still hurts

IM two weeks out tomorrow and port pain stinks  Mine is DEAD CENTER, about 6 inches above my belly button, right above my natural waist, so everytime I sit or bend, I feel it. I really think it is not in a good place and may need to be moved.

November 09 Knockouts! Check in here POST surgery! :)

Soexcited - I'm totally with you! I only had to do one week of pre op and lost 9 pounds. Since surgery (2 weeks tomorrow) I have only lost 6. Well 6 one day. 4 the next. I have been going up and down 1-2 pounds for past week. I realize I have added mushies, but I am still eating under 900 calories a day and exercising.... so I'm not sure why I'm not losing. This is my typical day: 8 AM: Protein shake (160 cal, 15 gr protein) 11AM: 1/4 cup canned chicken w sprinkle shredded cheese or 1/4 cup chili (120 cal, 10-15 gr protein) 3PM: Protein Shake (160 cal, 15 gr protein) 6PM: 1/4 chili or 1/4 cup canned salmon (80-120 cal, 8-10 gr protein) 9PM: protein shake (160 cal, 15 gr protein) That's 710 calories and 60-70 gr of protein. I may have a 1/2 cup of oatmeal or yogurt on mornings when the shake doesnt "do it" for me, so maybe an additional 50 calories.... I think I'm going to email the nurtritionist and see what's going on. Maybe I need to UP my calories....
