Dr. Kuri Put A 4Cc Band In Me - Is That Good
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unless you have researched 3 years of threads involving Mexican doctors...you wouldn't know what I mean and what I have seen. No need to discuss this anymore. Its a dead issue. No worries.... Blessings, MD -
Dr. Kuri Put A 4Cc Band In Me - Is That Good
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Again...this is based on historical fact in my research over 3 years. When something doesn't fit (e.g. odd posting, discrediting other doctors, and email me privately regarding the same doctor)...it doesn't fit. It could some time...yes...but not to the degree that I've seen it. We can agree to disagree....I'm fine with that. But again...I hear what you are saying. -

Haha....well yes....being in marketing...I do have a sensativity to how marketing is done. Having a Masters in it probably helps (or hurts...who knows ). In researching the mexican doctors the past 3 years on this forum....I would just see a consistant and very odd pattern of forum posting (not consistant with a normal flow of conversation or very quick to discredit another Mexican doctor while promoting Dr. Ortiz at the same time) I have a problem with that. Hey...nothing wrong with being passionate about your doctor. I was very impressed with my experience with Dr. Kuri and would recommend him to anyone......but when you have this odd type of posting and saying all these wonderful things and then saying...if you have any questions......please email me privately ect.... When you have a consistant cocktail mix of promoting one doctor, discrediting others, odd forum posting out of nowhere and then saying message me privately.....that bothers me. Again...because I've seen this type of behavior over 3 years here.....and my desire to that people should be void of human steering (and things should be kept pure in a life altering decision like this).....I jump out of my skin when see it on my thread....haha !!! But yes...I see where you are coming from Jean ! Warmest regards, MD -

I love when people insinuate that someone like Dr. Kuri is not reputable or that the 4cc band is discontinued. Makes me wonder if they have a motive to promote a certain doctor. -
Restriction Is A Lot Less After 4.5 Days Post Op - Is This Normal ?
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just have this feeling in the back of my throat area that is a little sore. Not too bad though. So with this...on top of being able to drink a lot more liquids...just wanting to know if I I should be concerned. I'm drinking now...almost like I have no band in me. I feel a very small restriction now....if any.... Thoughts? -

Dr. Kuri Put A 4Cc Band In Me - Is That Good
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not saying I'm right by any stretch...but did a lot of research on the Mexican Doctors (e.g. called former patients, talked to staffs, heard peoples comments here ect...). However, I didn't research the bands that they place as I didn't think I needed to. But when I got the 4cc band....I took a step back and was kind of surprised as I thought I would get the 10cc band. Needless to say...this is going to be one interesting ride. God is good, MD -

Dr. Kuri Put A 4Cc Band In Me - Is That Good
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes...but apparently he does 1 or 2 others that others typically don't do. He does boast a very low slip rate .02 versus the average 2-3% national slip rate. He is either lying or is he is telling the truth...I tend to side that is telling the truth. But who knows really in the end... Success to you Elcee, MD -

Harder Than I Thought
marketingdude replied to MumtoJackson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had no real pain at all outside the normal pain where they cut me open. No gas or shoulder pain either. Perhaps because I had a very experienced surgeon (with over 5000 surgeries) that could explain my lack of pain and no gas/shoulder pain. Not sure...just guessing...Or ...it could be that the many prayers that were prayed for me before surgery were answered Was talking to my brother's surgeon and he said that some feel more pain then others (especially around the area where they put the band) because some surgeons are not efficient when placing the band around the patients stomach. In his explanation, when they place the band around the stomach area, the instruments can touch or nick the area around the top part of the stomach...which is the reason some have more pain then others. Take it for what it is worth...but this is what he said. The biggest frustration for me personally was the nausea from anesthesia and when they pulled the catheter out of me. I squealed like a little dog -

Thought this was interesting commentary about the 4cc band. The article came out yesterday. Not saying this is gospel by any means....but interesting information nonetheless. I would share the link...but the forum does not allow me to share a link for some reason. If you want the link....just pm me privately. Main Snippets of the Article regarding the 4cc Band -

Dr. Kuri Put A 4Cc Band In Me - Is That Good
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm definitely not an expert...but if I had to say if my band is kind of tight right now (perhaps versus how other larger ones would have been if I had a larger one put in me)....I would say have to say that would be true. However, just speculation because I didn't have a large band put in me. The reason I say this is because I was looking at the x-rays from the barium swallow and not much barium got through over a 45 second span of the x-ray snapshots compared to what was still in my esophagus (yes...they gave me the xrays to take home with me). After asking the technician, he said it is less barium then normal that he has seen in the past the band...but the Doctor will give you the right opinion. Well, when I asked the Dr. about this he said...."Yes...its lesser than normal...but you will be fine. We have seen that level before". For better or worse....that is what the doctors said and this is my personal assessment that these 4cc bands can feel a "little tight". Hopefully, this could be a good thing in terms of band success/restriction ...even when considering the negative potential (e.g. slip) is negated by special technique Dr. Kuri uses. Just sharing all of this for what it is worth to you all.... Success, MD -

Dr. Kuri Put A 4Cc Band In Me - Is That Good
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No ..your fine actually. One of the major reasons they have been discontinued (from my research) is their tendency to slip at higher rate than the bigger bands. I have amazing peace of the size of my band because Dr. Kuri (who is known for very slow slip rate) uses a technique of putting extra sutures ...suturing the band to the actual stomach. Apparently, very few doctors know or practice putting these extra sutures in. P.S. It was funny...my wife was taking a pictures during surgery...but was told to not take video. Well...she did sneak a video and was surprised he was playing classical music while he was operating on me. He must got this thing down to a science if he is playing classic music during surgeries. She said she was very surprised at what a family atmosphere the surgical team had in the operating room.....first greeting each other with a kiss. Definitely...a different flavor in terms of getting surgery in the US versus Mexico either way. -
Dr. Kuri Put A 4Cc Band In Me - Is That Good

It was interesting to know that the girl who got banded the same day as me, also had a 4cc band in her. In fact, the 3 that got banded (the day after me) also had the 4cc band in them. I know this because we all rode in the van together on the way back to the San Diego Airport. So ....it seems Dr. Kuri primarily uses the 4cc band. P.S. So far...so good...I lost 6 pounds so far in 3 days since being banded -
Bandsters: I'm getting banded by Dr. Kuri in Mexico on 10/17/12. Everything is set. My wife and father are coming with me as my mother is staying home to care for my brother who had the Skin surgery recently after losing 270 lbs with the lap band. So far I have the following: 1) Passport 2) Heating Pad 3) Nausene for nausia 4) Gas X 5) Polysporin Ointment for incision area 6) Cashier Check 7) Flight Itinerary and confirmation #'s 8) Hotel confirmation #'s 9) Cash for paying for medications, hotel and misc. 10) Lose clothing for flight back home and when leaving the hospital 11) Light robe and sandles to walk around the hospital rather than with that skimpy gown they give you after surgery 12) Papaya enzymes from GNC to help with any digestion issues if I have a stuck episode afterwords. This is definately after the liquid phase obviously. Please pray for me as this is a life altering decision for me as well as it has been for all of you out there. I pray that I'm making a wise decision and this band won't somehow bite me down the road of some unintended consequence that was unforeseen. I know you all know what I'm talking about. I just pray not only for a healthy surgery but that I will use wisdom in working with the band properly. I don't want to misuse or abuse this thing....its an investment in my health, my family, ministry, and financially with future medical and food costs savings down the road. P.S. Any advice pre or post trip would be appreciated. Also, any advice in making the transition with the band much easier would also be greatly appreciated. At the end of the day....I just need your prayers, encouragement and any wisdom you have regarding your journey and success. Respectfully submitted, MD

Interesting about the slip rate. I will say Dr. Kuri knows how to put extra sutres to make sure they don't slip. Not trying to defend but I do that he has a special technique to prevent slips and where the band absorbs into the stomach.
