Interesting story...Wow...this just confirms about the power of the ultmighty band. Seems like we are seeing a trend about how we should truely LET THE BAND BE THE BOSS.... if you want to eat more (because of head hunger or want more taste...and you know you have eaten your fair share already).....force yourself to eat some Soup which could satisfy that "taste need"....instead of forcing more food down our throats. -

Now that is interesting....I would assume and think....that a tool such as this....you are very aware of eating too much food...because of past stuck episodes. I've heard its kind of painful if you eat too much....as their is pain in your chest area. I've heard its not fun at all either. Regardless....its interesting you say...your basically even not aware of your band when you eat. For many...the fear of getting stuck or throwing up to many times. SIDE NOTE: many fear of throwing up multiple times because it increase the slippage rate the more you throw up. Thoughts? -

Simply Thee Best Tip For Lapband Success (From A Guy Who Lost 265Lbs)

Has anbody else come to this conclusion on being successful with the Band? Obviously, I'm trained in research, observing attitudes and seeing the root cause of something. However, this is just my observation with my brother and I do know other people have alot of other experiences and thoughts. But I'm curious if perhaps this is a trend here....in terms of sharpening your "inner ear" to be sensative what the band is tell you. Perhaps this is a major key in terms of lapband success (obviously outside of a good doctor and aftercare) Thoughts? -

When You First Lose Weight, Does Your Body Think You Are Going In Starvation Mode ???
marketingdude posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thought this was a relevant question since your body is NOT GETTING THE FOOD AND CALORIES you once had. If this is true...COMMON SENSE would tell you that your body is noticing a big change and starting to store calories. But then the inevitable happens...and you bust through and you lose the weight. Now you and I know that we are not starving because we feel full and good (for most people anyway) but in reality...doesn't your body think its starving in comparison to how you used to eat before? Thoughts/Opinions? -

What Can You Expect To Experience The First 3 Days After Surgery ?
marketingdude posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bandsters: Any thoughts on what we can expect from day 1 to 3 after surgery? I'm decided to go with Dr. Kuri so if anyone has surgery with him I encourage you to post as well. 1) What is the typical or average pain level the day of the surgery and a couple days afterwords? I know everyone is different but I'm sure there is a typical norm associated with this surgery. 2) Anything you wish that you would have realized during the first week after surgery? Anything done differently? -
What Simple Thing (Did You Do Eating Wise) To Make Living With The Band Normal ???
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You see this is at the heart of the matter. I'm wondering how long it becomes VERY NORMAL (to where it really hits your head) that you won't even try eating too much. Kind of like that hot stove....it only takes a couple of times....AND YOU KNOW not to even go down that path. I know a stove is much more painful then the pain of eating too much with the band. But I'm wondering does the pain of eating too much EVENTUALLY register with you head that you really don't want to go down that path. And if/when it does.....NOW LIVING WITH the band is now becoming normal where you won't even have to think "am I overeating". It appears...once we get to that point...living with the band will become much more normal. Thoughts/Opinions on this? -
What Simple Thing (Did You Do Eating Wise) To Make Living With The Band Normal ???
marketingdude posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bandsters: We all know that getting the lapband comes with alot of adjustments with your eating and overall life in general. One of the keys (it appears at least) is to getting through the learning/unconfortable curve phrase of adjusting to life with the band inside you. As many of you know, my brother went from 429lbs to his current wait of 165lbs. Since my brother thinks these type of discussion is "too deep" (and basically thinks my quesitons are stupid), I have resorted to asking all of you. The following are my 3 Questions: 1) How long after surgery did you finally settle down and eating with the band became normal? Specifically, no worries of throwing up or getting stuck or worried that you may eat to much ect... ? Yes..I know you can never be 100% worry free in terms of being stuck...but how long did it take for you to settle down eating with the band and where it became second nature? 2) Is there anything you did to improve or quicken your adjustment of living with the band? Obviously, those of us who haven't gotten the band yet, want to hopefully quicken our learning/adjustment curve. Any advice out there? 3) Looking back at your decision with getting the lapband, was there anything that you wish you would have known (or done differently) to quicken your rate of adjustment? So In Summary 1) How Long ? 2) Anything to Quicken Your Adjustment Period for normalcy? 3) Anything you wish you would have done differently? Many thanks in advance for your advice as many would benefit greatly from it. -

What Simple Thing (Did You Do Eating Wise) To Make Living With The Band Normal ???
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Or even helps you to think about eating out of fear of getting stuck and creating potential complications with the band. Pre band obviously....this is probably ONE OF THE BIGGEST things for me ....that would cause me to think about what I'm putting in my mouth. Obviously...I don't have the band...but avoiding potential complications if a big part of my thinking (pre-band of course with no experience yet) So the following seems to be the major concerns which cause you to think what you are putting in your mouth 1) Desire to eat healthy foods and live a more healthy life with the band 2) Fear of being stuck and having complications (over time via many stuck episodes) 3) Feeling of satisfaction causes you to stop and think about not putting more food in your mouth. P.S. I'm sorry I'm so academic with this...but this is how I think when trying to process the mental side of living with the band. -
What Can You Expect To Experience The First 3 Days After Surgery ?
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No....although my wife and I want to move back to Arizona we are here in the midwest. I LOVE ARIZONA ....BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO LIVE. I lived in Tempe [Chandler, Old Town Scottsdale (Indian School/Millber) and Phoenix (by Union Hills and 51]. Your going to laugh but we were at major Fish/Dolphin/Whale Show here in the Midwest and they had a huge Penguin exhibit...... Specifically, there was a mural (from left to right) showing pictures of coldest penguins in the world looked like down to the warmest weather climate penguins and what they looked like. Well...the funny thing was.....you can see an obvious correlation....THE COLDER THE CLIMATE....THE BIGGER THE PENGUIN WAS.......THE WARMER THE CLIMATE......THE SMALLER THE PENGUIN WAS. .... LESSON LEARNED? Move to a warmer state and you will have a better chance of losing weight. Not that you will....but just a better chance . All that I know is....I've gained 85lbs by moving back to the Midwest here.....could my theory be true regarding climate and its effect of weight? HMMM ? haha... Blessings -
What Simple Thing (Did You Do Eating Wise) To Make Living With The Band Normal ???
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The vibe I'm getting so far......is eating with the band will NEVER appear normal where you won't be thinking about what you are putting in your mouth. I mean....when I eat now (not having the surgery yet) I don't even think about what I'm putting in my mouth....I JUST EAT....it appears normal where I don't even think about it. However...what I'm sensing is you WILL ALWAYS have to think what you are putting in your mouth out of the potential risk of getting stuck...and if your food is going to go through. Any other thoughts out there? -

By the way.....SINCERELY...congrats on your weightloss. Just noticed you lost over 235lbs. My brother lost around 265lbs. This surgery literally has altered his entire life for the better. I'm so happy for him...even though he thinks my questions are dumb. I'm deep thinker and researcher. Can't help it...I graduated with my Masters Degree from a Research 1 University at ASU. -

I remember when he first came home he did. Not sure how the subsequant days were after. I specifically remembered him not taking any liquid Vicodin out of fear he wouldn't feel the pain. He wanted to feel the pain so he could be proactive in identifying if something was going wrong internally. -
What Can You Expect To Experience The First 3 Days After Surgery ?
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for sharing mandagay....sounds like the norm I'm hearing is the pain goes away after 4-5 days on average with the symptoms of pain completely gone after a week. I know EVERYONE is different but this is what I'm observing and noticing anyway. I can't wait to get this done....I've LITERALLY gained gained 85lbs in 7 years. I"m 38 now and have always been in shape. I was 210lbs (and cute) now I feel like I'm a frumpy peace of dough (sorry about the visual...haha). I'm actually kind of really upset that I'm almost 300lbs now. I love working out (and still do) ...I've just went through alot of personal things during the last 7 years and I think the stress has caused me to gain this weight. Since my brothers success (and hearing the many success stories on this forum) it's worth it ...in my opinion....but as much knowledge as I have regarding this surgery......I'm still a little uneasy about this. The worst thing in the world I want is to go half way across the world (to Mexico) then fly back to the Midwest here and something were to happen. I'm a positive person and believe in taking risks....but we are not dealing with milk and twinkies with a surgery like this. This surgery changes peoples lives forever !!! The more knowledge or trends we can learn from others (who already have had this surgery) can only help all of us make better and well informed decisions. At minimum....we can now plan and prepare for situations..... like right after getting banded. -

To the person who has shady and ulterior motives....EVERYONE has shady and ulterior motives. Nothing is pure in the eyes of people like this. Your response SERIOUSLY makes me GAG Yve! Its called 2 different GENUINE QUESTIONS GOOFY....UNBELIEVABLE...... To the rest of you....I sincerely apologize for the troll (who hovers over their computer and has TONS of time on their hands) and who has crapped on this thread twice now...... In the meantime, we would all love to hear your responses from those who have genuinely learned something from their experience and can help those who haven't made this step yet. I know I would personally. I'm a very proactive...yet a little nervous about getting this surgery and I desire to learn techniques (or just learn in general) how I can quickly adjust to living life with the band efficiently. I'm sure the majority would love to know this as I really have never heard anyone talk about this topic before. Blessings to all (even to my new crapper friend ) ! I'm sorry...but it needed to be said...otherwise she will be crapping on other peoples threads who have genuine questions. I mean.....HOW REALLY can someone have ulterior motives for posting questions like this....I MEAN REALLY ? -

What Simple Thing (Did You Do Eating Wise) To Make Living With The Band Normal ???
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for sharing your information. That is interesting that it is still not normal (in terms of eating) after a year. I look at my brother and it seems he doesn't even think when eating now. Although in his defense, he has been living with the band for 6 years now. Maybe it becomes more normal a couple years down the road possibly (???) It is my desire to live life with the band (when I get it sometime this year) to where its second nature when you eat. I don't have to think or worry every time I eat. However, it seems it could never be normal and maybe this is the way its suppose to be.....you are always thinking about what (and how much) you eat. This is probably one of the biggest reasons people are successful with the band. Blessings Amanda and Many Thanks For Responding ! -
