Post Surgery: Do You Have Problems With Carb Addiction ?

What...are you not suppose to drink caffeine with the band? My thinking...coffee was ok....and you will still technically get the same amount of caffeine from coffee as before? Any other thoughts out there? -

Very powerful insights into ones mindset you need to have with your new tool. Nice post Deb....helps out alot to see what you have to think about "regularly" with the band inside you. -

Thanks again for you post. Actually....I've been away from the forum for 1.5 years. and MsJeanneta "Perfecta" was nice enough to say I was "strange" for waiting this long. Actually....it wasn't until around the last 6 months (I've found my password and done alot more research on my own outside asking personal questions to my brother). P.S. I'm actually gettting surgery within 2 months with Dr. Kuri... -
Would I Have A Problem Going On A Relaxing Vacation After Surgery?
marketingdude posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are going to be flying down to San Diego and hopping the boarder to go to TJ to get banded by Doctor Kuri (excellent doctor by the way). After 2-3 days there, the plan is to rent a car to go to Hollywood and then San Francisco....and leisurely just enjoy the coastline. I know most would say to not do this (and do the trip before the surgery) but I'm wondering....(barring it would be a VERY relaxing trip) to do this. One of the reasons I'm exploring to do this is because...if there was complications (3 days after surgery) I'm still in California and we could easily go back to Tijuana.......rather flying from Chicago back to San Diego again. I'm sure everything will be fine....but I'm always looking to prepare wisely and prepare for the "whatifs" in life. Blessings all...let me know your thoughts? -
Would I Have A Problem Going On A Relaxing Vacation After Surgery?

I'm thinking along these lines....a couple of days in Tijuana - 2 full nights stay AFTER surgery (leave on the 3rd day) then 2-3 days in San Diego...then fly home. -

Many thanks for your detailed responses Diane (I love it) Did have a one more question for you as it seems its a hurdle I will need to overcome and prepare for. But what do you mean specifically...in terms of the emotional side of eating? I know eating is emotional...but it appears you had some major emotional withdrawls...from not being able to eat the foods you used to? Am I assuming this correctly? Feel free to elaborate...about the emotional "battle" that one may have to face after they get this surgery. Hope you understand my desire to know this....as I want to gleam from people who have ALOT OF EXPERIENCE with this TOOL in the body...... I love learning from well seasoned vets to ancipate as much as I can so I can adjust my mindset as much as possible pre-surgery. Hope you understand....this surgery is getting closer and I'm getting a little nervous. Blessings, Chris -

Actually...never made the step yet. I'm making the step early July. I'm one of these guys....that is a researcher...and love to be prepared for everything...especially a surgery like this. So what was surprising as it appears something was. Many thanks for answering in advance ! Blessings -

What did you NOT understand....or what surprised you? I'm curious....as I always try to be proactive to try to ancipate things before they happen. If things surprised you....I'm curious as to what they were.....any information would be greatly appreciated for those who haven't made this step yet. Blessings to you, Chris -

What ended up being the problem...I'm curious as I want to ancipate problems....or better yet...ancipate issues...that end up NOT being issues at all. At least I can recognize potentially "false signs" of potential problems as well. Blessings ! -
Would I Have A Problem Going On A Relaxing Vacation After Surgery?
marketingdude replied to marketingdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lady is a 4 hour drive south of me here in Illinois. Already set it up. There is an "off chance" that my brother's surgeon will do him a favor by doing my adjustments also. He is about 2 hours away versus the 4. However, he is VERY CONSERVATIVE with his adjustments (e.g. 1/4-1/2 cc per adjustments) and that could get expensive. Either way though...I will be covered back home here. Good question !! -

By the way...I'm just learning myself. I pray you didn't misconstrue my heart when I said my comment above. I look at this as we are all going on this journey together...even though I never got the surgery yet . I'm really learning alot from all you guys and consider myseff fortunate to meet all of you. This would be interesting to know...if others see the same pattern as you do. Also...if there is a way to "break" this cycle of every 10lbs there is a 2-3 month plateau. -

Soup Before Dinner?
marketingdude replied to JennyBee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No ....definately in it for the LONG term. Never was a short term guy in terms of the things I get involved with or in. Just came with that observation based on people's reported weight loss. Obviously, the more you weight before surgery...the more people will "tend" to lose. Jenny seems like a little thing to begin with compared to the average bandster...so this makes complete sense too. I'm so happy for everyone losing all this weight....it encourages me to talk and observe this with all of you. Congrats again ! -

marketingdude replied to Lianne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get a flouroscopy done AND MAKE SURE he shows you the results. Otherwise...get the Flouroscopy done by another doctor. You want to make sure you know EXACTLY what position the band is in.....and making sure he shows you is HUGE.... If something is wrong....he is less likely to want to reveal and show in the information...because then you would be informed in terms of a lawsuit. I"m not saying this what is going on....or how he would respond. But you don't really know.....so I always want my basis covered no matter what. P.S. Bottom line...you need to know whats going on in with the band....and you will only know truely with a Flouroscopy. -

Just curious JennyBee (and not to discourage you in anyway...as I'm just learning and observing alot). It seems you have been banded 3 months now....and you are down only 19lbs. I've noticed a trend that people conservatively average 10lbs a month in the first few months. Noticed you were under 200lbs before surgery...so you are more tiny then most (and maybe this is it)....but I'm wondering how the whole diet thing is playing into your current trend of losing roughly 6lbs per month. Thoughts/Opinions? Blessings Jenny...I'm encouraged by your openness and your contributions! -

Simply Thee Best Tip For Lapband Success (From A Guy Who Lost 265Lbs)
marketingdude posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Bandsters: Was talking to my brother the other day and have been fascinated by his weight reduction from 429lbs to his current weight of 165lbs. Over the years...I've been asking him questions when I sense he is in a mood to answer them (he doesn't like my many questions as he never went to school and values good research like I do) In a nutshell, I've been amazed as how "respectful" he is of his band. More specifically, I've observed an attitude (that he has) that he views his band as "THE BOSS"....and yields constantly to what his band his telling him. To point...where he SERIOUSLY doesn't play around when his band is giving him a warning sign. Its refreshing to see actually. Yes...I know its also about aftercare, the surgeon, the foods you eat ect.... However...if you get all the areas correct...but fail to yield and be respectful of this new tool.....everything else is a loss. He has a good surgeon, good aftercare but noticed he doesn't excercize that much and doesn't eat the right foods and notice he likes his beer alot now. But regardless, amongst all this observation.....I'm amazed on how he listens to his band and lets the band tell him what to do (not the other way around) This advice may seem simple (and nothing new) but I can honestly say this tip of "Letting the Band Be Your Boss" is simply the #1 Reason For His Success. Because of his success, my research and many posters here, I've now decided to take the step and get banded in July. Blessings to all, MD
