    On the mend

Once they started to put the lap band in, they noticed a hole in my diaphragm so big my doctor could get his fist through it. I am healing from that surgery....plus two lap bands...the first one failed. I went in Dec 17th, but had to have a new lap band put in Dec 23rd. Not fun, but my life was in danger and you will do anything they say to live. They had to drain the contents of the pouch, out my nose so to knock me out, they put a fist to my throat...I guess anaesthesia could have allowed me to inhale the contents into my lungs. It is not something anyone would want. So, my advice is NEVER TO CHEAT....do exactly as they say, because a blockage of the lap band can cause you to die very fast. I did not cheat to experience this. But I am the better for it, and know that this is nothing to fool around with. May everyone find freedom in obedience in 2010. Love to everyone :tt2:

  3. how are you doing now? I guess your surgery is done and you are on a liquid pahse still, or mush phase. I had mine (re-done) on Dec 23rd, after a failed one on Dec 17th. I had to have major diaphragm surgery before they could do the first one, causing the band to seal and nothing would go down. I then needed emergency surgery to take it out and put in a new one. But today I am six days into recovery and feeling fairly good.

I don't need a drop of pain medication, nor nausea meds, so I consider I am on the mend. I becamse so dehydrated from the first one, not knowing nothing was going down...threw up three times and was really really sick.

In my case, a doctor I did not choose did the first surgery and my own doctor "assisted." It was not done properly and I could have died. I could hardly breathe, either. the hospital let me go home before I could rink or breathe. lots of mistakes, but the good news is that I got my own doctor after all and he did it right.

  4. I am drinking now just normally and fine and the ordeal having to have it vacuumed out my nose...they made me inhale and swallow arfrin and some jel and swallow that so they could get in the nose tube....after they "put me out" by literally pressing on my throat..I was telling myself so this is how it feels to have someone choke you to death. ...no anaesthesia before the fist went to the top of my throat, and then they leaned down on it...I went out cold, or I could have inhaled it.

ANYWAY, I am all better now and feel ready to heal and comply withe verything they tell me to do. I have now already had the benefit of an education what happens if you eat the wrong thing and you block the lap band....you throw up, it slips and you are back for a new one. Not the kind of thing to mess around with.

  5. I had been released from Fair Oaks Hospital without being able to breathe or drink fluids, which is a litigious matter, but I am hardly there; this time I got my own doctor and was at a very good Reston Hospital. What a difference.

So I got dehydrated at home after the first release, trying to get down even 4 oz of any fluid whatsoever over four days....I threw everything up.... the lap band put in was too tight, and in the wrong place....due to the larger surgery they had just done. One doctor called all the shots so my own doctor, four days later, had to put in a new one and he really fixed me up....this time it felt right, I could drink and breathe, etc.

    December Bandsters 2009

TODAY IS MY DAY....everything we do takes courage, and faith. getting into our cars and out on the road takes courage and faith, and so does eating food, since we do not know if it will poison us. This is not differenet...I am just full of courage today and ready to step into that new realm of existence. I have surgery in about seven hours, and I just realized that not only are we all starting a new life by the end of the year, but we are starting a new decade!!! May we all have successful surgeries and may The Lord guide the hands of our surgeons. May we be rgateful for our blessings, and may our families be calmed from their fears. May we become lights to those around us and surely goodness and mercy will follow us. Psalm 23 Love to everyone...you'll be seeing LESS of me! heh heh Sara

    Amazing Grace

Well, here I am two days away from getting the band...I got all my Rx's and got all my ducks in a row. I have lost 15 lb on the pre-op liquid phase and today is the eleventh day....I have had no problem at all with the liquid part. I just ordered some Isopure powder off Amazon [cookies and cream flavor, no less!!!] and I mix it with water and some cremora...either coconut cream or irish cream...love it. The carbs stay under 30 per day, and almost all of those come from the cremora. I add 64 oz. of water, and though it is thin consistency, it is sorta likemilk. I work on it at the gym, and coming home, and make sure I get in the 64 oz of water. I got some Hood milk but have not used it yet...I even dropped using the cremora yesterday, as I really want my liver to be reduced to make this easier. I am probably getting way under 30 carbs a day. Am getting excited... usually don't pack until the night before a long trip...now I am cleaning house and doing all of those little projects around the house to stay on my feet and not relax...when I get back from the hospital, I am sure I will appreciate coming to a clean place.

    Amazing Grace

We were taught to always say Grace before we ate..something I would have done well to observe. I have found that if I truly give a problem to G-d, that He solves it for me...including the food. I am not denying HIs ability by getting a band, I am doing my part in the rpocess: cutting off theat which offends....I have not been willing to give this problem to Him and allow Him to dictate when and what I would eat... That is the curse. I am hoping to employ a greater tool now to assist my will: the band will slow me down, and will remind me that I have a problem that needs attention. Am I lying to myself? I surely hope this is one of the benefits of the band...It is difficult with the band to forget that I have taken action to restrict my eating. I am about to go to my first consultation meeting in 48 hours...I was gung-ho about the lap band after the seminar, but then I went on you tube and saw a bunch of videos about how the lap band did not work for people...and they went with bariatric, etc. I did not watch the videos but only saw there were alot of them there. I am a little worried about the fact that most of what I have binged on and liked over the 20 years I have been this heavy, are soft foods, like ice cream and dairy products and cheese and such. I am watching what I eat and find that I do not eat very many things I have to chew...isn't this an odd realization??? (Being facetious.) I started thinking maybe I need to ask the doctor about sleeve gastrectomy, since I am going to be 64 in Dec and once I am 65 Medicare (which I will be forced onto) absolutely never covers any type of bariatric surgery other than the lap band. Any ideas about this? Abd please tell me someone something of the types of food you eat now with the band...are they all to be chewable foods, pretty much? That's OK I just would like to know.
  12. I have spent a couple of hours now to try to update my profile and figure out the avatars, etc. Got rid of that dancing smiley avatar, thanks! 13. I am tryiing to figure out how to get a ticker back upfor myself....had it an hour ago.....may God give you a smoothe and wonderful surgery...get back to me

    I love harleys too

  14. Thanks for the inspiration...I am getting banded Dec 17th, and am looking forward to the re-education. Right, it is not the easy road, but doing nothing is a far more difficult road. I always could lose weight and keep it off when I was younger. I also am a fit fat person...no high blood pressure, no high cholsterol, nor diabetes, etc. I don't even have a slow thryroid! But I weighed 333 lbs just a week ago. Am on the pre-op and am down 13 lbs already. Bye bye to those pounds, I never have to see them again. What a gift from G-d. I give Him back the thanks and gratitude...I feel like the leper who was healed and is coming back to thank Him and I haven't even been banded yet...but He saw fit to help me in my distress. I have a charismatic dynamic husband who deserves his wife by his side at his business gatherings. He is so happy and loving and shocked that I have the courage to do this...but it is not courage, it is honesty. I have had to admit that I lost my way... I describe it as I was swimming at the beach, and while I was not paying attention, I drifted out so far that people could not even see me anymore or hear me scream. The band is the life raft that is being thrown to me to save my life. I am getting tears of gratitude in my eyes. Love You God. Love you all out there in lap land as well.......let's see if my ticker comes through below on this post. Sara

I have never heard of meeting with him ahead of time.....but f it is before your surgery, like you have to be there and hour or two ahead, and that is when you are meeting with him, then that is routine. He wants to find out your history, and possible problems and if you have sleep apnea, etc. This is a good sign!! Hope mine meets with me ahead of time, beacuse every chance I have to make my case a more personal one in their minds, the better the care I will get, methinks. Would not wanna be a number... >smile< CONGRATS I want to hear from you when you feel like getting back on here..don't wait till you have a need; we all need to hear you made it!!! Like my weight loss ticker?? Just got it...... Sara

One thing I heard that stuck with me was to wear shoes that were easy to get in and out of..this would go for clothing as well. We are not supposed to ned over, so we had vetter get something zip up front that we can easily put on to go home. I have to bend to put on pants and I don;t think my stomach will want to have anything across it... If we wear a bandan on our heads, people will just think we're crazy, so all the better. I have seen people go home in hosptial gowns, so why not a nice long velveteen robe-tyoe thing?? at last it won;t require zipping up a waistband.any suggestions????

Are you Miss Tori?? I cracked up when I read about Bruce being inside you. Guess I could name my band. I wish I knew my Guardian Angel's name. Maybe they would not like a band being named after them, but hey, "if your right hand offends, cut it off." This is my foundation for accepting the band. :wink2: I am now taking suggestions for the name of my band... love your humor  >smile< Sara

I got THE call today...my surgery date is at 1 pm on DECEMBER 17TH. Doesn't it kinda feel like a birthday?? I donlt know how to get a profile picture up...I tried and thought I had done it right but now it doesn;t show up anywhere... December Bandsters 2009

Hi everyone...I am in my final week before I have to do the two week pre-op liquid diet. My husband is overseas so I went ahead and began the day he left: Thanksgiving. I discovered after reading through alot of these posts that sugar free cremora is actually low carb. I could not find it but SAW A liquid cremora in with the milk products. I was looking for Hood dairy beverage...well. I looked at the listing on the non-sugar free liquid cremora just to see how bad it was, and it was only about 20 calores and 2 carbs, so I got it. I got coconut creme, and I cannot tell you what a little tablespoon of it does in my liquid prpotein shake. YUM I am going to get the Irish creme one, because I know I LOVE that. With these two, I can go on a long time. I am just about ready to stay on these liquids for the full six weeks after the banding, because I need to drop 150= lbs to get down to my normal weight. I am now walking 2 miles in the gym every day, and doing Water aerobics. Other little stuff in the gym like ab crunches and upper body to help my posture a I walk, to help hold up this fat stomach. I am in my thiurd day of liquid prtoein...loving it. I got the EAS and the Adkins shakes, and also got the Boost Glucose Free. Pricy, but I figure I can use one a day to boost my Protein intake up above the 60 that my Protein Shakes afford me. The good thing about my protein (it is called ProCal, and it has 7 carbs per packet, so I don't recommend it) is that I can take three of these packets, add a cup of yogurt (whole milk plain yogurt has 15 carbs/cup and skim milk fat free yogurt has 19 carbs/cup!!! go figure) I add in the three prtoeins and the one cup of yogurt, and add it to a gallon of water. Yep. A gallon. Then I add the cremora (not too much) and it tastes really good... I drink it as I walk the track...being this much overwieght (330 lbs) I sweat alot on the indoor track... I have to sit down about every 7-10 laps depeneding on how early in the day I get over there...I wear a wet towel around my neck, (which keeps the body temperature low) and I just do it. A month ago I could not even walk 3 laps. I now am walking 32 laps every day...IN ONE MONTH!!! The good thing about exercise is that it rewards you almost immediately. Much faster than cutting food, altho your body welcomes the chance to "heal" itself when we go to liquids. I see the voereating as an illness that the body is trying to constantly rid itself of. Getting on the pre-op is like giving your body a rest from all the digestion gesticulations it has been going through for years, sometimes 24 hours a day, if we eat before we go to bed. I feel really good this thrid day of my liquids. I recommend to everyone to start walking. My knees are bad, don't give me that. I also have arthitis and am going to be 64 years old...I weight 330 lbs and am 5'8". Anyone who does not believe they can do it can write the big engine that could at sara3t3t at yahoo dot com. I will give you lots of encouragement because I am where you are and it is G-d who is pushing me and helping me. love to all of you...Hope to be banded around Dec 14th...getting my firm date in a few more days.
