I started my journey in May 2008.. Making the decision that would change my life.. actually, give my life back to me. Let me be me again..
I had lap band surgery in Mid June, after making the drastic decision to do it now and start to live healthy, happy and enjoy life... Or to continue destroying my body which was already deteriorating rapidly for a 21 year old after being hospitalized with severe glandular fever in my teens that killed my immune system and deteriorated several organs, The lack of movement after being such an energetic on the go size 10 dancer... as well as medications, caused me to gain 30kgs within a matter of 2 months. Depression followed for years after and that contributed to my weight gain also.
So.. I walked into hospital and was wheeled into surgery a size 22, I walked out of hospital a bloated size 22.. ok so that part was pretty sucky. But now 10 months later I am a happy size 12, I am loving life.. I have a little way to go yet but i know i WILL get there.. I have me back.. the me i lost for a few years..
In February of this year I found myself with a slight set back.. Gall stones! So, the fluid i'd worked up to in my lap band was removed and my surgeon took out my gall bladder.. Thank god. It's gone now and good riddance to those pains people so commonly compare to childbirth. But i'm well on my way again, working out, toning up although i'll never have a 6 pack and that's ok with me!
I am happier, healthier and more confident than i can ever remember being, I live life to the absolute fullest now.. And i'm forever grateful to my grandmother who made my surgery possible.. As a grandparent she saw changes in my life, ups and downs.. And she dug up the funds and handed me a cheque saying.. "Consider this some of your inheritance, i want you to be healthy and happy for the rest of your life so this is better used now rather than wait til i'm gone and be miserable til then".... She is an incredibly fit lady so i can tell you right now she took into consideration that she won't be going for some time yet and that it would be some time too long for me to keep living the way i was. She's given my the gift of life twice now... Once from having my mother, who then obviously had me.. and now.. I love her dearly.
Pre-Op = 113Kgs Post-Op = 63Kgs 7Kgs to go... It will happen, I am nearly there!
