    Starving!

Congratulations! You're going to be starving until you get more Protein in. And you'll be hungry even after you get a fill (This surprised me too:eek:) but it's all about learning to listen to the band and your body right? That's what I'm working on. Talk to your doctor and see if you can start the non-clear liquids- a Protein shake would probably help you out a lot.

    So happy to be overweight

mominkansas... you're an inspiration! That is exactly what I'm excitedly looking forward to. Being Morbidly Obese for more than half of my life, and officially Obese since age 11, it will be a JOY to be just Overweight. Congratulations on all your hard work!

    Realize Band

DITTO! 11cc capacity Realize Band with 3cc fill right now. Can eat everything. I'm going in for a fill week after next. If I don't get a lot more restriction before Thanksgiving... well, let's just say I need to get more restriction before Thanksgiving.

    Largest Incision issues

My port site (also at the belly button -slightly to the left) was totally unnoticable to me until I started to feel better. About 5 days after surgery, it turned BLACK, BLUE, PURPLE and GREEN:eek:- but it didn't hurt. Once the colors started to fade my port was super annoying! I felt it every time I sat up, sat down, stood up, laid down...etc. Now, I don't feel it at all.
  7. Hi Pookiemp! I don't call these the symptoms of hungry. I call these the signals that I've waited too long to eat! So does my doctor. It was about 6 days after surgery that I started feeling what you're describing. It was just so intense that I thought it was pain from the surgery. I was really worried, but I noticed that the pain subsided immediately after I'd have a Protein shake. Of course, the pain was back 45min to 1.5 hours later, and went on all day and all through the night, so I couldn't sleep! When I realized that it was hunger, I was so happy I cried! Do yourself a favor, don't wait until you get dizzy (or worse, nauseous) to eat. If you've talked to your doctor and gotten the ok to eat mushies, you may need to increase the amounts, or follow everything up with a Protein Shake.

    I am miserable

Hi Suz1! I won't spend time here telling you how idiotic I think your surgeon is for not prepping you BEFORE the surgery... wait, I just did. Well, anyway, like you, I was in a whole lotta pain. I honestly spent the first 7 days wondering if I had made the right decision. I'm now three full weeks out from surgery and I'm feeling great! The gas pain (that radiated from my abdomen to my shoulders and neck) was so bad that the liquid vicodin didn't help. Since the vicodin was adding to the constipation, I got off it after day two. I advise you to do the same. You may find, like I did that the pain you're experiencing is related to the gas. In that case, walking will DEFINITELY help. My energy picked up when I started eating the soft foods, like yogurt. If your nutritionist didn't give you written info- guidelines- you may want to call her and ask for them. That way you can go over them at your leisure and maybe not be so overwhelmed. Take it easy on yourself, your body is working to heal from what it thinks is a pretty traumatic experience. Follow ALL of your surgeon's instructions, and be sure to keep him apprised of any changes that you feel are not right. Don't worry, you made the right decision. In a few weeks, you'll feel MUCH better.

Someone tell me it was worth it

WOW! You have just described EXACTLY how I felt for 7 days after my surgery! It was awful, plus, I couldn't get any sleep because I literally had to pee every 30 minutes... round the clock. I stopped the codeine after 3 days because it made the constipation really bad... and wasn't doing a THING for the shoulder and neck pain which was worse than all the other pain. I'll say this... it does get better. This week, I really feel like my old self. I'm eating mushies/softer solids now in very small quantities. Energy is up, no pain. Constipation is still an issue, but I'm working through it. BTW- I also had a hernia repair during the Band placement. My surgeon said that it was a really common thing. But, maybe both procedures cause a bit more discomfort. Good luck to you!

    Getting in enough calories?

marfar7: Hi, I'm sharing this with you because I wish someone had shared it with me... About 2 weeks before my surgery, I bought a Protein powder mix that I really liked. Bought 6 canisters of it. Because I really liked it. It had a great flavor, mixed up easily, decent price. Truly enjoyed the stuff before surgery. After surgery I was allowed protein shakes and clear liquids only for the first week. OMG that was hard! For some reason, I was unable to tolerate even the smell of the Protein Powder. It has been REALLY hard for me to get in the daily protein requirement. Did I mention I'd bought 6 canisters? Since you're still pre-surgery, you may want to get one or two more products that you like... just for some variety. Good luck!
  11. Wow! I'm sorry you're going through that. Ask your surgeon to prescribe anti-nausea medication. Mine did it automatically and I was sure I wouldn't need it, but on Day 2 I discovered that I was wrong! If you still need the pain meds, see if you can get a scrip for LORTAB ELIXIR (or the generic) which is liquid vicodin. Might help. But it causes constipation so don't stay on it for long. Good luck!

Has anyone else been told this?

I hope every patient to whom he makes that statement walks right out of his office. Eventually his practice will dry up completely! What a jerk!

    Never Again...

Thank you so much for this thread! Truly inspiring to me because I'm on day one (of two) of Clear Liquids before my surgery- Spent the evening watching food Porn. Here are my never agains: I will never again see the inside of Lane Bryant, Avenue, Ashley Stewart, Catherines, or the Encore dept at Nordstorm. I will never again have people say to me that I'd be so much prettier if I "really tried" to lose the weight. I will never again say no to those ultra sexy heels. I will never again be a size 24. I will never again use food to make myself feel better. I will never again change clothes 4 times before going to work because the mirror shows just how big a size 24 really is. (Next time, I'll change because I can't decide which outfit is cuter!) Current weight 300 Surgery Date: 9/9/09
