  1. Hi Tracy! I would very much like to keep in touch! I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and feeling much better than week one! I am now on soft foods and it's much easier to maintain. I am often hungry and can't wait for my first fill! Best of luck to all of us - this is by no means the easy way out! Sandy

    Realize Band

Hi! I am 2 plus weeks post op with the realize band. I'm on soft foods now (much easier than liquids!) but I'm finding that I'm hungry between meals. The weight loss this week is slower than the first week (actually it has stopped!) I can't wait for the first fill! I had mine done in Buffalo, NY....how about you?
  3. Oh no!!! I'm so sorry! I don't know what is worse, the waiting or more liquids! You're going to be so skinny by the time of your surgery they might think you're in for something else! Everybody is sick right now! My daughter was very ill with H1N1 and hasn't been to school in a week! She's over the rough part, and I'm so relieved. P.S. - Don't worry about doing a bit of indulging - that was a hard blow to take - like someone postponing Christmas! I'm a total emotional eater and know where you're coming from! You'll be back on track in no time! Take care and feel better! Sandy

  4. How's it going!! You must be so nervous and excited! During your down time of rest & relaxation, sell some of your old "big" clothes on ebay and buy something new and smaller for yourself! Second week has been great and much, much easier than the first week! You'll get through just fine! Keep me posted on how you're doing! Good luck!!!!

    I'm a Foodie!

Like many of you, I am a foodie. I love most foods (exept organs - I just can't go there!) and that is where my problem started! The texture of a perfectly grilled steak, the smell of home made chocolate chip cookes, the armatic flavors of Thai food just put me in the happiest of moods when I know I am about to indulge in some type of culinary delight! When I first began reading about lap band, I thought, could it be real? Can I still enjoy food but eat only a small portion and be satisfied. Sign me up! It seemed almost too easy, until the reality sank in and I was told to do the South Beach Diet for 3 months. It's not a bad diet. It's actually the first diet I've ever stuck with - but then again, if I didn't do it, I couldn't get banded! Motivation and determination kicked in. I started prioritizing the things I ate. I said no thank you to foods I loved and craved because they weren't part of my diet. When the preop diet, surgery, and first week of liquids was over I realized something about the lap band. This is not the easy way out! I've sacrificed, felt hunger like no other, and drank some nasty, nasty stuff for the sake of my health and my success! I can control myself! I feel so liberated - like food doesn't control my every thought and movement! I'm down 30+ lbs. since beginning my journey and can't wait to see what other discoveries I'll find while losing weight and gaining confidence! Best of luck to all of us!!!!
  6. I know what you mean about the protein shakes! I'm more of a warm drink person! I just ordered a few different varieties that I can hopefully mix in with other foods so I can get my protein in. This morning I had a decaf coffee with the vanilla protein shake as a creamer. It was actually really good! I also heard u could use the chocolate as hot chocolate, but mine turned into a big lump in my cup! Purees are great!! Chicken, mashed potatoes and butternut squash, lentil soup, mmmm. Food again! Are you feeling full from our new smaller portions?

  7. Lol! OMG! In my entire life I've never given out so much info. about myself as I have since I got banded! A little TOM info. is nothing! I've told my husband my real weight, I've told him the excitement of my first post op BM, the gas you experience afterwards is no secret to anyone in your immediate vicinity, so at this point, there is never TMI!!! So Starla, we're starting our journeys at about the same weight! I was 224 when I got banded! You will definitely lose more weight this week! I'm really excited for you! I'm running out to do a bit of me shopping today, I was walking at my daughter's swim meet yesterday and realized my underwear was falling down inside my pants! Embarrassing but yippee! Have an exciting weekend!!

I've had a very, very, very bad week!

I made a decision to keep my LAP-BAND®®®® surgery a secret for the time being. I was afraid of getting my hopes up and being let down, of my elderly parents worrying, and of anyone passing judgement. I've had to deal with enough of that #$%$ already in my life! Also, I just didn't feel like explaining myself to anyone. I discussed this with my husband (supportive), my brother (a dr. and very supportive), and my other brother (my bff but married to a woman I'll refer to as SB - Superbitch). I was very adamant that this be kept confidential. No problem. Everyone's on board. So, I was banded on 9/22/09. The anticipation and excitement for this day were almost unbearable! The big day came, the LAP-BAND®®®® is placed and all is well! Friday night I'm up at 4 AM in excruciating pain and vomiting. Doc thinks possible kidney stone and tells me to meet him in the ER (45 minutes away). I gently wake up my husband, who proceeds to jump out of bed, stands there for 5 seconds and FAINTS!!! OMG - I need help and my pillar of steel is on the floor white as a ghost! I called my dr. and he said to get him some water and a cool cloth and SNAP HIM OUT OF IT!! It worked, we made it to the ER, I passed a kidney stone (great fun by the way) and made it home by 2PM. 2:05 PM My father (a worry wart with a heart condition) calls because "someone" told him I had surgery on my stomach! Hmmmm, I only told 3 people. Little brother leaked my juicy information to SB. She was hosting a girl scout sleepover for the girls & their moms at our family cottage and made my dissatisfaction with my body their topic of conversation. My stepmother was there, shocked, called my dad to have him check on me and make sure I was superduper. Hardly. I felt so hurt and betrayed. I rarely cry and I couldn't seem to stop the water works yesterday. 5:00 Had a very fulfilling conversation with brother and SB. I'm not a confrontational person and I socked it them both. I made them cry and it felt sooooo goood (does that make me evil?!) Day is almost over, husband has been cleaning garage and laundry room and comes up to the now somewhat calmer me with a pair of black jockey mens underwear in his hands. "Whose are these?" he asks me. I seriously was dumbfounded. I have no idea who belongs to the mysterious pair of mens briefs my husband holds before me! Married 20 years to this guy and this is the first conversation of this sort! The jockeys were for a pretty big guy and I suddenly didn't know how to react! Is he thinking something weird like I have a secret lover or did someone change in our laundry room or do laundry and leave them behind? Long story short, an hour later, he started laughing because he found the package of underwear with two more jockeys in it. He bought them and they were too big. Ooops! His bad! Thanks for the icing baby, I needed that!

  11. Congratulations! You've reached a great milestone (many more to come!) I chewed food yesterday!!! Liquids was the longest week of my life! Granted, the food I chewed was thick liquid (puree) but at least it wasn't another protein shake! Good luck at True Results!

  12. Hi Starla! You deadline is getting closer! I saw Dr. yesterday for my first post op meeting. Alls well and I started my pureed foods! OMG...so much easier now! I can start soft foods in 1 week (foods that are mashable with a fork!) Had pureed chicken and buttenut squash for dinner. After about 6 tiny bites, I was full the whole night! It really is amazing! I used a tiny plate and only had a total of 1/2 cup of combined food and I left half of that. It's kind of weird doing all that chewing - I never realized how fast I used to eat! Had cream of wheat for breakfast and it just feels good having something warm in my stomach instead of a cold protein shake! Have a great week with your preop diet!!!

  13. I'm exhausted! My 14 (almost 15) year old daughter needed a homecoming dress and we shopped till we dropped! I think I overdid it though and now my stitches itch! I tried on a pair of size 16 pants and they fit! Okay, so they were ready to burst at the seams but still I buttoned and zippered them up!!!! We couldn't stop laughing at the muffin top they created! My daughter Zahra is the oldest and my son Zach is 11. They are such good kids and are so supportive! Sweet dreams! Big day is coming!

  14. Lol! No freak out...I was the same way when they told me no driving for 10 days! As a stay at home mom, I am my kids (and every kid in the neighborhoods) ride to and from swim, football, soccer, band lessons, etc!! It did feel good when my husband did my job for a couple of days and was pulling his hair out! Because I stopped my meds early on, I gave it a few more days and began driving again after a week. Just make sure, if it hurts, stop doing it! Why do any damage that could prolong that pick up of your little cutie!

  15. Hi Starla!

That shake sounds fantastic! I really like them too! Tomorrow I start pureed food and can't wait! 8 lbs. in 6 days is fantastic - you are definitely doing something right! Give yourself a pat on the back for taking little one out for a walk too! Although I think just about everyone on here is a success, I think the most successful ones are the the ones who take an aggressive stance and like you, move their butts! Great job!

I had a c-section too, and I would definitely compare this pain to that. It may be a few weeks at least before you can pick up your son. ): They said 4 weeks till I could vacuum! At least put a pillow across your belly so he can sit in your lap! Will you have someone around to help out for the first week or so?

  16. Hey Diamond!

Thanks for that website! I'm still in the liquid stages aka HELL! Site has great recipes that I cannot wait to get into!!

  17. continued...I wasn't hungry in the least the first 5 days, and then it hit me in the middle of the night, I was ravenous and wanted pancakes or chinese food (?!!). Prior to that I hadn't been out of the house. I was stir crazy and feeling in a funk. I just stayed on this site all day and read motivational stories and looked at before/after pics and felt way better. The next day, I got out of the house! What a difference! I treated myself to a sweater that's a size 14 and snug but will fit soon enough! It made my day, and I wasn't hungry at all! (I took protein juice with me to snack on!). What kind of pre op diet are you on? Have you started the protein shakes? Wegmans has some that are great - I love the vanilla! Definitely keep in touch, and let me know how it's going! Any questions, bring them on!!

  18. Hey Starla!

It was great hearing from you! Im from Lewiston (just north of Niagara Falls, NY) It was a very chilly walk by the River this morning, but I did it! My dogs love my new program! I'm going to try and answer all questions so I might have to do a few posts! I'm officially making my goal 160. I'm 5'8 and that sounds like a good number! Right now, if I'm in my undies & cami and just went pee, I can see the line go below 220!!! I started at 249, lost 12 lbs., gained 6 back and got screamed at by my doctor who then threatened to not do surgery (1 week prior to my date) then lost 14 lbs. in 6 days! (Scare is a great motivator for me!!) Morning of surgery I was 228 and like I said, fully empty bladder weight is 219ish! So, total weight loss 30lbs! 10ish lbs. since last Tuesday! The pain is definitely tolerable and I stopped the hydrocodeine 3 days after surgery - I think they make it disgusting flavored so no one will get hooked - worked for me!!!

  19. Congratulations on completing your marathon!!! You've inspired me to step it up a notch and find a local marathon (that I can walk!). I got this lapband so I could participate in life instead of being a bystander and this is just what I need to do! I was just banded 9/22/09 and really want to be a success story to others as well as myself! You and your friends look fantastic!!!

  20. Hi MommyOf1! Just wanted to wish you best of luck with banding. I just got banded 9/22/09 and have the same philosophy of wanting to take control and work my butt off (seriously, it's huge!) There are alot of people who sit back and wait for the weight to drop and then they are left with a little body with saggy skin - it's my biggest fear! I joined a gym a few weeks pre-op and went 5 days a week. I can't wait until I

m healed up enough to get back into it. In the meantime, I'm following 2Flyguys advise and walking. It's freezing today, but I'm going to add another layer, grab the dogs, and hit the pavement! You are going to be a knockout when you reach goal - you must be incredibly excited!!! Good luck!

    Sandy

  21. I can't wait for yogurt! I'm still on all liquids. My dr. appointment is tomorrow and then I can start my pureed foods! So gross, but I'm excited! I checked out that website Bariatriceating.com and they have really good recipes - even one for black bean soup! Maybe that will kill that craving of yours! I did make a capaccino this morning with just a little coffee and my protein shake - it was actually really good. Even my kids wanted one! Hang in there pretty soon we'll be eating what we want (and hopefully, keeping down!!)LOL

  22. No way would I sit back and wait for the weight to drop. Too passive for me - I'm taking this second chance seriously and doing whatever it takes to feel better physically and emotionally. My hsuband and kids are jumping in too and we've thrown out all junk food, soda, and processed foods. Husband & daughter are joining my gym next month. My husband asked if we should think of a reward for when I reach goal. I think self esteem would by nice but I wouldn't say no to Costa Rica and a hot bathing suit for my soon to be hot bod! LOL!

  23. Hi 2Flyguys! I've been sitting back reading alot of advice from many on here and you seem to be the guru (at least your advice hits home with me!) I was banded 9/22 and a few weeks prior to I joined a male/female gym (no more Curves Gym- it was just a chatfest disguised as exercise!)Anyway, I loved it! I even went without feeling like I needed to shower and do hair/makeup before going in. I'm doing this just for myself and to live a healthier, stronger, more passionate life! Who knew, I love working with the weights! I realize you just had the tummy tuck and was wondering if all your efforts got rid of arm flab as well? I don't know why this bothers me so much, but I don't want to be the person who waves goodbye and realize my arm flab is still waving minutes after my hand has stopped!

    Sandy

  24. Wow! You look great! I'm 1 week post op (yippee) and had a really hard time with hunger yesterday. I wanted to give myself some mental strength and looked at some before and after pics! You completely snapped me out of my funk! I have a formal gala in 6 weeks and I hope I look half as good as you do in your picture! You are beautiful!!!! I going to borrow the below advice fromj 2Flyguys and go for a walk. I hope the hunger stays at bay for a little while longer! (I start purees on Thursday and never, ever thought I could get excited about that!)

    Sandy

  25. Hi all! I was banded last week and it's been relatively easy (except when I got an inflamed bladder infection and ended up in the ER Saturday at 4AM!) But aside from that glitch, I haven't been hungry, the pain is minimal (stopped pain meds at this time) and I've felt pretty good! That is, until early this morning when I woke up to ravenous hunger pangs! I drank my 2 oz. Protein and then 2 oz. more. No relief. All day, no matter what I drink, I'm still starving! Is this normal? Does anyone have any suggestions? I just made dinner for my physically fit and starving jock family and the smell of the garlic bread is enough to make me faint!!!!
