I'm getting alittle sick of being the lone band guy at my local support group. I just don't wanna drive 20 times as far to find people with my issues. tired of hearing about their dumps' I'm scheduled to get banded on Nov. 10th, I guess I'm lucky there's forums like these to find out issues.

My wife was banded almost 2yrs ago Oct. so when she first mentioned it I was very concerned. for one I was ignorant of what it was but at the same time I knew she hadn't been the same since she gave birth to 7 of my children! I did worry, alot but after 2 yrs she is a different person. she much more out going, she is more active with the kids and over all she is just way more happy!!!!! Honestly I didn't think she would do good after I learned of what the band would do but She was determined and exercised like crazy and lost 130lbs in a short time. I have new found respected for her. She is much more fun to be around. the only problem is while she was losing, I was gaining!! I don't know why but I find myself now going through with the steps to be banded. Hopefully we will both support eachother in living with the band!!! I didn't get to go with my wife to any of her appt's or support groups but I stayed home to watch the kids for her..... wish we had good sitters so I could of went but didn't............

I was tested this past spring and was told I had severe sleep apnea. I didn't have a clue!! I really thought I slept like a baby all night but I still woke up tired. I think they said I stopped breathing for almost 40 seconds at one point. Finding out I have this is one of the pushing factors of me going through the steps for lapband. At 35yrs old and father of 6 with heart desease in my family I have to do something before something happens to me........

I'm 6ft 2in and my goal wieght I set is 190lbs, starting at @320, I know 9yrs ago I got down to 220lbs and still had some chub on me. I'd just like to be under 200lbs one time since Junior High. I've not been banded yet. I wouldn't have any problem being 220 again as long as 20lbs of it were muscle and not flab!!! I was told I look sick at 220 from my family but when you get used to seeing someone's gerbal jaws for so long its hard to adapt to seeing ones true bone structure and facial features....

I have BCBS through my employer and I know it takes 6months of Dr. sup. diet. because my wife had the band two years ago. but beware that health plans can change at anytime for most. It has everything to do with your employer. My benefits rep's first reply when I asked about WLS was that its NOT covered!! then told me it takes 12months of Sup. Diet and I had to have several comorbidities. that wouldn't be so bad but my PCP is lame and just treats me as another piece of meat that needs to get out of his office within 5mins and pay up. I wonder if he doesnt' want to keep me Fat for Job security????

Welcome and goodluck!! -
So I just went to my pshyc. eval yesterday 9/8 and the Dr. ends it with "you know its 50% failure rate for rny and even more for lapband that you will fail within 2 yrs" Man what a buzz kill!!!! for all you bandsters 2+ yrs out whats up?? I mean I've already beaten the odds on how long my marriage would last so I hoping I have a good chance at how long I can keep my wieght off!!!!!

when my wife was banded they didn't give her a choice they had her and everyone else on the the recovery floor walking almost as soon as she woke up!! then I think the y even would wake her every couple of hours after that to do more laps. they had a nice little lap counter and everything. In all though she was back to full speed in a couple of days easy.

Over 50% failure rate?????
Big Ed replied to Big Ed's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He was stating that any wieght loss surgery is basically a vehicle(tool) to lose an extreme amount of wieght in 2 yrs or less. After that time anyone's body will adapt and if you havent changed your eating habits fully, by then you will gain the wieght back. -
Well I am a 35 yr old male married to an bandster of 2yrs for 15yrs. I went for my psyhc exam yesterday and nutri. appt. plus my third dr. supervised diet appt. I have the ball rolling towards getting the band around Jan or Feb 2010. The psych exam went well so I think he will approve. I think he liked that my wife has lost 129lbs on the band and she will be me number1 supporter. I'm 6ft 2in @320lbs. we have 6 children and stay very busy and I work 60+ hours a week. I have done alot of research on this website and several others and believe this is the tool I need to help me in losing weight. I hope to add a much needed male point of veiw to this forum...... thanks Ed
