  1. Welcome! It sounds like you have a pretty good support system with your husband and counselor. Be sure to lean on them when you need a little extra support. I lost 70 pounds with my band and don't know that I ever felt "sexy". My husband is like yours and thinks I am all the time! (We are so lucky!) Even though I didn't feel sexy I was so much more confident with myself and I think that showed through in other areas of my life. Good luck and congratulations with your decision. The 27th isn't that far away!

Welcome Marci and congratulations for choosing to do this "for you" and noone else! The time will fly til your surgery date!
  3. I'm doing great. Have no concerns about working tomorrow. We have a work day, too. Have you tried a "real" protein shake? The thick kind? I know that helped me feel a lot better as I was tired of Isopure and protein bullets by then. I'm sooo ready to crunch on something other than sf popsicles! Hope you have a good tomorrow. Don't overdo it. Remember you're not even a week out and not taking in many calories yet.

  4. I think that feeling of depleting the ocean of crab and being so full on 3 oz is why the sleeve works. If you follow the rules for 60 g of protein you kind of automatically fall in the appropriate calorie range. When I lost my 70 pounds with the band, I NEVER counted calories, only protein and water intake. TRUST the process! Every doctor and nutritionist has a plan that's a little different than the one before. Dr. Nick has had many successful patients doing what we are doing now. Just trust the process.
  5. It's not as hard to do as you think. I had to learn to not drink while eating when I had the band. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I had a harder time waiting to drink after I ate.
  6. Hey Barbara - I just wanted to check in on you. How are you feeling? Have things starting moving yet? Sunday was the day I fianally felt I might survive and not regret my decision. Are you going back to work tomorrow or are you taking a few more days? Are you following the Forest Park diet or the one from Dr. Nick? I can't wait to move to soft foods on Tuesday! What day are you coming to get your drain out?

Drop me a line when you have a chance!

  7. I had that problem too. Sandy told me to use Milk of Magnesia, not Miralax. She said the Miralax needs to be after your on solids. So last week in to 2 tsp of MOM on Friday, no help; Sat 4 tsp and still no help. Finally Sunday when I drank a REAL Protein shake things started moving. Sorry this is so late to your original message, but I've been out of pocket all day.

    Happy New Year!

2009 sounds like it was a great year for you to get things moving in a positive direction. May 2010 continue that trend for you.

Breek- Congratulations on making the decision to take control and LIVE your life! What you are doing for yourself and your daughter is so great! Jan. 6 will be here quickly!
  12. I think you would definitely need two weeks off of work. I had my sleeve on 12/22 and go back to work next week, 1/4. There is no way I could have gone back this week. I'm a HS counselor so I just used the holiday break as part of my recovery. Which didn't make for the best Christmas, but I HATE to miss work! I am a band revision as well and know that all I learned to do with the band will pay off with the sleeve. The eating guidelines are so much the same. I lost 70 lbs with the band but gained 40 back. Good luck!
  13. WOW Kermit! That's incredible! Congratulations.
  14. I don't know anyone in CT, but I used Dr. Nick Nicholson in Dallas and really liked him and his staff. I was self-pay as well.

    Stretching your sleeve

You are doing so well! Keep up the good work. Britany moved me to full liquids yesterday and told me to move to soft/mushy next week. The Forest Park plan is different from the Baylor one, she told me to follow the Baylor. The FP plan has you do 1 week of clear, then 2 weeks of full, then soft. I'm glad she told me that. How's Matt?

    Halfway there

Way to go Cajun! What a great start to the new year!

    I made it.

Glad your at your daughter's. Take your time going home - be sure to stop every 45 minutes to hour like Sandy tells you to, even if you don't think you need to. I didn't on Christmas day and was miserable when I arrived. Gas-X chewables are good, too. Hope you feel better tomorrow. (((HUGS)))
  18. I saw Barbannn in the hospital yesterday and she was doing very well. Sandy came in said the were going to release her. She said she was going to stay in Dallas a few days with her daughter and drive home either Friday or Saturday, after all the New Year's revelers were hopefully off the road!

    Stretching your sleeve

Rachel - Thanks for posting this. These are some of the same questions/fears I have! I'm only 10 days out and still on full liquids, but sometimes feel I eat more than I should be able to. Good luck to you!
  20. That's exciting Judy! Keep up the good work.

    I'm one of y'all

Congratulations Erykah! I was miserable the first few days after surgery, but by day 5 or 6 I was much better. Gas-x strips or chewables were very helpful with the gas.

    Setback

Glad you are better. Kept checking your blog all day yesterday for news. Glad St. Pat's treated you well, but I love Dr. Zapata, too!
  24. My allergies decided to act up the day before my surgery. When I was being discharged the nurse practitioner told me one of the reason I felt so bad and couldn't drink much was because the drainage was taking up room in my pouch. She told me I really needed to get it dried up and I couldn't take my allegra because it can't be crushed or chewed. She told me to take Zyrtec, it comes in liquid and chewable form. I chose the liquid form and it really isn't too bad. It really helped to dry up sinuses and drinking became a lot easier and the nausea/full feeling went away, too. I hope your feeling better soon!
