  1. I plan to go on the 10th. I think mushies and soft food are the same. Got my iron form Bariatric Advantage and it's good. Still not on calcium. Do you remember how many we're supposed to do a day? I don't and I hate to bother Sandy or Sarah. Tonight I coughed and something popped or pulled on my left side. It wasn't even a big cough but it hurts like the dickens!! If it's not better Monday I guess I'll call Bea. Keep in touch and I'll talk to you soon!

  2. Hey Barb! I'm still in the mushier stage, too. It's easy to stick with for the most part. I've had eggs a couple of times and did fine and also have had shredded chicken (think chicken taco) and have done fine with that. That's the most solid things I've had. I think I'm at the stage I need to take calcium but can't remember how many of those little chews we're supposed to do a day. One or two? I got blood work back from my endocrinologist and I'm anemic! So I called Sandy McCoy and she told me what kind of iron to take. I've ordered it and hope I can tolerate the chewable. I hated their chewable vitamins but like the Viactiv chews. Hope you had a good first week back at work. I'm doing well except that I'm exhausted by the time Thursday/Friday gets here. Went to the support group Wed. and didn't get home til 10:00. Theresa and Matt made a quick trip to Disney before she goes back to work on Monday, so she didn't make it. Have a great 3 day weekend!! Anna

    At the hospital

How exciting! Everything will go great and will be over before you know it! Congratualtions.
  4. Well, I'm disappointed you won't be there and jealous that I'm not going with you! Have a great trip and I'll catch up with you next week!! (((HUGS)))

  5. Coopersmama- What a brave step you are taking! I am so glad you are taking charge of your life and breaking the cycle of the females in your family. Good luck and remember - we are all here to support you and cheer you on!

    Life without the Scale

WOW! I wish I had your restraint. It would help not owning a scale, maybe I'll just put mine away in a closet. Congratulations on your loss and keep up the good work!
  7. Glad things went well and you are feeling better. I had my sleeve done at Forest Park as well, and I agree, they are amazing! The pain management was very good. Take it easy and don't overdo!
  8. I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm more than willing to be the one that happens to! Good luck!

    Concerned

When I was on the liquid phases I got my protein mainly from shakes, 24 g each and the protein bullets or isopure. The good part is that they count for your protein total and your liquid total!

    Time off of work

I like the Protein bullets. I usually dilute them with Water - 1/2 protein and 1/2 water. I drank them sometimes when I was banded. The hospital actually gave me a protein bullet on my meal tray after my sleeve surgery, so they consider it a clear liquid. 45 g of protein is a lot for one sitting, so I usually do half at a time. I also work at school and did my surgery during the Christmas break so I went back to work on day 14. I probably could have gone back to work 9-10 days after surgery. Good luck!

    Dr. Zapata

Dr. Zapata did my band surgery in June of 2007 and would have done my sleeve surgery but I had some issues and needed to remove the band a few weeks before the sleeve and just couldn't go to Mexico twice. Dr. Zapata is wonderful! He is so kind and patient and tells you the truth about what is going on. The hospital feels is wonderful and they give you a list of phrases in English/Spanish so you can just point and let the nurses know what you need. Judy and Janet are great, too. And then Alma there in Monterrey is fantastic. I would trust Dr. Zapata and all of his staff with any kind of surgery he does.

    Nectar samples

Go to the Food & Nutrition forum here on VST. Click on the Sub-Forum: Protein Drinks/Powders There is a thread there: Places to get liquid protein samples by Oregon Daisy. I'm pretty sure the Nectar info is there.
  13. I started drinking Advocare shakes when I had my band. They were recommended by my fill doctor. They come in 3 flavors, vanilla, mixed berry and chocolate. Chocolate is my favorite. You have to order online at www.advocare.com. When I tried these and liked them, I quit looking. They have 220 cal. and 24 g of protein.
  14. Congrats! That is fantastic!
  15. Hey Barb- Trying my best to stay warm, but man is it cold outside! Glad you're feeling better. Normal will return. I have to keep telling myself, "Anna, you did just have MAJOR surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago. You're going to be tired." I weigh on Saturdays and this week I've GAINED 2 pounds. Not what I want. I'm blaming on my period, since I have been the best I've ever been about sticking to a diet/eating plan. I am a little worried that this may be my 3 week stall - Lord, I hope not. That would be cruel. I'm hovering right above 200 and can't wait to be on the other side. Even thought you feel like you're eating a lot, I bet it's nowhere close to what you ate before. I've been measuring my food and can usually eat between 1/4 to 1/2 cup and I'm stuffed!! Hang in there and stay warm yourself!

  16. Well, Saturday is my weigh in day and I GAINED 2 pounds!!!! WTH!! I'm 19 days out of surgery, only on soft/mushy foods and have NOT cheated at all! I'm blaming it all on my period and trying not to freak out!
  17. You are doing the right thing. It seems overwhelming at times, but when you are healthier, physically and mentally, you will be glad you did it!
  18. That's always the hardest for me, too. I've read where others drink right up to their first bite. I don't know how big a difference it makes.
  19. Welcome! I am a former bandster as well. At the doctor's seminar I went to before my surgery someone asked him about how much you should chew food. If I remember correctly, he said overchewing was not good with the sleeve because it went through the stomach too fast causing you not to feel full as long. I was soooo glad to hear that! Good luck!
  20. When I went in to get my drain out, one week after surgery, the dr. told me I could take pills as long as the weren't larger than a tylenol capsule. Hope you feel better soon.
  21. Congratulations Stephanie! I was sleeved 2 weeks ago by Dr. Nick. He and his staff are fantastic! Be sure to let us know when so we can check on you!

    Really Great Moment

Barbara- Glad things went well today. Good job on the weight loss and getting the dratted drain removed! Sounds like you went to Northpark and maybe LaMadeliene? That's my favorite mall! I started mushies/soft foods yesterday and had some shredded chicken for supper. I was really worried when I at 4 bites I didn't feel full, thought there was something wrong with my sleeve, but then a few bites later I looked at Bill and said, I'm full. So I guess it's working just fine! Keep up the great job!
  23. Good luck Hope! I'm so glad you're finally getting answers.

    Soft Solids

J- Just take your time and make sure things are REALLY moist to watery in consistency. I haven't tried anything more real than Soups or runny mashed potatoes at this point. If you do run into a problem when eating, remember the retching will cause your stomach to swell again, so you might want to go back to liquids to give it a chance to go back down. Thanks Theresa for the mention! I had refried Beans for lunch today and I swear they were the best thing I've eaten in years!!! LOL Thanks for being a week ahead of me, too. It has been so easy just to follow right behind you!
