  1. So glad things went so well. Take it easy for a few days. You deserve it. Had my 6 week check up today and it was good. The PA said not to be worried about my stall and released me for all exercise/activity and food.

    Half way to Goal!!!

Congratulations Nick! That is fantastic news!
  3. Are you home or still in the hospital? Did things go ok?

  4. These posts are very encouraging to me. I've been stalled for 4 weeks now and am trying hard to stay un-discouraged! I did have an NSV - I was able to get back in some size 16 jeans that I haven't been able to wear for 6 or more months!
  5. I hope to be there next week. It all depends if I have to train teachers for testing on Wednesday after school. I think Barb will be here next week, too. I go Friday for my 6 wk check up. I'll let you know about next week when I get it figured out.

  6. I've never heard of this type of insurance. Good luck with everything!
  7. Your loss is GREAT! You should be very excited and pleased.

I'm doing ok. Still stalled in my loss, in fact I gained 1 pound. : ( I'm still trying not to stress because there is no reason for me to gain (probably water). I know what and how much I'm eating so it can't be that. I'm trying to "trust the process" but it's starting to get hard to do. I read on a forum where someone said to just relax and stop worrying about every little thing, so I had a jr breakfast burrito and small fries for supper. Maybe I just need to shake my intake up. I keep telling myself it will come cuz it has to! How can it not!

That's probably more than you wanted to hear, but I needed to vent a little. Thanks for listening!!

    Scars?

At 2.5 years out from my band, you can't even see the scars. I now havenew scars from band removal and sleeve surgery. I'm assuming they'll fade like the band ones did. It really depends on your skin and how it heals. My red headed, fair skinned friend has 5 yr old scars from her band surgery that are very obvious. I used Merderma on my band scars and will start using it on my new ones soon. I'm 48 and don't plan to EVER wear a bikini again, so I'm not too concerned about it! LOL
  9. No, like I said, the next day there was no pain. I was careful to watch for swelling or abcess, but nothing has happened and even the usual tenderness I would have after working all day is gone too. I'll mention next week when I go in for my 6 week follow up.

    The noises

My stomach made noised ALL the time when I had the band, but haven't had that problem with my sleeve. It was embarassing at times and loud as well. You were sleeved on my birthday, one week before me!
  11. My largest incision would sometimes be sore/tender in the evening, especially toward the end of the week. Last week (when I was almost 4 weeks out) I was at a wedding reception, sitting in a chair and coughed, not a big cough or a string of coughs, just one regular cough, and I felt a POP and had the most horrible pain! I could barely stand up from my chair and walk upright! In fact, we left the function early because I was in so much pain. I thought I was going to have to call my surgeon on Monday, I was sure I had really done some damage. I took 2 tylenol and put some heat on it before I went to bed. Well, I woke up the next morning and the pain was gone!!! It was a little sore if I tried to twist my torso but that was it. Then as this week progressed, I realized I was not sore on the left side one day this week! Maybe what I did popped something that needed to be looser. Who knows? I know this isn't your issue exactly, but it was interesting. It will get better. I promise. Just take it easy and remember not to lift anything heavy or twist too much.

    Tell me the truth.

Her liver cracked during surgery and she was out of work for 8 weeks recovering! I have never heard of a liver cracking? What does that mean exactly? I know the preop diet is to reduce the fat in the liver and make it more firm and less slippery so it's easier to deal with in surgery. Can you tell us more?:blushing:
  13. It can cause the issues. Something about losing weight quickly. I know someone on here can answer your question in more detail than that, but that's what I've heard.

    Docs in Dallas Area?

I used Dr. Nicholson and he was great! Very informative and spends time answering your questions. Has been voted a top Dallas doctor the last three years by his fellow doctors from the Dallas area.
  15. I had a friend (non wls person) years ago who kept putting off having her gall bladder removed. It got really bad and inflamed that she ended up having to have emergency gall bladder surgery which was an open procedure and said it was the worst surgery she ever had. She said that they couldn't do it laproscopically because it had gotten so bad. She then regretted that she didn't take care of it sooner. I've also had 2 other friends have it done laproscopically and they said it was no biggie.
  16. I have not had an endoscopy and so far have gotten nothing stuck in the sleeve. But when is was stuck in the band I had chest pain or pain between my shoulder blades. Once the pain is gone, the stuck food is gone. I don't think people usually have an endoscope procedure for stuck food, but I could be wrong.

    Tijuana,Mexico? Passport?

You will need a passport. It's not hard. Takes 6-8 weeks to process. You can google on how to do it. I don't know anything about the Tijuana doctors, sorry I'm no help. Good luck!
  18. Here's luck to you and Brenda and wishes for a speedy recovery!
  19. Krystl- I used Dr. Zapata in Monterrey, Mexico for my band surgery and loved him. You can check out his pricing, etc. at www.ready4achange.com. I used Dr. Nicholson for my band removal and sleeve surgery. I had planned to go back to Mexico but decided I needed 2 surgeries to correct what was wrong and just couldn't go to Mexico twice so I researched and chose Dr. Nick. He's great, too. I think he charges 12,200 for sleeve. I noticed you are from Grand Saline. I livein Commerce. Feel free to PM me if you need to. Good luck!
  20. I am a band to sleeve revision. I had success with the band until my pouch stretched out and I developed reflux and other problems. My surgeon said at the seminar that you should not go into the band surgery planning on it being reversible. It needs to be a lifetime commitment. I was very lucky that my band did not cause damage to my stomach. I never know how much damage the band could do until I joined this board and read other people's stories. Band may be the lowest risk but it can do a lot of damage. I wish you the best in making the decision that is right for you.
  21. We were at a wedding reception tonight and I coughed. Not a big or violent cough and I felt something pop on my left side. MAN IT HURT! Now I have to be careful how I move. Can't do anything that stretches my left side. It's right under/next to my ribs. What should I do? I took some tylenol and put some heat on it. Any suggestions? (No swelling or anything sticking out - thank goodness.)

    Ouch!

The body is such an amazing thing! After a good night's sleep, my pain is 100 times better this morning. Hard to believe after the pain I was in last night! I can move again without it hurting. Plan to take it easy today and do nothing more strenuous than cheering on the Cowboys!!
  23. I suffered headaches that first week, too. I think it was withdrawal from all the bad things we love so much - sugar and caffeine- and from such reduced calories. It did finally subside and I have not had one headache since then!

    Hypothyroidism

I have hypothyroidism and lost 70 pounds with the band. I've since gained some back and now the sleeve is going to help me get it back off. Anyway, my endo's only concern is that I not be taking too much syntnhroid and told me to watch out for symptoms like feeling jittery, that could be a sign of too much medicine.
  25. Sorry to hear that. Eating too fast is not a fun lesson to learn, but now it's done! Hope you had a good time, the group meeting was good. Talk to you soon.
