Have been overweight since around 1983 and like all others here I have tried every diet known to man! I lose a little and then over time I gain it back plus some. A few years ago a male friend of mine underwent the lapband surgery. Until then I had never heard of it. He lost almost a hundred pounds in less than a year. I was impressed and checked into the matter...but it was way over my financial head. Last may my sister (who is smaller than me) had the band done for her. It is now Sept. and she has lost 70 lbs. Now that hurts!!! I just got medicare and scott and white senior preferred medicare advantage insurance lately and guess what? They told me I am covered for the surgery...so now I am waiting for Oct. 20 to go to their seminar and get this thing started. I am scared....excited....more than ready...and all other kinds of emotions are running through my mind just now.....mostly I feel hopeful...hopeful that I may be living a better life...breathe better...walk without pain.....maybe get rid of my diabetes......and for the first time in their lives let my kids see me for who I really am...a slim, energetic mother and grandmother who is not ready to give up and die.......
